Kobe crushing PRIME Duncan, PRIME Gino, Parker, BRUCE BOWEN in his ass, over and over in the playoffs.

Without Shaq:
Crushes them with Farmar, Radmanovich, Sasha, Turiaf! HAHA in 5 games. Drops 39 points in Bowen's eye.

There really are too many games to post. During 3-peat, the WCF was the real finals. During Kobe's 2nd run, he just obliterated them.

Yeah I know LeBron is the best in the world, but that is not the way to beat the Spurs. You can't "out-team" the Spurs. You just have to go HAM on them over and over, as evidenced by Kobe. LeBron needs to do this, especially since Bowen is not there anymore.

Kobe's game is pretty much built to beat the Spurs because they love to give up the mid-range shot, which plays right in Kobe's hands. You go back and watch those series in 01/02/04/08 and you'll see him draining mid-range shot after mid-range shot. I'm not sure if LBJ can do the same. But he'll find a way to beat them in other ways...

1-4 > 5-7.

4 MVPs plus 1 ring > 5 rings. We all know the Playoffs and Finals are just a formality. What really matters is dat regualr season dominance :pimp:

Whether he wins this year or loses to San Antonio, it doesn't matter. At least he made the Finals unlike Jordan who lost in the first round. Two more MVPs and Lebron is ahead of Jordan and the new GOAT. Deal with it. Greatest non-PG playmaker of all time. Larry Bird has nothing on Lebron. Only the genius of Lebron would have thought to pass it out to Bosh for 3. If that went in, it totally would have been a smart play :coleman:

Eh, that was a tired, banged up Spurs team coming off a grueling seven game series against the Hornets where they had to sleep on their plane before Game 1. Never mind Ginobili was on one leg from a severe ankle injury but gutted it out and played through it anyway. He clearly wasn't himself though.

That '08 WCF series against the defending champion Spurs was incredible. Kobe put up 29/6/4 53%fg 33%3P 91%FT. That's excellent efficiency against a VERY good defensive team and from what I recall, majority of the games came down to the wire and Kobe came up big every time. I also don't remember his cast doing a whole lot in that series.

During 3-peat, the WCF was the real finals.

I'd agree against the Blazers and Kings, but the 2001 Spurs series I wouldn't say so. The Spurs got swept by 22 ppg on average. The Sixers challenged us more than San Antonio did. Losing Game 1 and home-court advantage was pretty significant, and then Philly was close to taking a 2-1 lead in Game 3, but Horry hit a huge shot, and I believe Fisher did as well. It was unlikely for the Sixers to beat the Lakers, but they were giving themselves a chance unlike the other teams they faced in '01. But Kobe was the MVP of the Spurs series in 2001 and 2002 vs the Spurs as well, but that was the semi-finals, western conference finals series.

This thread was not to put Lebron down! He needs to beat these guys to cement his legacy, I believe he can do it but someone needs to tell him to watch these tapes!

LeBron and Wade need to go apesh*t on these guys, straight up Kobe and Shaq style. Just bomb on them, take 25 shots each and get to the bucket, it's the only way you can beat this creepy weirdo team that they call the Spurs. Popovich is too good, they execute too well for this kind of basketball. LeBron and Wade, watch Kobe+Shaq!!!! Watch Kobe+Pau!!! Watch how Durant+Westbrook beat them to go to the finals last year!

You could thank Jim Buss for that. Kobe and Phil is 3-1 vs Popovich and Duncan in the playoffs. If Phil was the coach Kobe would never get injured because Phil wouldn't run him into the ground like pringles. Phil and Kobe would have destroyed the Spurs in the playoffs and the Heat in the finals.

This idea that Kobe OWNS the Spurs in the playoffs is the most overblown 'fact' on ISH. And before you start posting stats, Pop usually takes the we'll let the star get his and shut everyone else down approach. The W-L record vs. the Lakers is hard to argue with, so I'm not saying he was a non-factor or anything, but this rhet(ard)oric is typical kobestan, circle jerk thinking

Yeah Kobe and the Lakers have definitely taken their lumps from the Spurs as well, it's bound to happen when you face the Spurs, Spurs+Lakers were the two best teams that decade, Kobe+Shaq+Duncan were the best players of the decade, and Pop+Phil were the best coaches. Sh*t, Spurs are STILL killing it, they easily could have 2 finals appearances and two rings back to back right now if some things went their way.

No haters only want to give him the blame. Shaq apparently "gifted" Kobe those rings. When Kobe scored 40 points it was actually Shaq scoring those points.(Shaq clogging driving lanes didn't make Kobe's job easier. It made it harder. Kobe made Shaq's job easier by giving him great passes) The "elite" Pau Gasol carried Kobe in 2008.

Injury is part of the game. If we use that as an excuse than we can create thousand hypotheticals about which team would have won this and that if a certain player is healthy. Case in point, Rick Fox was essential to our team and he did not even play in the playoffs in 03. Kings have a great shot that year too and Webber went down.

But you were the one that came to the thread claiming otherwise with only your word?

is it really me or u the one mad?

You see Deuce likes to pander with idiots - I get bored after a while. The trolling has to be good to keep me interested....yours is not - denial gets old.

Yea I usually don't come and visit the ISH basement. Theres no reasoning with you kids anyways, I don't know why I took the bait.

I'll leave it at this - Kobe has not owned the spurs 'since birth'. He's had his moments, I respect the man (despite his army of 'tards on ISH), but to portray this as some one-sided, decade of dominance is inaccurate and not fair to the great Lakers-Spurs rivalry.

You don't need to give us shit lol. We have taken it all countless times without regard for mercy. F'ck the Spurs, we own them period. Record speaks for itself. Kobe owns them, Lakers as a whole own them...that's all that needs to be said - anything to the contrary is revisionist spin.

Being 4-3 against a team over the years is not what I would call "owning" them.

That was the most fun I had during my time as a fan of the NBA. The early-mid 2000's Lakers vs. Spurs rivalry was phenomenal.

Any basketball fan should at least admit that Kobe taking it into the lane and dunking it on Duncan and/or Robinson multiple times was amazing.

Kobe alway performed better in the WCF against the Spurs than he did in the NBA Finals. Which always struck me as strange, but whatever.

This is why I love Kobe. The way he plays the game is just... beautiful

:facepalm not in the least. He puts up more basketball abortions than any other superstar

we already know this. Kobe is a much better player than Lebron when it actually counts. Lebron is a great regular season stad padder. Kobe is a proven winner.

Do you remember 6/24?

Or are you aware that kobe has one of the worst stats in the playoffs for a superstar?

So, what's your point? Injuries are apart of the game. Two of the Lakers key players, Bynum and Ariza were also injured in '08, and Gasol reverted to Gasoft against Duncan.

I responded to a post that said that Kobe beat a better version of this 2013 team in 2008 .. Manu getting owned by Sasha and Fabricio at your 4 spot is no way better than the current Spurs.. Their bench was old and couldn't play like this current bunch... Duncan is playing better this year than he did in 08 as well... Horry, finley , barry, jacque vuaghn, and curt Thomas were coming off the bench...That was a slow and old arse bench... :facepalm

If you want to write that Kobe's game is better suited to beat this Spur team than I would agree..

Yeah, Kobe is an incredible playoff performer in general, although not as good in the Finals, but if you break down his Finals, he hasn't been bad either.

2000- He did have a sub-par series in general, though a lot of that can be attributed to the injury in Game 2. He twisted his ankle early in the 1st quarter and left the game. He also didn't play in game 3, but returned the next game disregarding the team doctors orders. He single handedly carried the team when Shaq fouled out in the 4th quarter, he hit 4 huge free throws and lit the Pacers up in overtime. So considering he came up with a legendary clutch performance in game 4 and also put up 26/10/4/2/1 with only 1 turn over playing excellent defense in the clinching game, it's not a big deal. His defense on Mark Jackson was excellent throughout the series, reminiscent of Pippen's defense on Jackson in the 1998 conference finals. Also, it shouldn't be forgotten how big Kobe came through in the clutch in the other playoff rounds either, particularly Game 7 vs Portland, and his production prior to the Finals was right there with his regular season.

Here's a Sports Illustrated segment after Game 1:

Kobe Bryant's ball pressure on Pacers point guard Mark Jackson was tremendous. It didn't cause turnovers, but it kept Indiana from getting into its half court offense quickly, and thus disrupted the timing. Kobe also did a good job chasing Miller when assigned to him.

2001- He struggled in the Game 1 loss, but had a solid all around series, particularly after game 1 (27/9/6 44 FG% through the 4 game sweep), and the Lakers won in 5 with a backdoor sweep. Definitely not a bad series, particularly against a defensive powerhouse like Larry Brown's 2001 Sixers. He contributed on both ends of the court, and had a few triple double type games, iirc. 31/8/6/2/2 48 FG% in Game 2 and also, his Game 3 though not very efficient overall, he had a memorable streak, I think in the 3rd quarter, when he got hot and sank like 6 or 7 baskets without a miss, most from about 18 feet, making the traditionally tough Philly fans go "ooh". Not to mention the Sixers had strong, stifling perimeter defenders like Aaron McKie, Eric Snow and Raja Bell to guard him and Defensive Player of the Year Mutombo manning the paint.

2002- Excellent series for Kobe, aside from Kareem's series in 1980, it may have been the best by a player who didn't win Finals MVP, if not, it's certainly in the discussion. And of course the Lakers swept the series. The Nets were also an excellent defensive team (Ranked #1). He sank the game clinching basket in Game 3 and put up 35/11/2/4 61 FG% to give the Lakers a commanding 3-0 series lead.

2004- Yeah, horrendous series, but if you play enough of them, it's bound to happen. Also, he was facing perhaps the greatest defensive team in NBA history.

2008- Not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I never held this series against Bryant. First of all, where was his help? There was no Laker who played well enough to prevent a legendary Celtic defense from swarming him. Gasol reverted to Gasoft on both ends of the floor against KG in that series making Kobe's poor shooting series perfectly understandable. Look at what LeBron did vs that Celtic defense, he shot under 36% and averaged over 5 turnovers. The Celtics loaded up on Kobe because he wasn't getting enough help. So yes, he shot the ball poorly, but with one of the greatest defensive teams of all time focusing almost entirely on one player, it's not a big deal in terms of his legacy. Boston also had a much more talented team with the Lakers missing Bynum and Ariza.

2009- Huge Game 1 to get the series off on the right track (40/8/8/2/2 47 FG%), solid series and a 5 game victory. He faced yet another elite defensive team as well (Ranked #1).

2010- Wasn't exactly a legendary series, but he was still easily the best player overall in the series and he had some big games, in fact people in the media were talking about Kobe getting Finals MVP even if the Lakers lost through 6 games. And once again, he was facing an excellent defensive team.

So he's 5 out of 7 in the Finals, has only had 1 series I'd call poor and 1 series I'd call sub-par, and in one of them, he still made a big contribution in a critical game and they won the series, plus he was injured.

people are such prisoners of the moment. Duncan was basically irrelevant for half a decade and now all the sudden he's in contention for player of this era

Kobe took Duncan's soul so many times in their prime anyone who's actually watched the games back in the day knows this ain't even an argument.

I remember during the tipoffs of the old lakers spurs game, duncan dared not even look at kobe in the eye

If Duncan played with the talent that Kobe has played with Duncan would have 7-8 titles..If Manu doesn't foul Dirk that one season then they win that TITLE as well.. Imagine if Parker and Manu weren't injured so much... Duncan while not a fav of mine just deserves credit..

I'm starting to miss and appreciate you Kobe stans more.

At least you guys were mildly entertaining and amusing.

I still think Bron is a better overall player, but he doesn't come close to Kobe's scoring abilities, he's simply the best of his generation hands down.

Duncan is becoming one of the most overrated players ever, dude's been a role player on his team for the past couple of years, yet, he's the best of his era over Kobe and Shaq? :oldlol:

Ne1,

Do not overrate the 2009 Magic defense. They weren't the best defense in the league. Boston was before KG went down with injury.

And Kobe was facing an average at best ROOKIE defender at his position in Courtney Lee for the majority of the series. He was also guarded by Pietrus and Reddick.

Kobe had an outstanding game 1, and I thought it was going to be indicative of a very good to great series to come and he severely disappointed. Great close out game on the road though in game 5, made some incredible shots to close out.

Game 1 Kobe stat-padded like a MF to get his first and only 40 point Finals game of his career.

There was nothing clutch about Game 5 in that series. The Lakers had that game well under control throughout the 2nd half. You must be talking about Game 4 which is the game where Kobe was choking like hell down the stretch and couldn't hit a damn thing but was baile d out by Ariza and Derek Fisher hitting clutch threes to force OT (where Fisher hit another 3 point dagger) to save the Lakers from a 2-2 series.
