For Jrue Holiday and a 2014 first. WOW.

Philadelphia sends Jrue Holiday and a first-round pick in 2014 to New Orleans for Noel, league source says.

That's a TERRIBLE trade for 76ers. The 76ers will take Trey Burke at 11 now. But you trade an up-and-coming PG AND a pick in one of the deepest drafts EVER? For an injured Noel?

NO receives: Holiday, #42
PHI receives: Noel, '14 first rounder ("lightly protected")

This is one of the worst trades in NBA history. I mean that. Philly will have a top five pick next season if they don't go crazy in free agency.

They'll offer Josh Smith a max deal to make it worse.

They should be an awful team next year now and might get a few more lottery balls with the pick they get if NO misses the playoffs.

What an awful trade. I wasn't high on Noel to begin with but to give away JRUE? One of the best young point guards in the league who's already an all star and is still going into his prime for a limited defensive specialist coming off an injury. :facepalm

I think I like it for Philly too.

Holiday is good but overrated. I think Noel will be a good starter in the NBA which is what you hope to get when you get someone out of the top 3 in most drafts. I just wonder if they could have gotten a little more in return for Holiday. But really, getting another pick for next year from a team that will probably miss the playoffs is big.

Mediocrity is the worst place to be in the NBA.

Let the tank roll in Philly!

I agree. good trade for philly getting the pick in return. I hope for their sake the pelicans don't get a top 3 pick.

Horrible trade for philly. Wtf r you think.

Amazing trade for Philadelphia.

What they had without the trade:

2014 season: maybe end up 41-41 or so. Get the 15th pick or so next year.
2015 season: more mediocrity at best
2016 season: more mediocrity

What they have now:

2014 season: miss the playoffs...get a lotto pick in next year's draft, and new orlean's pick
2015: start the year with Noel, maybe Jabari Parker, and another 2014 draftee (which is projected to be the next 2003 draft class)

Looks good to me.

I'm sorry I am intoxicated. But what do you mean? Cant Sixers suck next year which is likely giving away their best player? Thus being in position to draft a Wiggins or a Parker since his name was tossed in the mix?????

If pick is protected 1-5 that means Sixers have a chance because they will only get either player drafting top 2-3. :confusedshrug:

I'm a Sixer fan and I'm in my early 40's so I've seen a lot of Sixer basketball. I didn't like Noel as the #1 guy in the draft but I like this trade a lot. The Sixers are going nowhere this year and this is a shrewd move for their future. I didn't like Holiday as a real PG and i feel like they got a good pass first PG in the draft and a really good shot blocker. They cleared Holiday's big ass contract off the books and got another draft pick out of it. I think it's a good gamble. They were going to suck anyway so might as well suck really badly. It's the unfortunate downside to a real rebuild. I'm totally down with it.

Jrue Holiday is overrated IMO. He had an average shooting percentage with decently high usage rate, along with the fact he played 38 MPG.

GOBB, you've always wanted this team to not stay mediocre, Holiday is a good enough player to keep them mediocre, but not good enough of an All-Star to get them over the hump or anything like that. As far as I'm concerned the Sixers fans should like this trade for next years draft where they'll have their own pick which should be top 5, and then the Pelicans pick which should be top 10-15 I think. Michael Carter-Williams has potential IF he can shoot the ball at all.

He is signed to a 4 year $40 some million extension already so NO gets him for a discount over the next 4 years. I think it was a really good trade for the Hornets. They now have better talent and depth with a lot of young talent. They are the most interesting team for me going into 2013-2014.

I think the deal does make sense for both teams. Love Jrue as a player but I think the Sixers were destined for a decade of mediocrity without doing something dramatic to rebuild. I think in 2-3 years this trade will be looked at as a good deal (as long as we don't blow draft picks).

Not only that but they should have like $36 million in cap space next year. I def like this move. They were gonna suck this year no matter what and although Holiday is a nice player, I didn't like him and he's not a cornerstone kind of guy. Yeah I'm warming up to the trade. I would have liked McLemore over Noel tho.

I absolutely love, love, LOVE this trade.
I don't think we'd fill any needs taking on McLemore as we already have players similar to what he brings to the table (Young, Wright) and BM may just be a younger J-Rich clone.
What Nerlen Noel brings is something that compliments Hawes and anchors a defense. If he's anything similar to what Ratliff brought or has the same career output as Marcus Camby than we have something to work with. I'm willing to gamble on our odds for next year's draft. Even if we don't get top 2 there are players available at the 1-4 position that have great franchise potential.

I felt with Jru that was it. This is his ceiling. I dodn't feel his productivity or impact could get any better. He's one of those Ty Evans/Brandon Jennings type players who have positive stats but little impact. This will work out for both parties.

This is a great trade for Philly. Clean house and rebuild and get future 1st round picks probably lottery. Sixers plan is to tank the 2013-2014 season and be ready for the 2014 draft which is expected to be loaded. This is how you rebuild in the NBA.

Glad to see the Sixers making moves.

When I first heard about it I had mixed feelings, as I felt giving up a draft pick was too much. But when I learned that was a mistake, I was good with it.

Loved Jrue, but the team seemed destined for a 1st round exit (at best) for upcoming years. It's been decades of that.

Not saying Noel, or anyone we get in next year's draft will make us a championship team, but at least my interest in the Sixers is rejuvenated.

Sixers don't need Wiggins for this trade to be a win. If they can get one of Wiggins/Parker/Randle/Gordon it's great, and one of GRob3/McGary/one of these international guys with that other pick, it's icing on the cake.

Of course, Wiggins is the prize. But a steady load of future all-stars away from him in '14.

Anyone knows what happened with this trade?

It never became official (not confirmed on the Sixers web site, NBA transactions, etc). I thought it was a matter of waiting for physicals to clear or something, but I see nothing...

Did this get called off, was never factual, or just pending paperwork? What's the status?
