No, the 4th peat was killed by the Spurs. Kobe was injured too - somewhat I think. But no matter - the Spurs were better. Lakers were just tired and didn't care.

The real reason the Lakers lost against the Pistons was no outside shooting from any of the Lakers role players. Fisher got owned by Billups, Foxx, not much to say either......Payton, lol, Malone, lol......

Kobe had the Rape thing - hard to play when you don't know if you could land in a jail the next day........+ the Pistons were the best perimeter defensive team in the league in my eyes + were great overall defensively. Pistons got lucky and came together at the right time and played grind it out games all series lol.

Someone should post Hamilton's stats in the series - Kobe's man.

Kobe in 2004 = injured, outta shape from losing weight cause was so stressed out of the "rape" case, going up against a great defensive team and guarding and chasing Richard Hamilton around? Bad combination.

I wonder what Lebron's excuses will be in 9 years for his shitty performance in this years finals...

First kobe played great vs the Spurs in the WCF
SECOND KOBE has never been outta shape
third the rape thing is the only thing that I would say is legit and that was of his making..

I always felt the biggest problem that series was that the Pistons were for the most part, able to use single coverage on Shaq. He wasn't the same guy from 3 years prior. That allowed Detroit to pack the paint on Kobe and stay close to perimeter shooters

It's a damn shame people only seem to remember that game 7 for Kobe and forget that through 6 games he was putting up 30/7/5/2/56% TS and was the best player in the series by thousands of miles. In fact, the common consensus before game 7 was that he should be Finals MVP win or lose.

In Game 5 he had 40 pts including a stretch of 25 in a row... on the road!

That year he was. Only one time. Kobe shot a career low 43% that year being out of shape. Dude was 220 then went down to 205 in 2004. And remember, he couldn't lift weights cause he just had shoulder and knee surgery. But gained all that weight back the next year.

I love that Kobe stans always have to use hyperbolic statements like "easily", "by a lot", "it's not even close", and now "thousands of miles" instead of just giving him credit.

Kobe was the best player in the series, and rightfully won Finals MVP. But Pau Gasol was good enough in the series to make the "by thousands of miles" comment wrong.

I agree, no need for the "by thousands of miles" part, because Gasol played superb in L.A. and they wouldn't have won without him (although when they played in Boston, he was clearly outplayed by KG) But Kobe was the best player in that series on either team (people in the media where even talking about him winning Finals MVP had the Lakers lost in 6 ala Jerry West wining the '69 FMVP in a losing effort), and I disagree with the notion of some people who say Gasol was the MVP of the series because of Kobe's FG% in Game 7. Kobe actually played phenomenal in Game 5, and if the rest of the Lakers team showed up that game, they wouldn't have even needed a Game 7.

Yeah, I just hate it when Kobe fans go to the extreme with hyperbolic statements. Most of them do the same thing if you try to say peak Dwyane Wade was as good as peak Kobe. I mean even if they don't believe it, that's fine, but some of them act like it's absurd to say such a thing. No doubt, I hate it too when people act like their opinions are undeniable facts, and It's not like saying peak Wade was as good as peak Kobe is outlandish either. Kobe fans shouldn't take it as a slight because it's not an insult because 2009 Wade was unbelievably good, I actually thought he was never going to be the same after missing most of the previous season.
