That's the line up of a team that needs to unload Gasol, Kobe, and Nash and blow it up.

But the won't. Even if they should take a page out of the Celtics book. Oh well, they will do it eventually.

And who the f*ck is gonna want to sign a minimum contract to play for one of the worst teams in the league?

At the end of the season there are always quality players that will sign for veterans minimum. Guys that fall through the cracks and contribute to playoff teams. It's still early in free agency, but please Earl Clark is not the difference between making the playoffs or not.

Eh it happens. Having been to 7 title parades, I think I've been more lucky than most. . Have to have a reset sometime. Lakers milked about as much as you possibly could out of one player and building around him as they could for the last 15 years.

New CBA, new era, Lakers have to change the way they do business and this is as good a time as any.

Fans that thought this would go on for all eternity without ever having to regroup are idiots. Even the mighty Lakers have to start fresh every now and again. Late 70's, Early 90's mid 2000's and now.

The Buss family has delivered time and time again. Be a little patient, Kobe's era is drawing to an end, he commands a massive portion of the salary and it's going to take sometime to reload from the 7 trips to the finals during his time.

as has been pointed out in the media repeatedly, the $ isnt that different. take away the 5th year (which he can get an extension for anyways) and the lakers can offer something like 6 million more over the first 4 years. But the very high state tax in cali (and no tax in tx) means that the actual difference in his earnings over the first 4 years is more like 1 million.

That team can still make the playoffs assuming Kobe can come back and play at a high level for around 65 games. Gasol at C is much, much better than at PF. A healthy Nash is still a solid PG and will probably look much without having to play with two 7 footers clogging the lane.

Of course, there doesn't seem to be much point in being a 7th/8th seed at this stage.

Maybe they should just blow the whole thing up.

Clippers are next door, The Heat are at South Beach....the Knicks and Nets in the North East and the Rockets and Spurs in the South West. I am pretty sure they could do with a few more bandwagoners.

Being a playoff team, even as a 7th/8th seed still ensures sell outs at Staples Center at sky high ticket prices and some playoff revenue is a lot better than none.

Business wise the Lakers would much prefer this scenario over a full rebuild with half the arena empty and all the celebrities gone.

LOL, with what draft pick? Doesn't LAL 2014 first round draft pick belong to PHX?

Nope. Phoenix has the Lakers 2015 first-round pick. The NBA recently implemented a rule that prevents a team from giving up back-to-back first-round picks. So in return for Nash, Phoenix got the Lakers 2013 first-round pick and 2015 first-round pick.

Good call, but I can one up you.

2 years ago, I said the Lakers should amnesty Kobe and grab Deron Williams to match up with Dwight Howard.

Dwill + Dwight + Pau (or trade him for pieces) and more role players and that team is going all the way to the Finals.

Considering the lack of talent pool in 2014, there's no point in clearing too much space. You can sign some solid players but it would be hard to get a single superstar. Best to do a S&T with Howard and take back some talent now, compete next year.

I really liked Earl Clark. It's too bad he tried being a magician with his constant disappearing acts.

If Dwight leaves, we are likely missing the Playoffs next season.

I'm not going to mourn anything, though. The Lakers' historically have proven to be a squad that doesn't remain bad for too long. 2014 free agency is only a season away.

And besides, the free agency period isn't over yet. I'm 100% confident in the Lakers' FO's ability to find good role players. They always do.
