View Full Version : The Paul George Hate Is Strong In This One...
Ok ish...let it out...I've been reading it in posts since the playoffs started, Paul George is overrated, he's garbage, he'll never be this, he'll never be that. Amazing how a 23 year old player who's made the strides he has in 2 years, who plays both ends of the floor, plays hard, is a good teammate, is humble and doesn't talk trash, can be hated by so many. So spill the beans, do you not like his game, you're mad your team didnt draft him? Or is this a case of "hate on any young player who starts to get recognized nationally as a good player" syndrome. This time next year, Kawhi Leonard will be the next victim with the way he's improving. New members with join dates of June 2013, take notes.
And for the record, no I do not think he is a superstar. There are only 2 in the league, Lebron and Durant. No, I do not think he is currently a top 10 player, maybe top 15-20. Next year may be different, we'll see. And no, I am not convinced he will become a superstar.

I am a Paul George fan. I too have noticed the amount of people who have a negative view of Paul. I don't know why they feel that way. Like you said he has grown a lot in just 2 years and I think he could be at least a top ten player In the next couple years.
Their are very few players that I would trade him for.

There is very little Paul George hate my man. People who don't like him probably don't like that he struggles to create space for his shot.

It doesn't seem that way to me. I've been reading it here and there in many posts and some people have even made entire threads about him being overrated.
He does struggle to create space for his shots, he needs to work on his ball handling. His pullup jumper from the left side is money, not so much from other areas. What prompted me to make this thread as that somebody honestly just said they thought he was garbage in that "what have we learned from the 2013 playoffs" thread. But thats not the first time I've seen a comment like that.

I probably notice it more since I'm a Pacer fan..trust me, he has been getting hated on by more than a few people on this forum at least since after the all-star break..and mostly in the playoffs. If you weren't participating in the game threads and such, you may have missed some. Admittedly a lot of it was in game threads, but it was different people, not just one troll hating on him. Maybe they don't feel he deserved to be an all-star. I won't argue with them on that. His numbers weren't other worldly but I assume he was rewarded for his defense also.

I didn't think he had a great year but I think he made major strides in the post season that should carry over to next season & he seems like a very marketable player for the league because he seems very likable. I think he has a huge future awaiting.

That person was an idiot. Paul George got stuck in a touch matchup with Lebron in the post - he could have done a better job there - but other than that there was alot to be pleasantly suprised about.
He can shoot it well and he can get to the rim - everything in between is lacking but that's the most difficult part and he will learn.

The hate feels strong to you because you've been a fan of him since he was a rookie I imagine. I agree with you though. I'm a Pacer fan and yeah people on here say he's overrated because everybody's just now noticing him. Some idiots have crowned him as already being an elite superstar, but he's really not yet. He's still showing the potential that we saw last season and his rookie season.

Well, thats your opinion but does it look like I have a million posts on this board? So obviously, I have better things to do then to look for fights on an internet message board. I don't have time to go back through 50 pages of posts but if I did, I would. And its easy to miss posts on this board. I'm pretty sure you haven't noticed, because you're not looking for Pacers posts. I'm a Pacer fan, so I've noticed every single time I've seen somebody take a shot at him in a thread.

I honestly haven't though, I was and still am super critical as I think I have proven all year. Many times I've said he turns it over too much, doesn't take it strong to the hoop enough, and he needs to improve his ball handling and passing..I've been critical of him all year. I did not become a fan of his until probably later in the year. I still wanted Danny Granger to come back and start at SF.

fwiw i think he was getting a little overrated, i feel like i heard 'paul george is blossoming into a superstar' a dozen times during that heat series, and i think that is very premature. does this make me a 'hater'?

Oh, and there's like 3 other people in this very thread saying they have seen people calling him overrated, etc. so its not just me. All I did was ask why. I didn't come on here and just throw shots and start randomly complaining about anything. I even gave reasons as to why they may be justified. I'm just asking why.

Ohhhh ok. Well see I've been a fan since he was a rookie. Some people saw him do things that I saw all season. When they critique him, it's always too much because they are comparing him to seasoned vets. He's not polished at all. He's barely learning how to play if you will.

Giving legit reasons does not make you a hater...It just makes you a critic, just like me. I'm harder on him than most. People who just say "that dudes garbage, that dudes overrated", with no reasoning, I call them haters. Just like all the Lebron and Kobe haters on this site with no valid reasons to criticize those dudes as much as they do.

Ehhh you always have idiots though. If somebody says PG is garbage, you have to end it right there. You're bringing yourself down even debating with them. If they had said he's not a superstar or something logical then of course go right ahead and engage in that convo.
There was an extra amount of criticism though. It just sticks out more to you and I because we're fans of his/Pacers. Remeber, ISH is kneejerk reaction central bro. When he did good he was better than Lebron. When he struggled he's garbage. You gotta know which posters to ignore.

Yeah the shooting touch I noticed it last season. I didn't expect him to come in a be aggressive right off the back though. For his first two seasons it was basically Granger's team. This season was his first season as the #1 option once Roy couldn't get going. Third year player on a team with veteran leadership in a new role? You can't expect him to step on everybody else's toes like that. There's quality talent on the roster. Gotta make the most of it.

You're right bro. I didn't engage the guy in the other thread, I just happened to see his post and I saw another post of somebody saying he wasn't even better than Luol Deng the other day. Those latest 2 along with what I was reading during the playoffs, especially against NY, that prompted me to make this thread.

Saying a guy is overrated does not mean you hate said guy. There are tons of guys I genuinely enjoy watching play - but they get overrated. That's not their fault - but it still deserves to be brought up.
Thought George was overrated during the regular season - he lacked consistency with his shot etc. But during the playoffs I had little to criticize.

I don't disagree. I don't have a problem with people calling him overrated. I'm simply asking them to back up their opinions with reasoning..Not just hopping into threads saying so and so is overrated and thats it, its annoying when its done to any player, not just PG. Saying he's overrated, etc are just criticisms so with those, I'm just asking why. When I refer to hating, I'm talking about, "he's garbage", "he's not that good", etc..these are comments I have seen. Those types of comments are just hating to me. Because they are so obviously far from the truth, how could it not be hating? Maybe there's another word for it that I just can't think of right now.:confusedshrug: I guess it could just be ish over exaggerations which I should know better than to fall for that. I think people were saying he's overrated as a defender because he got taken in the post by Leborn despite having help and had some lapses. There was talk and still is talk of him being the best perimiter defender in the league - DPOY hype and all that. Not something I think he lived up to.
But it was a difficult thing too - he's not accustomed to being posted and the lapses were mainly gambles for steals. Getting beat up in the post ain't nothing surprising, I remember Kobe getting the same treatment from Bonzi Wells and these guys and he was a top 3 perimeter defender in a league with much better defenders than there are currently.
Hopefully he continues to improve on that end - they way he practices there's no doubt the offense will come but defense is not about repitition - it's about intelligence and effort and he can do with a bit of the former.

Yeah, he does need to gain weight and get stronger and I felt all Miami had to do was keep posting up Lebron. I mean, the Pacers adjusted but Miami still should have went to it more. I too remember Bonzi and Steve Smith posting up Kobe pretty easily.

I like PG. And I've been a critic of him because I feel (and many others I assure you) as if he was prematurely crowned as the new "it" guy in the league.
It started from the Heat series last year and skyrocketed to new heights the first quarter of this year.
He's not a superstar yet, him being a top 10 player is certainly debatable. Just because I think he was getting hype out the ass doesn't mean I'm a hater.
Although I respect and envy the defensive capability and mindset of the Pacers, I admittedly do hate them nonetheless (especially Hibbert). I am a Knicks fan after all. BUT...I've got no beef w/ PG specifically.
I've said before he's a very good player, he certainly does have superstar potential and he would be a valuable piece to any team.
But he's not even close to that LeBron, KD level yet and you may call me biased but I don't regard him as better than Melo either.

This. Trolling is the nice term for it. In reality they have zero insight on the game, and "intentionally" being stupid is a good cover.

Lebron has pretty much destroyed him, 2 playoffs in a row though. I think he guarded Wade in 2012, who save for Game 3 pretty much destroyed him as well.
I think the Pacers work better as a team, as opposed to PG being that guy. No doubt he should take all the clutch shots though.

I'm not denying any of that. Lebron is the best player in the world, there's no shame in losing to his team. But for people to act like PG did nothing is just trolling. He did his thing in more than a few games and in game 7, the entire team got shut down by a better Miami Heat team. After he dunked on Birdman which is my avy, everybody was running around kissing his ass. Thats the people's fault for putting players on pedalstals as soon as they play well or putting them at the bottom when they have a bad game. Then folks come on here and argue back and forth about the sh*t like the player themselves were on the forum arguing with them, lol...Who does that?
Also destroyed is an exaggeration because if that were the case, the series would not have went to 6 and 7 games respectively and different bounce of the ball in any one of those games could have been the difference.

Its not always black or white sometimes there's gray. Just because PG isn't a superstar doesn't mean he's a scrub or vice-versa. Why can't players just be good? Its either "great" or "bad' w/ most ppl and that's the problem.
As for the Pacers hate, well I've always hated you guys and even more so now because my Knicks match up terribly against Indy.
And as you've said yourself, up & coming teams always garner legions of haters from the teams whose title chances are affected by the new team.
Not really an ISH problem as it is an internet problem. At least the hate for your team is because your team is good. My team is hated or clowned on all the time whether we suck or not :lol
Role players do though, would you agree?
Kyrie Irving is shooting 43% for the season, Derozan is shooting 43%, Westbrook is shooting 42%, Lillard is shooting 42%, John Wall shoots 42%, Klay Thompson shoots 41%, Kemba Walker shoots 41%, Ty Lawson shoots 42%, Evan Turner 42%, Luol Deng 43%. So according to this logic, all of these players are role players....Welcome to ish...

Can't lie and say I don't take shots at the Knicks when I get the chance but as fan in this rivarly, you understand:D I don't hate the Knicks like I used to though when Reggie was playing. Its not really the same anymore. Nowadays I think the fans just keep the rivalry going as far as these 2 teams go. I agree with your post though. Fans hype these players up just so they can tear them down, like they're depressed fans or something. I don't understand that.

I see the hate. It's usually from Freeman anymore though.

Kyrie just hates Indiana. That's no problem.
The Knicks fans are salty and Heat fans are Heat fans.
