So Lebron just won his 2nd straight championships and finals MVP. Fair or not, championships dictates how a player is ranked in the NBA. Without further ado, here is the new NBA GOAT List:

This list is set in stone:

1. Michael Jordan
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
3. Bill Russell
4. Wilt Chamberlain
5. Magic Johnson
6. LeBron James
7. Larry Bird

Below this are arguable between Duncan/Hakeem/Shaq/Moses/Kobe.

10b. Kobe

Sorry, but the truth is Lebron is still fighting for that number 10 spot with Hakeem. Their accomplishments are neck to neck. Worry about Hakeem before trying to climb the ladder.

Dont forget, without that Ray allen three, lebron would be top 20 right now

I like this list. I would put Duncan at 8, Shaq at 9, and Hakeem at 10.

1. Michael Jordan
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
3. Bill Russell
4. Wilt Chamberlain
5. Magic Johnson
6. LeBron James
7. Larry Bird
8. Tim Duncan
9. Shaquille O'Neal (4 rings, 3 Finals MVP's, 1 reg season MVP)
10. Hakeem Olajuwon (2 rings, 2 finals MVP's, 1 reg season MVP)

LeBron has now had 2 straight seasons with Reg Season MVP + Championship + Finals MVP in the same year. Jordan did it. Duncan did it. Magic did it. Shaq did it. Every player did it, except ONE.

The only one who never did it? Kobe Bryant. Never won a reg season MVP + Finals MVP in same season.

I could be wrong, but looking @ Basketball reference just barely, I saw that Kobe had 2 points the entire game 2 of the 2000 NBA finals. He did only play 9 minutes though.

It was always going to be like that. LeBron winning the championship means ISH doesn't have to spend the offseason being trolled by Kobe fans... unfortunately, it also means LeBron fans will be all over the place trying to push their agenda.

LeBron is definitely top 10 now, and critically appears to be moving up the list rather than down, but let's not get ahead of ourselves shall we?

I'm not the one who put him ahead of the likes of Duncan, Bird and Shaq.

But I really don't see how putting him ahead of Hakeem would be blasphemy now. Hakeem was always the top 10 player who was going to fall out of it, whether to James or someone else. He was incredibly dominant for two seasons, but he wasn't considered the best player in the league as consistently as LeBron.

At worst:

1: MJ
2: Russell
3: Kareem
4: Magic
5: Wilt
6-7: Duncan/Shaq
8: Bird
9: LeBron
10: Hakeem
11: Kobe

I might place LeBron above Bird when I think about it.

2. Russell
3. Kareem
4. LeBron
5. Wilt
6. Magic
7. Shaq
8. Duncan
9. Bird
10. Hakeem
11. Kobe

Honestly LeBron is better than the #2 and #3 above him, but if we’re considering the totality of career accomplishments also, then I guess you can rank him as low as #4 or #5. Kobe was officially kicked out of the top 10 as of yesterday. Maybe you can argue he sneaks into #10 in place of Hakeem, but he’s no higher than that for sure. He’s either #10 or #11.

I've never understood "official GOAT lists." For me, I just have a top few guys who I believe are interchangeable based on one's criteria.

Wilt
Jordan
Kareem
Russell
Magic

I don't like putting anyone on my "inter-changeables" until they have made it to the Hall of Fame (incase of any late career comebacks ala Jordan and Cousy.)

For me Wilt takes number one but I recognize the lack of reliability and validity of any GOAT ranking.

I have to discount Lebron for the era he plays in.

Who the hell was his competition for MVP this year? Tony Parker?

Have you guys seen how weak the conference is that he plays in? No way in hell can you rank him above Hakeem or Shaq.

no...lol. don't think history will forget the 2011 finals that he single handedly lost for his team. he's playing in the eastern conference where his opponents were an under .500 bucks team, a bulls team with a 6 man rotation and a 49 win pacers team that would have MAYBE been an 8th seed in the west. and he did this all after joining up with dwyane wade and chris bosh. come on now, keep things in perspective here. duncan, kobe and shaq tearing through the west for as many years as they did is more impressive and he's still below those 3 guys. he might get there, but keep things in perspective. i'm not a lebron hater...but you guys are getting way too ahead of yourselves

Ca$H
06-21-2013, 02:31 PM
kobe - 5 rings, 2 finals mvps, 1 mvp, 15x all star, 15x all nba, 9x 1st team all d, 2x scoring champ, Most 1st team All NBA and All defensive teams in NBA history, 4th in total career points

An undisputed top 5 resume is apparently not good enough for " a top 10 GOAT
ranking"

Lebron was great this year and he's cracked the top 10 because of it, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Objectively I think he's displaced Olajuwon, but the consistency and longevity of Kobe and Duncan are too much to overcome at this point. If a few years go by and Lebron is still ballin at a high level then he's no doubt going to move up a good amount.
