View Full Version : Is Lebron boring?

The man puts up stats that doesn't seem to be organic. I'm quoting someone from another thread. His stats seem to be force or he make's it look so easy. If he's making it look so easy than he's really underachieving. Guys like Kobe, Magic and MJ were overachievers. They played the game like superheros.

I believe an all time great is suppose to play with flash and flare. Showmanship is what gets you to an all time level. A guy like Duncan puts up great stats but he has no showmanship. It's required in the game of basketball. Basketball is entertainment.

Lebron to me, is a textbook player. He's that boring biology textbook. The all time greats were The Great Gatsby, A Tale of Two Cities, The Art of War and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Lebron could be our current era specific player.

Basketball is entertainment. You cannot put up stats and expect to be a great player. You have to "wow" the fans.

Showmanship counts. If it didn't than MJ wouldn't be considered one of the greatest of all time next to Kobe and Kareem.

You don't get extra points for entertaining play.

MJ is in the GOAT conversation because he was one of the best players and winners ever and sustained that for nearly a decade. Not cause he pulled out great dunks.

Kobe is not in the GOAT conversation (even his most passionate stans put him 4th). He is at the very best 8th (behind Russell, wilt, bird, magic, Jordan, shaq, Duncan).

You do get credit for entertainment value. The playoffs this year has been low and it's no surprise Kobe and the Lakers are not in it.

Duncan and Lebron, who are boring players, have brought down the ratings of the league.

You need to be exciting to get people to remember you.

Ratings are down because people like watching no defense. To a casual fan, the GOAT may be based on entertainment. But to an expert, it has no bearing whatsoever on it. To me, the GOAT is the person who I would take first overall in an all-time draft.

Also, I disagree that LeBron is boring. Consistent, yes.

Being a former first option means nothing. In 2004 kobe had a team with shaq, payton and Malone. That's 4 of the 20 greatest players of all time together.

Frozen1
05-24-2013, 09:25 AM
In some points i agree to you.

At least this year playoffs lebron is being very passive and boring, last game he didn't score a single point in the last 5 min of regulation, was just there trying to pass.

This playoffs all of his scores are on dunks, three pointers or a power drive to the basket. Last year he was much more exciting to watch, had some moves, it wasn't all this /drive to the basket/layup or dunk. This playoffs he even can't hit a midrange jumper.

This must be because Heat are a very good team, and he does not want to force things.

Fudge
05-24-2013, 09:27 AM
He's an all-time great, but i do find him quite boring. It's all drive and kicks, easy layups and dunks. He gets too passive at times. Not a aesthetically pleasing jumpshot, his form is a bit weird, and doesn't have a jumper that i can call automatic. However, his playmaking/passing can be beautiful at times, as well as his transition buckets. But in a halfcourt set, meh. If he wasn't such a physical specimen, at 6'9 - 260, he wouldn't have the skills to be as great as he is today. He gets the job done though.

How is LeBron boring?

Making it look easy? So? Should we blame the player?

LeBron has no finesse like MJ and Kobe, I'll give you that.. but having finesse doesn't exactly make you entertaining.

what the hell do you want? a lay up is a lay up, a dunk is a dunk. Do you want him to dance while he's doing it?

Lebron is a walking triple double machine on very high effiecency, playmaker and top defender yet he sucks and not a hero. Kobe only scores and is not even very effiecent at it and he's a superhero.

Just get it through your head, Lebron is better. He's bigger, faster, stronger, more efficient scorer, better playmaker, better rebounder, better stats on paper and more dominant than Kobe has ever been on the court.

LBJ 23
05-24-2013, 10:59 AM
How is he boring?

He has had some of the most exciting games in the past 10 years, has done all kinds of crazy dunks, acrobatic layups and shots, fancy or bullet-like fast insane passes, hot scoring streaks(16 points in like 2min), has had some games when he was hot he was hitting 3's from almost halfcourt like he's shooting regular jumpshots.

If that's boring to you then only fapping to Kobe's videos on youtube saves you

That is such a gigantic contradiction... I'm surprised it can be said in the same sentence?

Boring???

Lebron is the best blend of power and speed the game has ever had and is the most versatile player the game has ever had. When they said he wasn't clutch he lead the league in fourth quarter scoring and scored his teams last 26 points against a great perimeter defensive team in the playoffs. When they said he couldn't shoot he shot 40% from three. When they said he couldn't post up, he lead the league in points in the paint. He's also one the most efficient player's ever. Is also a great decision maker on the court. Is definitely among the greatest team players to ever play the game as well.

Look at Jordan over Ehlo vs his shots against the Jazz...It's about maturity and circumstance. I'm sure there would have been more emotion if Heat were down 1-0 and he hit a ridiculous 3 to win the game for them as opposed to an uncontested layup.

I'll admit I don't find Lebron to be that exciting. He is a phenomenal athlete but for some reason his gifts don't translate that well to basketball from an aesthetic standpoint (just my own personal opinion). Very little grace and fluidity, however he is very exciting on the fast break where his athletic gifts are best on display.

Its weird, overall I should like him but I don't. Watching Lebron is like watching a pretty girl with zero sex appeal.

In some ways he reminds me of Pierce now. Much more athletic, but sort of barrels his way to the hole or takes awkward looking shots outside. He doesn't have that grace of Jordan or the dexterous movements of Hakeem.

For me he doesn't have the most exciting aesthetics to his game that I've ever seen. Sometimes he comes off clunky, slow, and robotic. Not always very fluid and smooth.

This is why Lebron is boring.

His team needed him to shoot the ball and he caused 2 turnovers in the last two possessions. He passed it to the other team.

Shoot the freaking ball.

pretty sure this game proved LeBron isn't boring. The whole website is literally talking solely about LeBron right now.

Yes, there is some similarities there on the drive, however Pierces' midrange game in terms of fundamentals is nearly flawless.

Lebron The Hulk of perimeter players. There is no subtlety or nuance to his point of attack. He just hammers you into submission with brute force, physicality and unyielding stamina. The good thing for him is that it works 90% of the time (or the game :D )

Lebron makes Kobetards come alive. so he isn't boring. when you can make ISH crash, how can you be boring?

Sometimes? You mean on 90% of his possessions.

I watch because of Paul George. He reminds me of the most exciting player in the NBA and George wears his number too.
