This region is kind of interesting. I could already see a potential classic 08 Celtics vs. 07 Spurs 1-2 seed KGvsDuncan battle in the finals. But it does have some good dark-horse teams, like the 05 Suns, and even the 04 Lakers as a 6th seed.

Really likin Boston's odds to win this. Defense wins games.

Yeah, going by what I've seen when using the '08 Celtics in some sims against other historically great teams, I'd be surprised if they didn't come out of this region. They're a beast on WIS.

Yeah, from including the '08 Celtics in some sims against other historically great teams, I'd be surprised if they didn't come out of this region. They're a beast on WIS.
Can we stop talking about WIS and talk about real-life!? 08 Celtics were a beast in real-life too lol

If the simulator doesn't factor in age as determinant, than the 04 Lakers are my pick...
Pretty sure it basically does because I think it mostly, somehow, goes by the averages for the players that season. So, essentially, you'll get pretty close to the '04 versions of Malone and Payton.
And to go by what I think would happen in real-life, I'd still go with the '08 Celtics. I mean sure, they struggled just to make it to the Finals, but that team is/was still pretty damn good. And I think they're the best team in the region.
Don't know if they qualify since they're the 3-seed, but I could see the '09 Cavs as a darkhorse.

Haha I was thinking the 09 Cavs would be a good pick to be upset in the 1st round.

vs.
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2104/2427179575_2f73348213_m.jpg
16 2007 Toronto Raptors
Preview: The 2008 Boston Celtics finished with a 66-16 record, that is the 2nd highest # of wins in the entire decade. It came in the 1st year of the Big 3: Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. Afterwards they went into the playoffs and eventually won the championship earning them the top speed. KG, Pierce, and Ray were as good as they have ever been on Boston, but Rondo was still young at age 21. They were a dominant defense this season as well.
The 2007 Raptors were probably the best Bosh-led team seen. They went 47-35 that season before losing to the Nets in the 1st round. Besides for Bosh having arguably his best season, Ford, Parker, and Bargnani made an interesting set of role-players.
The main matchup to watch here will be Garnett vs. Bosh. If Garnett wins this battle the Raptors have almost no chance. Bosh needs to play well for Toronto to stand a chance. Overall, the Raptors will be looking at a tough series going against the top seeded Celtics who maybe the best defensive team in this tournament.

vs.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_atRAW4hhO34/TPzb7nd4SrI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/7LoPeKynp10/s1600/bbbb.jpeg
15 2005 Washington Wizards
Preview: The 2007 San Antonio Spurs went 58-24 and were the last of the championship Spur teams. It was once again led by Duncan-Ginobili-Parker. They were one of the top defensively and the best offensive team of the championship Spur teams. Once again, a very good team that will be difficult to beat in a 7 game series.
The 2005 Wizards went just 45-37 in the regular season but were able to advance past the 1st round in the playoffs. They were led by a Big-3 as well: Arenas-Hughes-Jamison. This team was more offensive focused and had many ways to score the basketball. Arenas especially was one of the most explosive players at the time.
The Wizards will be the 1st bottom seed that actually won a playoff series. It will also be interesting to see a Big 3 vs. Big 3. Can the Wizards big 3 make this into a good series? A lot of it will depend on Arenas and his matchup with Parker. Duncan should have his way in the paint as the Wizards lack a big, so for an upset to happen the Wizards will have to match points against the Spurs.

vs.
http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/280/696/minnesota_timberwolves_logo_display_image.gif
14 2000 Minnesota Timberwolves
Preview: The 2009 Cleveland Cavaliers went 66-16 in the regular season. This was one of the best records acheived in the entire decade. They fell short of expectations in the playoffs falling to the Orlando Magic in the ECF. Nonetheless they are a very strong team led by MVP LeBron James. This is the highest ranked team James is playing for in this tournament. How far will they go here? Time will tell.
The 2000 Minnesota Timberwolves won 50 games in the regular season before losing in the 1st round. They were led by Kevin Garnett who was entering his prime and becoming a great PF. Terrell Brandon was also playing the best basketball of his career giving the Wolves a dynamic duo. This is not a team to take easy.
The battle will be between 24 year old James vs. 23 year old Garnett. The play of these 2 players will have a huge impact on the winner. Mo Williams and Brandon will be the x-factors. Overall the Cavaliers have better cast as a whole, the Timberwolves don

But with a strong 3rd quarter the Cavs were able to hold their lead in the 4th and take Game 4 of the series evening it at 2-2. KG had another great game as LeBron has had trouble defending him. Player of the Game: L.James 38pts/8reb/8ast on 14/25 FG

Player of the Game: K.Garnett 35pts/16reb/6ast on 14/22 FG
Recap: The Timberwolves battled hard to force a Game 7, they were succesful at the end. Kevin Garnett had a big game, possibly his best of the series to force the Game 6. He had all the intensity required this game. LeBron really wanted to finish the series off tonight, he scored 41pts including 22 in the 4th, but his efforts were just a little short. Kevin Garnett finished with 17 points in the 4th and a win.

4 2005 Phoenix Suns
vs.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/zh/1/1f/76ERS-logo.PNG
13 2003 Philadelphia 76ers
Preview: The 2005 Phoenix Suns went 62-20 in the regular season before losing to the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs in the WCF. This was the 1st year of the run&gun Suns era led by MVP Steve Nash. Their new up-tempo style of play was succesful and could create problems for teams with all the talent they have. Nash/Amare/Marion were all-stars this season while Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson were also great contributers.
The 2003 76ers went 48-34 in the regular season before losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs. They were led by Allen Iverson of course, in prime form for the 76ers. Iverson did not have much help, but he had key role players like Van Horn and Eric Snow which made them a good overall team.
Iverson vs. Nash will be an exciting battle to watch in this series. The 76ers will have to rely on Snow to slow Nash as much as possible, while the Suns will just have to rely on their golden rule of “Just score more than your opponent” type of basketball as they simply try to outscore the 76ers and win the series.

Player of the Game: A.Iverson 28pts/12ast
Recap: The 76ers go ahead and play the Suns style of play and get the Game 1 win. Iverson had a huge game as he loved the up-tempo pace of the game. A lot of the 76er role players also had a good game as the 76ers shock the Suns to take a 1-0 lead.

Recap: In a classic Suns game the Suns take it in a close finish. Down 121-118 with 1:30 left, Joe Johnson hit a clutch 3 to tie it up. Then Amare hit a go ahead jumpshot with 40 seconds left to give the Suns a 2 point lead. The 76ers had a chance to send it to OT but Iverson missed the shot as the buzzer went off. This is one I would've really liked to see. Looks like 24 year old James and 23 year old KG went toe to toe in this series. Just reminds you what a beast KG was while his team sucked.

12 2009 Dallas Mavericks
Preview: The 2000 Indiana Pacers went 56-26 in the regular season before losing to the Lakers in the finals. They led by the perimeter duo of Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose, both of which who could put the ball in the hoop. They also the bigman duo of Rik Smith-Dale Davis giving them potentially the tallest starting PF-C in this tournament. Overall this team was well balanced and coached by Larry Legend.
The 2009 Dallas Mavericks 50-32 in the regular season before losing to the Nuggets in the 2nd round of the playoffs. They were impressive in the 1st round defeating the Spurs in 5 games, but fell apart in the 2nd round. They were of course led by Dirk Nowitzki, who had a great year. They also had Jason Terry and Josh Howard playing great basketball. Overall this is the 4th Maverick team in this tournament (3 06 Mavericks, 5 03 Mavericks, and 10 01 Mavericks).
Could this be the 1st upset? The Pacers certainly don

Game 1: Mavericks 115, at Pacers 94
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8109041&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: J.Howard 22pts/7reb/4stl
Recap: The Mavericks go into Indiana and send a message. They route the Pacers with some excellent offense, turning it over just 6 times. Dirk had 26/7 while Terry exploded off the bench 29 points. Miller and Rose will need to be more aggressive on offense Game 2.
Game 2: at Pacers 101, Mavericks 80
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8109075&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: R.Miller 27pts/5reb on 9/16 FG
Recap: The Pacers come into Game 2 making adjustments on defense and holding the Mavericks who scored 115 in the 1st game to just 80 points in the 2nd game. Overall the Mavericks shot just 39%, even Dirk struggled going 7/18. The series now shifts over to Dallas.
Game 3: at Mavericks 108, Pacers 62
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8109117&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: D.Nowitzki 26pts/14reb
Recap: No there is no typo, the Mavericks blow out the Pacers 108-62 in Game 3. This is easily the largest win margin of any game in this tournament thus far. It was just absolutely embarrassing to say the least. The Pacers shot just 30% from the field this game, and had a lot of trouble scoring the basketball. It will be hard to rebound from this one.
Game 4: at Mavericks 116, Pacers 107
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8109148&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: D.Nowitzki 39pts/8reb on 14/24 FG
Recap: For the 1st time in the series the game was not a blowout, the Pacers led 89-84 entering the 4th in this offensive shootout, but the Mavericks came in strong starting the 4th with a 17-2 run. This was enough to give them the lead and put the Pacers away for good. Dirk Nowitzki was huge in this crucial game scoring 39points for Dallas. The Mavericks are now one win away from an upset.
Game 5: Mavericks 105, at Pacers 86
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8109170&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: D.Nowitzki 33pts/11reb on 12/21 FGs
Recap: The Pacers come out low on energy and the Mavericks take advantage finishing the series off. Dirk Nowitzki once again was a tough matchup for the Pacers as they had no answer for the German Bigman. The supporting cast was also strong as they complete the 1st upset of the tournament in 5 games.

11 2009 Portland Trailblazers
Preview: The 2004 Lakers went 56-26 in the regular season before losing in the NBA Finals. Many people call them the best team in the 2000s not to win the championship. Well at least on paper. They had 4 future HOFs: Payton-Kobe-Malone-Shaq. Though Payton and Malone were past their primes, they were still strong contributors. Many people see this team as the darkhorse of the region, and can see them reaching the Final 4. And they certainly have the talent to go all the way.
The 2009 Blazers went 54-28 in the regular season before losing in the 1st round to the Rockets. They had a prime Brandon Roy, a player whose prime did not last for long. They also have Lamarcus Aldridge, who was a rising star at this point playing at all-star level. Roy and Aldridge paired with multiple good role players makes this team a tough team to beat.
This will be a good matchup, though we have already seen two 11 seeds advance to the 2nd round, the Blazers look like the least likely to pull it off. The 2004 Lakers are probably underrated as a 6 seed. They have a lot of talent on this roster and will be as tough as anyone to beat in this tournament. Kobe vs. Roy will be a good matchup to watch, Lakers hope Malone can limit Aldridge. The Blazers have good other role-players, but Lakers have Shaq along with GP.

Player of the Game: S.O’Neal 24pts/16reb/6blk/5ast on 11/18 FG
Recap: The Lakers dominate Game 1 in this blowout. O’Neal led the way with a great all-around game, while Kobe led all scorers with 25 points. Both O’Neal and Kobe were in foul-trouble but they still produced well. Malone added 17 ,and overall the Lakers played great defense today.
Game 2: at Lakers 102, Blazers 91
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8138867&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: K.Bryant 26pts/8reb/5ast
Recap: The Lakers take a 2-0 game lead on the Blazers. The Blazers gave more effort this time, coming back from 15 down in the 1st to cut it to 1. But they never got closer as the Lakers finished it off. Kobe & Shaq both had over 20 points, while Payton added 18 for the Lakers. Roy struggled shooting again.
Game 3: Lakers 99, at Blazers 94
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8138904&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: S.O’Neal 22pts/10reb/4blk
Recap: In a must-win game for the Blazers, the Blazers just could not finish the game off. They led the majority, including 8 entering the 4th, but the Lakers ralllied back to take a 3-0 lead. Kobe and Shaq once again led the scoring for the Lakers and Kobe once again played excellent defense on Roy.

Player of the Game: S.O’Neal 32pts/14reb on 13/23 FG
Recap: Game 4 was very similar to Game 3, the Blazers had a solid 4th quarter lead and all they had to do was hold onto it. This time they did. A huge 3 by outlaw in the closing minutes gave them a good enough lead as the Blazers get their 1st win of the series. Kobe struggled shooting 10/27 this game.

10 2005 Seattle SuperSonics
Preview: The 2002 New Jersey Nets went 52-30 in the regular season going all the way to the NBA Finals before losing. They were led by Jason Kidd who was the top PG at the time and nearly won the NBA MVP. Besides for Kidd, Van Horn, Kittles, and Kenyon Martin were good role-players who contributed well. Overall this team played great defense too and Kidd led the offense.
The 2005 Seattle Sonics went 52-30 in the regular season before losing to the eventual champion Spurs in the 2nd round. They were led by the All-Star duo of Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, both great shooters and scorers. Besides for Allen and Lewis, they had good role-players who all just new their role really well and played it really well.
This will be an interesting series, another matchup of a finalist eastern conference team against a lower seeded but tough western conference opponent. The West has won these matchups so far but this can change here. The Nets were more about defense while the Sonics were more about offense, so the Nets will have to do their best to defend Allen and Lewis otherwise they will have a tough time winning this series even with Jason Kidd on their team.

Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8171382&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: J.Kidd 12pts/17ast/8reb
Recap: The Nets take Game 1 at home. They played great defense in the 1st half holding Seattle to 31, in the 2nd half the Sonics found their offensive rythm and cut the double-digit deficit, but the Nets also plaeyd better offense and won the game. Kidd led the way with 17 assists.
Game 2: at Nets 110, Sonics 98
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8171435&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: J.Kidd 18pts/8reb/8ast on 7/12 FG
Recap: The Nets take a 2-0 lead in the series. The game went similarily, the Nets played excellent defense and held onto the lead in the 2nd half as the Sonics offense came alive too late. Jason Kidd had 18 points and 8 assits as the Sonics forced him to score, while Van Horn addded 24. The Nets have defended both Allen and Lewis well this series.
Game 3: at Sonics 116, Nets 107
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8171483&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: R.Allen 28pts/7ast
Recap: The Sonics get their 1st win of the series to cut the deficit to 2-1. It was another high scoring game, but this time the Sonics were in control and came through. Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis both had their best game of the series combining 52 points, including combining 23 in the 4th quarter to put the Nets away.
Game 4: at Sonics 99, Nets 86
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8171531&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: R.Lewis 22pts/5reb
Recap: The Sonics even up the series at 2-2 with a good home win. The Sonics finally focused a bit more on defense holding the Nets to 41% shooting this game. Rashard Lewis had another good game as he has played much better at home than the road.
Game 5: Sonics 114, at Nets 96
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8171549&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: R.Allen 30pts/6reb/5ast
Recap: In another tough fought game, the Sonics pulled away in the 4th as Ray Allen scored 17 of his 30 points there. The Sonics continued to play better and defense and got the offensive punch they needed to win on the road and take a 3-2 lead in the series. The Nets will fight elimination in Seattle in Game 6.
Game 6: Nets 119, at Sonics 107
Box Score:http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8171576&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: J.Kidd 19pts/11reb/11ast
Recap: The Nets played with a win or die mentality and got a big win on the road in Seattle. The Nets trailed Seattle by 10 at halftime but played excellent on both ends of the floor to comeback and stun the Sonics. Kidd had another triple-double as he lead the way, the Nets outscored Seatle 67-45 in the 2nd half in this win.
Game 7: Sonics 111, at Nets 80
Box Score:http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8171593&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: R.Lewis 30pts/12reb
Recap: The Sonics go on the road and dominate the Nets in Game 7. Lewis had his best performance of the series as the crowd booed the Nets off after this game. It was a pathetic 1st half as the Sonics played with Game 7 intensity while the Nets had nothing and scored just 28 points in the 1st half. The Sonics move onto round 2.

9 2009 Houston Rockets
Preview: The 2004 Sacramento Kings went 55-27 in the regular season before losing to the Timberwolves in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Peja Stjojakovic had become the leader of this team, having the best season of his career. Brad Miller had also become a force by this time as they were known as one of the best passing teams. Webber was the only guy not up to par, as he had an injury prone season and was not 100% most of it. But even despite a lower Webber, the Kings were loaded.
The 2009 Houston Rockets went 53-29 in the regular season before losing to the eventual champion Lakers in 7 games in the 2nd round. It was the 1st time Houston had made it to the 2nd round. However by now McGrady was out of his prime and not a big factor after a injury prone season. Nonetheless they played great team ball and good defense in this team centered around Yao Ming.
The 2004 Kings were known as one of the best offensive teams that season while the Houston Rockets played excellent defense. Both Battier and Artest will be available to chase down Peja all series, while it will be interesting to see how much a factor injured Webber and McGrady will be for their teams in this series. Can Yao Ming step up and take his team to the 2nd round? Or will Sacramento get their 2nd team to advance.

1 2008 Boston Celtics
vs.
http://www.huntlogo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/sacramento-kings-logo-272x336.png
8 2004 Sacramento Kings
Preview: The 2008 Boston Celtics finished with a 66-16 record, that is the 2nd highest # of wins in the entire decade. It came in the 1st year of the Big 3: Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. Afterwards they went into the playoffs and eventually won the championship earning them the top speed. KG, Pierce, and Ray were as good as they have ever been on Boston, but Rondo was still young at age 21. They were a dominant defense this season as well.
The 2004 Sacramento Kings went 55-27 in the regular season before losing to the Timberwolves in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
The Celtics are a 1 seed and advanced in the 1st round beating the Raptors in 6 games. The Kings also advanced in 6 games beating Houston. Garnett was huge that series with 21/13/6 and the Kings will need to slow him down a bit more if they want to win this series. The Kings had more of a team effort in this series, Webber was hurt this season so he quite isn’t 100% in this series either. Boston plays excellent defense while Sacramento plays excellent offense so that battle will be interesting to watch. Both these teams are strong at home too, Boston went 3-0 on their court in the 1st round. So for the Kings to upset, a road win is a must.

Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8200493&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: R.Allen 25pts/6reb/6ast on 8/13 FG
Recap: The Celtics easily take Game 1 on their homecourt with a great performance by Ray Allen scoring 25 points. KG was in foul trouble and played just 28 minutes but still scored 20 as he made a big difference on defense whenever he was in the game.
Game 2: at Celtics 106, Kings 91
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8200494&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: K.Garnett 32pts/8reb on 14/23 FG
Recap: The Kings gave a tough battle to the Celtics in this game but the Celtics just pulled away in the 4th. Garnett had a monster game with 32 points, as he has been tough for the Kings to guard these 1st 2 games. The Kings also continue to struggle to get into their offensive groove shooting 42.5%.
Game 3: at Kings 108, Celtics 106
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8200499&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: C.Webber 20pts/12reb and GW
Recap: The Kings win a roller-coaster classic Game 3. They trailed by 15 in the 2nd quarter before exploded in the 3rd outscoring the Celtics 33-16 to take the lead. It appeared they would run away with it building a 11 point lead in the 4th but the Celtics fought back and regained the lead. Webber’s shot with 6 seconds left though put the Kings up for good as they now trail 2-1.
Game 4: Celtics 109, at Kings 100
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8200538&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: K.Garnett 37pts/17reb on 16/24 FG
Recap: Kevin Garnett has a monster performance to win a tough road game the Celtics really needed to win. This game was very close all throughout, but Garnett and the Celtics just had a little more willpower to push them over the top. The Celtics now take a 3-1 lead in the series.
Kings make adjustments to give Webber and Peja who has had a good series more time.
Game 5: at Celtics 119, Kings 102
Box Score: http://whatifsports.com/nba/boxscore.asp?GameID=8200570&nomenu=1&teamfee=-1
Player of the Game: K.Garnett 30pts/13reb/6ast on 12/17 FG
Recap: The Celtics close out the series with another comfortable win at home. They are now 6-0 at the Boston Garden in this tournament, a better home record than any other team. Garnett was once again was dominant, the Kings big men had no answer for him. Divac is too old, Webber was hurt, and Brad Miller sucks at defense.

2 2007 San Antonio Spurs
vs.
http://logomentor.com/logos/seattle-sonics-logo.gif
10 2005 Seatlel SuperSonics
Preview: The 2007 San Antonio Spurs went 58-24 and were the last of the championship Spur teams. It was once again led by Duncan-Ginobili-Parker. They were one of the top defensively and the best offensive team of the championship Spur teams. Once again, a very good team that will be difficult to beat in a 7 game series.
he 2005 Seattle Sonics went 52-30 in the regular season before losing to the eventual champion Spurs in the 2nd round. They were led by the All-Star duo of Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, both great shooters and scorers. Besides for Allen and Lewis, they had good role-players who all just new their role really well and played it really well.
The San Antonio Spurs advanced easily in round 1 beating the Wizards in 4 games. In fact, each game was a double digit victory and they had the highest win margin in the 1st round. The effort was led by Duncan who averaged 26.0ppg and 17.5rpg dominating the weak Wizards frontcourt. The Sonics won a tough series against the Nets winning in 7 games. In this 2nd round matchup, both Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis need a big series to beat the Spurs .They lost to the Spurs in 2005, but even then it was a tough 6 game loss. The Spurs have a slightly old Bruce Bowen to slow one of them down though. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker will once again be problems for the Sonics to contain. Sonics did have some good bigmen, but no one close to the level of Tim Duncan. It will be a tough series for the Sonics to win, the Spurs are champions and have not lost a game in the tournament so far.

6 2004 Los Angeles Lakers
Preview: The 2009 Cleveland Cavaliers went 66-16 in the regular season. This was one of the best records acheived in the entire decade. They fell short of expectations in the playoffs falling to the Orlando Magic in the ECF. Nonetheless they are a very strong team led by MVP LeBron James. This is the highest ranked team James is playing for in this tournament. How far will they go here? Time will tell.
The 2004 Lakers went 56-26 in the regular season before losing in the NBA Finals.
The 2009 Cleveland Cavaliers advanced past the Timberwolves in Round 1 in a tough 7 game series. LeBron James averaged 29/9/6 in the series to win it for the Cavaliers. The Lakers on the other hand were led by Kobe and Shaq who combined nearly 50 points as their Big 4 easily handled the Blazers in 5 games. Nonetheless, they now come in as the lower seed in this matchup. Both the Cavs and Lakers were projected to win the championship by many in their respective seasons but both fell short. In this series the Lakers will have to stop James, Kobe has taken the challenge to guard him so he should be able to slow him down. The Cavaliers will have to rely on their tough defense to stop LA. 12 2009 Dallas Mavericks
The Suns easily advanced in Round 1 of the playoffs winning in 5 games over the 2001 76ers. They Mavericks also easily advanced as the 12th seed winning in 5 games over the 2000 Pacers setting up a Suns vs. Mavericks 2nd round matchup. This should be an exciting series as a Nash vs. Dirk series always is. Nowitzki was huge in the 1st round with 27.6ppg and 10.0rpg, while Amare was a beast for the Suns averaging 28.2ppg on 58% shooting. The Suns in 2005 had one of the top offenses and in Round 1 they showed that scoring 100+ each game and averaging a tournament high 112.0ppg in the 1st round. Dallas will have to play some strong defense if they hope to upset, while the Suns will continue to run/gun and look for stops on Dirk.

http://www.templatesurge.com/images/suns.jpg
4 2005 Phoenix Suns
Preview: The 2008 Boston Celtics finished with a 66-16 record, that is the 2nd highest # of wins in the entire decade. It came in the 1st year of the Big 3: Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. Afterwards they went into the playoffs and eventually won the championship earning them the top speed. KG, Pierce, and Ray were as good as they have ever been on Boston, but Rondo was still young at age 21. They were a dominant defense this season as well.
The 2005 Phoenix Suns went 62-20 in the regular season before losing to the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs in the WCF.
The Celtics went 8-3 in the 1st 2 rounds of this tournament not having too much trouble. They are 6-0 at home so far and that makes them tough to beat as a #1 seed. The Suns breezed through the 1st round and held on in the 2nd round beating Dallas 4-3. The Suns are arguably the best offensive team remaining in this tournament and will challenge the Celtics defense. Amare was huge last round averaging 28.6ppg and 10.4rpg. He will be matchup against KG who also was huge last round averaging 28.0ppg and 10.6rpg. But both these teams have much more talent than these 2 big men, Steve Nash was the MVP in 2005, and the Suns also had JJ and Marion who also have been big contributers. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce will have to play their best also as this series promises to be exciting.

It's funny how great individual offense is given the upper hand over great individual defense most of the time. How often do you hear announcers say, "Great defense, better offense."? But as a team, great team defense is considered to be a necessity for a "championship quality" team and offense isn't.

3 2009 Cleveland Cavaliers
Preview: The 2007 San Antonio Spurs went 58-24 and were the last of the championship Spur teams. It was once again led by Duncan-Ginobili-Parker. They were one of the top defensively and the best offensive team of the championship Spur teams. Once again, a very good team that will be difficult to beat in a 7 game series.
The 2009 Cleveland Cavaliers went 66-16 in the regular season.
LeBron James gets another shot at the 07 Spurs, and this time has much more help with him. The Spurs and the Cavaliers square off in a tough Sweet 16 matchup. The Spurs have gone 8-2 in the tournament thus far, while the Cavaliers were very impressive last round beating the 2004 Lakers in 6 games. LeBron James will need a big series once again, he averaged 30/9/8 against the Lakers. The Spurs will rely on Bruce Bowen to guard LeBron primarily. On the other hand, the Cavs will need answers for Duncan and Parker, both of which they failed to guard in the 2007 finals. Duncan averaged 23ppg/13rpg last series and there is no doubt he is still a factor.

2 2007 San Antonio Spurs
Preview: The 2008 Boston Celtics finished with a 66-16 record, that is the 2nd highest # of wins in the entire decade. It came in the 1st year of the Big 3: Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. Afterwards they went into the playoffs and eventually won the championship earning them the top speed. KG, Pierce, and Ray were as good as they have ever been on Boston, but Rondo was still young at age 21. They were a dominant defense this season as well.
The 2007 San Antonio Spurs went 58-24 and were the last of the championship Spur teams. It was once again led by Duncan-Ginobili-Parker. They were one of the top defensively and the best offensive team of the championship Spur teams. Once again, a very good team that will be difficult to beat in a 7 game series.
The top 2 teams of the region battle it out in the finale. The Celtics have gone 12-4 in the 1st 3 rounds, including 9-0 at home. The Big 3 have all produced well and have made it tough for anyone to beat them with their great defense and good offensive production from many sources. The Spurs have also gone 12-4 in the 1st 3 rounds have had great contribution from Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili. This team may be the strongest Spur team. The matchup to watch here will be Duncan vs. KG, and if the Spurs can contain Ray Allen and Pierce. Also Rondo will need to play his best defense and limit Tony Parker. Spurs won in 2007, and Celtics in 2008, which team was the better champion?
