Aka the Bullies....

After watching West and Haslem almost square off...the enforcer role is an extremely important role on a team..especially if u can find one who can actually play...

The ones that come off top of head are...

Oakley
Anthony Mason
Bill Laimbeer
Ben Wallace
Kendrick Perkins (celtics)
David West
Robert Parrish
Xavier McDaniel
Michael Jordan
David West
Shaq
Mahorn
Barkley

EDIT: You're including Jordan as an enforcer? Not in my book. Oakley had to protect him.

I think the "enforcer" is normally someone other than the star, because they are unexpendable and cannot risk ejection by getting involved into the confrontation or whatever

Rodman should be added, and I guess David West is so good he deserved mention twice?

Take Jordan off the list.

Evidently we have two completely different definitions of an enforcer, because MJ is the last name that comes to mind when I think of an enforcer. As a matter of fact, he is the type of player who would be protected from the other team's enforcer. Also having an occassional argument or scuffle doesn't qualify one to be an "enforcer."

Jordan's a must on any "best" list. Didn't you know, he's the consensus GOAT. Therefore it's mandatory for him to be on any list asking for the best ___________.

Kurt Rambis was the undercover thug for the Lakers... don't let the goggles fool you.

Kevin McHale for the Celtics.

Dennis Rodman was for the second 3-peat Bulls

a great team needs to have a guy that will get dirty and nasty when necessary. MWP is as close as it gets in today's game though.

Maurice Lucas was no enforcer

he got the tag when he stepped in for a teammate that Daryl Dawkins was punking during the Finals

(dudes threw punches....connected...lot of dudes squaring off and NO ejections.....blazers sixers finals)

he was a great teammate who stepped in to protect his guy a la Haslem

to me enforcer is a guy who isn't a defender but an aggressor who strikes fear and intimidation in heart of other team

Mahorn was that guy

if anybdy on ish can find the vidoe..I've seen cli p fMahorn taking on half of Chicago in early Jordan era...

I kid you not......MJ...Oakley....Doug Collins all went after him......he took them all on....

I'm guessing you weren't alive for Lucas' career. Not a slam, just a guess.

Half the league was terrified of Lucas. The only difference between he and Mahorn is skill level. Lucas could actually play the game, but that didn't detract from his intimidation factor. He was the definition of an enforcer. Nobody messed with Walton because they'd have to deal with Lucas.

he National Basketball Association handed down penalties for participants in the fight that marred the Bulls` 115-99 victory over Detroit Saturday night at the Stadium.

Detroit power forward Rick Mahorn was fined $5,000 and suspended for the Pistons` game Monday at Denver. Bulls power forward Charles Oakley was fined $2,000 and coach Doug Collins $1,500. In addition, Bulls Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant and Granville Waiters and Pistons John Salley and Vinnie Johnson were each fined $500 for leaving the bench.

The brawl in the third quarter was ignited by Mahorn grabbing Michael Jordan around the waist and throwing him to the court. Oakley immediately went after Mahorn. Their skirmish drifted into the Bulls` bench, where Collins put a headlock on Mahorn. Mahorn flung Collins into the press table and when Collins rejoined the fray, Mahorn punched him. Mahorn and Oakley were ejected from the game.

``The Board of Governors adopted a resolution in October making it clear that flagrant fouls in half-court play will not be tolerated and will be subject to the most severe penalties,`` Rod Thorn, NBA vice president of operations, said about Mahorn`s act. ``This was a blatant example of the very type of action the Board of Governors was trying to eliminate.``

He is not an enforcer at all. People need to stop with this Jordan is everything BS. What next? Jordan is a big man?

Enforcer refers to a big man who enforces the paint with rebounding, defense , hard hits. I'm sorry but a 215 pound 6'6 shooting guard is not an enforcer.

Actually Big Ben and Shaq aren't "enforcers" in the way you defined them. An enforcer is someone who has a little bit of that "nasty" in them, quick to run to help a teammate and then get up in the face of the opponent and posture and preen and intimidate.

Shaq and Ben Wallace didn't do that.

Ben Wallace just got respect from opponent naturally for being legit tough and not a fake thug. When's the last time you've seen Ben Wallace in any kind of altercation on the court OTHER than the Ron Artest example? I literally can't think of an example.

Shaq is not an enforcer either. I shouldn't have to explain why. He was physically intimidating, but didn't "enforce" in the way you described.

The Jordan one I gotta think about some more.

Difference here is that I never discounted your viewpoint OR Mahorn as an enforcer, just said that only someone lacking knowledge of that era would discount Lucas as the same.

You, on the other hand, because of the depth of your basketball knowledge, discounted the opinion of someone who actually watched the player you have no first-hand knowledge of.
