He played passive. He didn't play aggressive enough until it was too little to late. He was passing to players that were hot in the first half and not looking for his own shot. Which is what makes him a better player.
However this is a small sample size. Remember Miami lost game 1 against OKC last season. They lost game 1 against Chicago Bulls this year. They almost lost game 1 against the Indiana Pacers. The Miami Heat usually use game 1 to "feel" there opponent out and then make there adjustments. It's happened every year in every series. The only game 1 they did win and it felt they were still doomed and playing complacent was against the Mavericks. This game 1 loss gives them more of a sense of urgency and will make the team make adjustments;
For example Shane Battier will get less playing time, Mike Miller will get more. They played complacent in the whole second half and never really scared San Antonio with more drives / lay-ups / post ups. Instead they were looking for there jump shot rather then forcing the issue (when Miami is at there best)
If San Antonio come out harder game 2 though and Miami don't respond. I know another parade will be on in San Antonio.
Heat in 6.

That pass for Bosh 3 was terrible. He was driving on Duncan at the basket and kicked it out.
I get Bosh got an open 3, but that isn't a good shot. Lebron could have finished against Duncan and cut it to 2.

Started on the bench, came in, looked shaky for a bit, but then got it together and scored 6 points and had 7 rebounds. ****ed up a bit on Parker at the end, though.

Yep. This play really irked me. He could have jammed that on Duncan. Can't believe he passed it, but I guess he was trying to cut it to 1 instead of 2.

The gameplan was obviously for Lebron to facilitate. He was trying to get everyone else going.
He can't facilitate and dominate offensively at the same time, no more than a person can sit and stand at the same time.

Ever since his first airball, you could tell he wasnt trusting his jumper.
No jumper = kick out pass every time you drive to the basket but face a zone D.

No, it was a low IQ play, Duncan had 5 fouls & most likely gets called for his 6th if Lebron doesn't pass out

That would've changed the whole game.
San Antonio go into panic mode since Miami have scored 5 or 7 straight points and try and rush a shot. It happens every single time Miami go on a run no matter what team they are playing.
LeBron did not capitalise the way he can. He did not dominate the way he can. However this is not like the Dallas Finals or the San Antonio finals that LeBron has lost before. He has been learning from his mistakes He did not have as many weapons in those series as he does now. Also bar what anyone said Spoelstra is a good coach that can make good adjustments. Watch the defence on Duncan and Parker next game. Duncan will be played much more by Bosh rather then Bosh on Splitter, and will also be fronting Duncan then playing him front on, and going for less fakes (the way you defend Duncan is making him front you and play over you rather then letting him go for his spin moves or his foot pivoting).
Miami will bounce back.
I'm expecting them to take the next 2 games.

What would no jumper have to do with driving to the basket? If his jumper is not falling of course he is going to drive to the hoop but it doesn't explain him kicking the ball out.

he was kicking the ball out because the defence was collapsing on him. The problem was Miami wasn't re-driving the ball or having anyone cutting after the defence was collapsing they were going for an automatic shot after Lebron had drawn the double. Bad move.

Would you say he was clutch tonight?
He played really well for the first three quarters, but deferred to his teammates a lot in the 4th. So no, he wasn't clutch.
His jumper is very suspect especially in the 4th... the only way he scored was by driving in for layups/getting fouled/getting rebound for an easy putback.

final minute free throws, the lay-up earlier, the pass to ray allen for the 3 to get the 3 3 point ft's and even getting a hand on Tony Parkers shot was all clutch (even though that miracle bank shot happened).
Stupid moments.
Passing to bosh, passing to wade not driving the ball not staying in front of tony Parker and going for the block instead of jumping straight up

Apparently passing and rebounding alone doesn't count for points in basketball.
You actually have to score the basketball. :confusedshrug:
Bron needs to grow a pair and take the big shots. Great player, but filling out a stat sheet doesn't make one great, it's about what you do to win your team the game.

Ok, so 1 layup, and freethrows from a suspect reach in foul, and (lol total reach but..) the pass to Ray Allen on the 3 he missed, but Ray made freethrows which makes LeBron clutch. Ok, interesting standards for clutch.

Lebron did not put his stamp on 4th qtr.. HE needs to do more more mostly scoring. I mean he ddi have 18 boards which is impressive BUT it was a hollow trip Dub tonight as he did not make the big plays when they needed them. HE also stould around at one point on 2 straight possessions if I recall when Heat were down 1 and than down 3 without even touching ball middle of the 4th.

Passive. Limp dick. Inept. What more need be said? It's kind of typical given his character by this point. I'm starting to actually believe it isn't him being shook, he might just not have an innate feel for when to takeover. That's the one thing I can safely say D. Rose has over him. He won COUNTLESS games in comebacks or in the clutch taking over for the Bulls in 2011 and 2012.

Great point. I head it so many times over the years "But he had _ amount assists!" failing to take the stats into the context of the game. I even heard it after this game.
That being said, I wonder given how Lebrons' borderline tenuous pysche at times I wonder how much the threat of the Spurs weighs on his mind? Not to overreact, but it is now 5-0 in the Finals.

It's the finals, time to put your big boy pants on Lebron and step up..
When he attacked the basket, and was active on the offensive glass, good things happened. Unfortunately he was too focused on padding his stats the rest of the qtr.. That pass to bosh:facepalm he needs to go hard at Duncan in that situation...
If he's a so called superstar, start playing like it. He can't just take credit when the rest of the team plays well. I'm not blaming the loss solely on him though, wade was a no show in the 4th and bosh who knows what the fu*ks wrong with him...

Stop being so defensive LeBron stans. This isn't an attack, and how are you not upset at the same things we are noticing?
You guys are the fans, you should be more upset about this. LeBron needs to know when it's time to stop facilitating or being passive trying to get others involved (which is great the first 3 1/2 quarters being selfless) ... if the offense is sputtering and nothing is happening even with good team ball movement.
That's when the best player puts it into higher gear and LIFTS his team to fill their immediate needs. It's the lack of feel, or sense of urgency of him not realizing he needs to assert himself more which causes people to lash out and say he's passive, shook, not clutch, etc.
All of you over defensive LeBron defenders just don't seem to grasp this concept at all. Or you do, you just want to save face and completely defend the indefensible. He needs to take over and assert himself offensively in those moments of close ball games ... in monumental games like the NBA Finals. We're not saying he needs to chuck shots like a JR Smith with no regards for IQ or the right basketball play. Just step up and lay claim to the title of best player in the game. Especially when your squad needs it.

By the way, Bosh should have made the extra pass to Miller who was wide open in the corner....
Gamechanger of Game 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhZ3Gb_2GIc
You can say it was the play that broke the camel's back. First 3 quarter was fastpace, uptempo all favoring Miami's style. But from the 8 min mark of the 4th quarter, the Spurs made it a half-court game.
Pauk posted LeBron's stats but failed to post his defensive lapses.
After Spiltter's post up....LeBron failed to boxout Leonard on two plays where Leonard got two put-back backets. He failed to box out Duncan on another play that allowed a put-back bucket by TD. Then he had a turnover to Leonard that lead to Parker's spin move and bucket where LeBron didn't try to help Cole.
So LeBron put up 6 points in the 4th quarter but he's also responsible for the Spurs getting 12 easy points on him. 14 total on him that I counted after watching the 4th quarter replay (http://www.phchannels.com/nba-finalssan-antonio-spurs-vs-miami-heat-game-1-sports/nba-finalssan-antonio-spurs-vs-miami-heat-game-1-june-7-2013-episode-replay.html#.UbHryflOQre) but I didn't count Parker's miracle buzzer-beater.

Cool analysis DMV2. :applause: Wade was responsible for one of Leonard's put-back buckets in the 4th. I remember Duncan's offesnive rebound, that one was on LeBron.
IMO Splitter's post up wasn't a 'game changer' per se. He took advantage of a mismatch but it wasn't a play that favored one team or the other in terms of momentum.
Duncan's take over in the 2nd quarter was more impressive to me. Miami was up by 9 and it looked like they were ready to blow out the game but Duncan took over in the post.

By the way, Bosh should have made the extra pass to Miller who was wide open in the corner....
I was hoping someone else would give some blame to Bosh who actually took the shot. Newsflash -- just because a player receives the ball on the perimeter does not mean that he has to shoot. Considering there were just a few seconds off the shot clock and under a minute to go, you have to figure that you can get a better shot than a 3 from a player who was 0 for 3 from 3 for the game and has been slumping coming into the game.

Yes, lets do:
9:01 - Lebron gets in the game.
8:34 - Miller misses wideopen 3PT shot (Lebron pass of double team)
8:20 - Lebron misses shot (0 of 1 in 4th)
7:28 - Bosh makes wideopen jumpshot (Lebron pass of double team)
6:42 - Bosh misses wideopen jumpshot (Lebron pass of double team)
6:06 - Lebron bad pass, turnover.
5:47 - Allen hits 1 of 2 freethrows (foul of Lebron pass)
5:08 - Wade misses layup (Lebron pass)
4:36 - Chalmers turnover (Lebron pass)
3:53 - Chalmers misses wideopen jumpshot (Lebron pass of double team)
3:12 - Bosh misses wideopen jumpshot (Lebron pass of double team)
3:10 - Lebron makes shot (1 of 2 in 4th)
2:30 - Lebron misses shot (1 of 3 in 4th)
1:51 - Lebron makes shot (2 of 4 in 4th)
1:02 - Bosh misses wideopen jumpshot (Lebron pass out of trap)
0:31 - Lebron makes 2 of 2 FTs (6 points in 4th)
0:02 - Wade misses easy layup shot (Lebron with a great pass)
STATS in 4TH:
LEBRON - 6 points @ 50%, 2 FTs, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, millions of passes to wideopen shots (only 1 went in).
ALLEN - 4 points
ANDERSEN - 4 points
BOSH - 2 points
WADE - 0 points
EVERYBODY ELSE - 0 points
THATS WHAT HAPPENED............
Basically there is blame to the coach. Once again it's all Lebron holding the ball and turning everyone else into spot up shooters. It stabilizes their game. So now, Wade isn't the slasher or D-Whistle attacker like he was, Bosh cant post up or face up defenders in the post like he did in Toronto, Ray Allen isn't running off screens for open looks like he did in his whole career. Basically it's Lebron ball. Coach didn't get everyone's game involved. He didn't use everyone's strengths. Bosh shooting 3's??? Kidding me.

2 crucial back to back turnovers from Lebron to give the Spurs their first lead since the 1st quarter.
