Love it so far. Only thing I don't like is that he still uses Biggie lines now and again ("...and that's just the half of my warpath" on FUTW, taken from Long Kiss Goodnight)

Solid album, not his worst, but not his best either. I think BPIII is better. MCHG doesn't have the lows that BPIII has but it doesn't have the peaks either. I don't think anything on MCHG can match or top On To The Next One, Young Forever, Run This Town, Empire State Of Mind, D.O.A., etc. It falls short of Watch The Throne as well. But overall, solid.

It sounds like Rick Rubin mixed it.

1st song: Him talking about being famous
2nd song: He wants a picasso, and a billion dollars

How/why do regular people listen to this stuff? Unless you're in a club/party, these songs are just out of place and meaningless to me.

3rd song: "Clap for a ***** with his rapping ass." Wtf. Weird flow. Who the hell is Tom Ford? He's trying to sound like Drake, ew.

4th song: "Money talk, I speak flunent *****." Guy rhymes off the n-word for 40 seconds in the first verse. This song is like a rap parody. Dumb lyrics. "**** with me, you know I got it. Sexy bitch, I hope she 'bout it." I bet you're the first rapper to say that.

The quote in the beginning of track 4 is silly too. Not all black people in Africa wore gold. I imagine the type of person who hears that quote and is moved by it, and I judge them silently.

Jay-Z Blue: I stopped listening to the lyrics but this one at least doesn't have an annoying beat like the first 4.

There's no use for rap anymore besides parties. Who can sit there and listen to these guys brag about their money and degrade woman, and just shout their negative attitudes out with no melody. Such a depressing genre.

It's wack, I dunno why people don't listen to real music. Even real hip hop.

It used to bother me that people continue to say music like this (whether it's rap or rock or whatever) is good because it means, to me, that they haven't heard the scope of the shit that's out there. Now, I accept it.

You ain't saying nothing tho homie, you just puttin words together that rhyme.

You rhymed pack with back, that & trap. And then re used back a few lines down..

You're using the most basic elementary rhyme scheme "snap, rat, that, trap"

At this stage in your rhyming career I don't think you're ready to give Jay Z any tips on how to write a song.

it's not about whether or not someone has millions, it's about rapping about real stuff. like if jay z has millions of dollars and he can rap about how much money he has and how he came up from nothing and has a great flow with it i'm gonna enjoy it. same thing about a poor ass rapper who's still trying to come up and raps about whatever struggles he's gone through etc. but they're almost two completely different genres. i wouldn't expect some new rap to rap about how famous and rich he is, and tbh if he did it'd be stupid. honestly i just like factual statements in rap that are delivered with swagger

I like this album. I wouldn't put it in my top 5 Jay albums, but this was a good listen. Probably won't listen to half of these tracks again, or at least not regularly. That's what separates this from other albums, there are several Jay-Z albums that I can listen to top to bottom. This one is sort of tedious to get through.

Production quality is amazing though, and relative to what's out there these days, it will be one of the better albums this year (not a good thing imo). On a side note, F*ckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt has some of that classic Jay-Z word play. The Casino reference after the DeNiro line gave me a chuckle no lie.

Anybody saying The Gifted is better than MCHG is insane. The Gifted sucked ass. Just same old Wale doing spoken word over beats attempting to be deep on every track. Makes it worse is that to get listeners he attempts to ride the wave by randomly throwing in a track with Nicki Minaj & Juicy J on the album that comes out of nowhere.

Born Sinner...I will not cosign because I've heard the same shit from Cole since 2009. Songs about crushing over girls then saying he doesn't need them followed by a song about how a girl broke his heart followed by a song praising Jay-Z followed by a song crushing on a girl. Almost forgot about the tracks about things his mom told him growing up & his high school basketball team. Then he has multiple songs that feel like he's just dick riding other rappers. Yes, it's cool to pay homage to Nas but sounding like a bitch on a song, dedicating 4 minutes to Nas being disappointed in you for your shitty Work Out single off the last album could've been used on one of his EPs because that song took the shine off him especially when Nas KILLED that beat 10x better than Cole did a couple weeks later. I won't even get into how the production on his tracks are T.I.-esque and have sounded the same for YEARS! At least Wale's style of beats have changed since his Seinfeld mixtape days.

He was extremely lazy on the songs on this album. There honestly wasn't a single track that he went in on.

I thought this album was enjoyable, but regrettably very forgettable. I really didn't have much desire to give it a second listen (I will, I just don't want to right now). It seems like people are just hyping it because of the beats, there's really nothing special going on lyrically.

MC[HG is easily the album of the year so far... anybody who says otherwise is in denial. Ppl complain about Jay's content, but what do you expect from Jay at this age? all he knows is money. I personally think the lyrics are good enough to go well with the outstanding production. I dont expect lyrical shit from Jay anymore, so when he does go in, its a bonus. The productions make it very strong but for ppl doggin Jay for corporate B.S. and saying his lyrics are weak, how many hip-hop artists that make references to some of the stuff he does while still getting huge sales?

Most of the artists that are intelligent, cultured and worldly enough to have the sophistication that Jay-Z does in his references, nobody outside of rapheads even heard of.

The album is a success in my book. I think it's a lot more personal than Blueprint 3 and Watch the Throne was a concept album that ultimately, left a lot to be desired sans like two real ass songs.

No way man, Jay z just got a bunch of cash together and threw it at the best producers. His songs sound good but just like you said he aint got shit to rap about. His album has no focus, no directions. Its just a bunch of songs with hot beats. He flows nice about random bullshit but its still random bullshit.

No, he's still rapping about past experiences that he's been rapping about for the past four years. It'd be nice if he took that style of story telling and gave us a behind the scenes look at the life of an artist. The REAL behind the scenes that no other rapper has really given us & I think that would be something right up his alley. Instead he sticks to the same formula that got him to the commercial level of hip hop instead of being a true artist and experimenting with new ways to create his art (lyrically)

Here's my little breakdown, track by track for those interested

Thread is titled Magna Carter...lmao.

Anyway, above was my initial reaction. I have been playin it fairly steady and tracks like Heaven, BBC & F.UT.W. get repeats cuz the production or the lyrics (on Heaven) are simply ill af.

Jay HOVA, the man still doin it at a high level :pimp:

The Tom Ford beat is really dope. I was let down by Jay-Z Blue tho that's the only song I was really interested in. I expected it to be a little more intimate and soulful but that's prob what I get for coming in with pre-formed expectations.

Thanks for checkin it out. Glad u enjoyed the album.

I don't understand all these faux ass artists, critics and ppl who think they have an elevated musical palette knockin it for being 'commercial' or 'corporate' just because Jay-Z used his vast resources to promote and get reputable producers. The final product is damn good.

Critics and artists need to differentiate themselves somehow and playing the pure art angle is just one option. I dont agree with that as a criticism but its not a hard motive to understand.

I downloaded and listened to it.

I'm not really feeling it but I was never a Jay-z.

album has been on repeat since it leaked... I am starting to believe there are subliminal illuminati messages in these tracks for real... too infectious.

Jay Z isnt with the Illuminati. I think you are listening a bit too deeply in the lyrics.

nah bro, I was just joking. I didn't actually mean that. On another note, Jay-z and Justin Timberlake were in Toronto yesterday for the legends of summer tour, did a trayvon tribute to Forever young, pretty dope.

I could have got a pair of front rows for $390, but passed on it. I dont mind Justin Timberlake, but I wouldnt pay to see him. If it was WTT2 though...

Yeezus is not a rap album, and should not be compared to this. You pretty much agreed with what I said... hot beats and Hov spitting about what he knows best... what more can you ask for?
How about lyrical depth? Once you listen to the songs enough times to remember the lyrics it starts to become really one dimensional.
