View Full Version : Spurs Will Crush Miami in the Finals

Honestly, how can they lose? They have the perfect tools to beat the Heat: two very skilled big men in Duncan and Splitter, and a PG to abuse Chalmers/Cole all series.
On top of that, you have Pop against Spo as the coaching matchup. Nothing that needs to be said there.
The Pacers have laid out the blueprint to beat this Heat team. It would be foolish to think that PopaGOAT won't capitalize on the glaring Heat weaknesses.
Timmy D and Tony P, co-Finals MVPs. Has a nice ring to it.

Nope they Don't have the Size and the Style of the Pacers. pacers #1 Defense and #1 rebounding team.. HIbbert>Splitter not even close and West =Duncan right now with his Production. Plus Duncan does not play the minutes that Hibbert or West play anymore. If Miami has Wade and or Bosh Wake up it is a wrap no matter what the Spurs do as U know Lebron will not be stopped.

We can only hope.
The main thing is obviously Lebron. What he did last night is the big X factor. He can dominate at a level we've only seen a handful of times in the last 30 plus years now.
Can't wait to see it if it happens.
Although I'm not writing the Pacers off yet.

Heat will win easily. Father time has caught up with old San Antonio. They struggled against a team with some semblance of athleticism in the 2nd round. No chance they can beat this Heat team. The Grizzlies are a joke team with no athleticism or scoring. Heat should win in 5, but series may go 6 if they relax a game or two.

Spurs have a better PG.
Spurs have a better SG or SF (depending on what you call Paul George)
Spurs have a better PF.
Spurs have a better 6th man.
Spurs have a better bench.
Spurs have an entire roster that can produce in the playoffs.
Kawhi and Danny Green are great perimeter defenders.
The team rebounds defensively as well as anyone.
They're big, with Duncan, Splitter, Diaw, Bonner, Blair.
They can shoot.
They score a lot.
They play great team defense.
They're good in transition and halfcourt.
They already beat an uptempo offense team and a grind you down team.

Calling Tiago Splitter a "very skilled" big man is silly, relatively speaking. He's made a lot of progress within the past year but certainly Miami is facing much more significant challenges with West and Hibbert right now.

Heat have to beat the Pacers first...

05-31-2013, 02:14 PM
That's what I thought going into the Finals against Detroit in 2004. Lakers looked better top to bottom, thought there was no chance they would lose...
Then Malone's injury got bad, Payton couldn't hit a shot to save his life, Shaq got outhustled by Detroit's entire front line and Kobe lost trust in everyone on the team.
Nothing is certain in sports and Miami has one thing the Spurs do not have. A transcendent talent. I don't like LeBron, but he's one of those rare athletes that when they need to, can just take over and win a game for his team. Lakers had it with Shaq and Kobe and it allowed them to win games against better teams they otherwise may have lost (i.e.: Blazers, Kings, Spurs) and earlier with Kareem and Magic. Bulls had it with Jordan. Celtics had it with Bird. Guys like that are rare. As great a team as the Spurs are, as great as Tim is and Ginobili and TP and Popovich as a coach... it all means nothing if LeBron goes off.

He's a great passer, is crafty around the hoop, and is just an overall smart player. I never said he was West or Hibbert, but that doesn't mean he isn't skilled.
Hibbert is posting games of 30/10 and 20/17 against the Heat's abysmal frontline... he averaged 12/8 this season. Don't be surprised to see Splitter with some 18+/10+ games during the series.

They both score far more when they are healthy. Even if Wade continues his struggles, LeBron's dominance is a constant, a foregone conclusion. There's more to the game than shooting. LeBron cannot be checked by any combination of Spurs players and he impacts the game far more than Curry and Thompson combined.

Because of pace.
All of the games Indiana have won have been where they have dictated the tempo of the game. They have more or less stopped Miami from playing on the break and have forced Miami to slow the game down significantly. Apart from Memphis, the WC is pretty much the up-tempo conference, particularly the Spurs. They are not as good a defensive team as Indiana and I'm pretty sure Pop attested to that.
It's all well and good giving me individual matchups, but Miami wins out the perimeter matchup because of LeBron and maybe Wade if he can get going. And, as great as Tim Duncan is, I don't think there's a player in the league at the moment that gives the Heat as much nightmares as 7'2 Hibbert. He is dominating offensively and has been able to deter LeBron and Wade from attacking the basket regularly. I don't see Duncan having quite the same impact if I'm honest (he is a better player than Hibbert without a doubt, so I could be wrong, but he's not the same athletically). Also, no one on the Spurs presents matchup problems like West.
Cole is also a very good Parker defender and has the quickness to keep up with him. I think, all in all, the Heat will be pretty happy with the matchup, as opposed to Memphis.
The only way Spurs wins this is if Pop severely outcoaches Spo, which is entirely possible, but I think Heat have got too much. My opinion of course.
oh the horror

Learn to read. Offensively the Spurs are miles ahead of Pacers. Defensively they have nothing on them, and I mean nothing. Especially how Miami plays small ball. They also won't have to deal with someone like Hibbert who is feasting on the boards this series. Duncan and Tiago aren't even 7 footers.

I'm not arguing that, the way you stated it made it seem like the Spurs were some averge defensive team that is no where close to Indy, when in reality they've been around Memphis-Chicago-Indy and the upper tier of defensive teams all season. Fair enough.
Yeah he's skilled relative to me or any non-NBA player. But relative to the guys Miami's facing now, not so much. That's just my opinion though. I think he's a level below Hibbert and West, don't see him capable of multiple 18/10 games.
It'll be interesting seeing as they don't have any real history or much game footage to fall back on like the Pacers vs Heat.
Also I believe that Miami will be more prepared for a body like Splitter after what they're going through now. I think they'll have an easier time with the Spurs just because of style. Spurs aren't going to look to bang and rough these guys up.

ESPN says they're 11th in opponents points per game and rebounding they're at 20th (Heat are dead last at 30). Pacers are #1 in both these stats.

People keep counting out the Spurs. How many experts picked Grizzlies to win in 6 games? And what happened?
People saying this Pacers team is a tougher match for the Heat than the Spurs are is ridiculous. Duncan is the greatest PF of all time. Duncan > West and Hibbert. The Spurs best players (Duncan, Ginobili, Parker) are way more experienced than the stars on the Pacers. This Pacers team is still young. David West is pretty much the only starter on the team with a lot of experience. Hibbert and Paul George still have ways to go. There's no way that the experienced leaders on the Spurs will make the same mistakes Indiana is making. Plus Poppovich will easily be the best coach in the finals. The Spurs are 4-0 while reaching the finals. You really think Ginobili and Duncan won't step up big time this series realizing this could be their last chance at a ring? I expect Duncan to look like early 2000's Duncan, Ginobili to look like 2003, 2005 and 2007 Ginobili and Parker to even play better than he has so far in this postseason. Spurs in 6.
Splitter averaging 18/10 :lol hahahahah

OPPG, isn't the best indicator of who's the best defensive team, when teams like Indy and Memphis, play at a much slower pace than San Antonio and Miami. That's why defensive rating is important because it's talking about Points given up per 100 possesions.

If you say so, I just don't see it.
San Antonio is one of the top defensive teams in the league just like Indy, but on offense they averege 13 more points per game than Indy.
Even with the oppg that you seemed to emphasize the Spurs play the 6th fastest pace in the leauge, whiles Indy plays the 25th slowest pace in the leauge yet San An only gives up 96 ppg in comparision to Indy's 90 ppg. Which is why they have a better Defensive rating

Bosh, Haslem, Birdman will all take turns on Him with alot less difficulty than covering Big Roy.Spurs will be Playing with Duncan OR Splitter not both that often cause than Diaw won't get many minutes. It's all about match ups. Duncan doesn't do most of his work in the post anymore. He's jump shooting to improve the spacing with him and Splitter on the court at the same time so they won't bother MIA as much as IND. IND and MEM (good scoring bigs) are good match ups for SAS. MIA is a bad matchup for SAS - athletic, perimeter-oriented.

LeBron James is head and shoulders above the rest of the league, the role players make big plays when it counts and, sooner or later,Wade and Bosh are gonna wake up.Furthermore the Heat are great at defending the PnR sets used by Parker.
I'm also concerned with the fact that Manu and Duncan cannot play heavy minutes at a high level, and Danny and Kawhi have never played on the NBA's biggest stage.
However,I think a well-rested Spurs team is the worst matchup for the Heat.
The Spurs never get rattled. They keep playing and executing their plan, even if they're trailing by 20 points. The Spurs are versatile and can change the way they play to exploit their opponents' weaknesses.
For instance,Duncan attacked Marc Gasol from the perimeter. If Bosh is the defender,Tim will use his low post game more often, which will create more space for the Spurs' perimeter players.
Of course,Parker has been spectacular throughout the 2013 season. He is playing the best ball of his career.
With that said, the Spurs need to find a way to survive the first 43 minutes.I think that Tim and Manu are still capable of making decisive plays down the stretch.

Last year? They should be contenders for years..

Suprised your bumping yourself as there is little to no chance of this happening. The Spurs have a slight chance to win series but cant see them crushing Heat..

Cole has done better job than chalmers on Parker but Heat will need team defense to slow him down. Also look for Lebron to guard him at end of games possibly as well.

My gut feeling tells me that the Heat are going to win this one because I just cant imagine Lebron losing right now.
However, after watching both teams during the playoffs, the Spurs appear to be the better team to me going into this thing.
If DWade and Bosh play the way they did in the ECF, then the Spurs are going to have it easy and win in 6 max. The offensive deficiencies of the Pacers allowed Miami to beat them, the Spurs on the other hand are a smart and efficient team that is likely to give Miami fits. I cant picture the Spurs struggling on offense the way the Pacers did in game 7.
I also think that if Miami fails to win both games at home then the series is likely to go 6 games minimum, with the Spurs holding a 3-2 edge going into game 6.
The X-factor of the series is DWade imo, more so then the Miami bench. I dont think Miami wins if DWade plays like sh!t.
From a gambling stand point, I like the Spurs in 6 at 11/2 odds.

After watching the Heat/Pacers series all the Spurs have to do is bang the living shit out of the post with Splitter and Duncan and then switch it up to PnR and not be absolutely retarded with the ball.
Besides why is everyone acting like the Heat are going to shut down Parker, their bigs are terrible on D and the Grizz had the best perimeter D in the NBA w/ Conley, Tony Allen, and Tayshaun Prince and Parker ate them alive.

That's what I'm saying. The Pacers exposed the Heat's weaknesses. There's just no way Pop, one of the all-time great coaches, isn't able to capitalize when the blueprint for beating this Heat team is right there in the footage.

Seriously, if the Pacers had half of the composure the Spurs do they would've closed the Heat out in 6, but they panicked and over-thought things, turned the ball over a lot and tried to play hero ball to much at times.

Thunder last year were a better team than this year's Spurs and lost in 5 to the Heat. This series may go back to Miami if the Spurs really impress at home but I don't have much faith in them to be honest.

Heat fans dont watch basketball, they watch Lebron James.
