Dude, their lineup isnt even that good at all.

The Lin and Asik signings are basically the negative equivalent of whatever positive value getting Dwight was. The team is meh. They are not better than the Pacers or Clippers or Grizzlies. Dwight may be the biggest star of those squads but the Rockets overall dont look very impressive.
:facepalm 2 of those teams went to their CFs. Rockets barely made the playoffs last season and were a lotto team just the season before. W/ Dwight (if true) they suddenly become Finals contenders.

They all knew from the getgo in LA , kobe included, that howard was an insincere, duplicit, hypocritical asshole who didnt care about camaradery and winning. None of them is surprised. He never truly fitted in. You could tell just watching at their body language during games. You could tell howard was pretending to play more than he actually did, and that he never seriously planned to stay. He made them look like clowns, not worth of his holiness.

And i said it once and say it again; wether he leaves or stay, lakers are toast for a looong time. It was the most logical option to leave, seriously.

Now about houston; they re not going anywhere even if he joins them. Dude will never grow up and be a leader. He will never materialize , improve any of his weaknesses. He likes to **** up and restart "fresh" over and over again, getting all the attention. Let s not forget dude has 8 kids with 8 women. Houston now might have a chance to reach p/o but then what? they ll never win a chip anyway.

He doesnt want to win that s why he didnt join loaded GS. He would have been exposed again. He wants a team built around him just like good ole orlando with stan van gundy. He wants everyone to suck his dick, everyone to consider him the messia. This is mega awesome news for the Houston Rockets. The best big man in the game combined with one of the best up-and-coming stars (some even argue, superstars) in the game + one hell of a supports cast... just wow. Look out. The West is wide open now.

This clearly puts the Lakers in a doo-doo position. They should begin to think about rebuilding mode. Even if Kobe comes back super healthy, they're going to have to work at making the post season in 2014. They still have a strong team, but they finished with the 7th (tied for 8th with guess who?) seed WITH Dwight Howard. If it's purely a gel issue, maybe the LakeShow cruises into the playoffs pending a white hot season from Kobe and help from Gasol, but I think they'll struggle to make the playoffs.

Clearly, Houston make the playoffs next year. A higher seed or lower seed is the question. I think it all depends on how well and quickly Howard gels with the rest of the Rockets. Honestly, I think Howard's and Harden's egos will clash. At this point, James Harden feels he's one of the league's best players, and IMO, rightfully so. Do I feel he's a superstar already? I say yes. I understand others don't feel he's quite there. I had a discussion with someone the other day who compared him to Joe Johnson. I think he's already better than Joe Johnson has ever been, or will ever be. Joe Johnson IMO was never a championship piece; unlike Harden, who I can easily see being a champion before his career is over (but likely NOT as the team's best player).

I think the combination of Howard and Harden is eventually going to be good enough to win a title. Multiple titles, I doubt it. Dynasty potential, hell no. I'm sorry, but they're just not a good enough combination to reach that stratosphere. With an even more enhanced supporting case, maybe, but likely not. It would take Dwight Howard putting his personal bullshit and ego COMPLETELY aside, and transforming into a ring-machine (just don't see it happening).

I really do like this move though for Houston. If not this season, they'll be a consecutive year-after-year higher seed franchise as long as management keeps role players in good circulation. If Howard and Harden can learn to coexist without egos getting in the way, this could be a very dangerous team for many seasons to come.

Also, forgot to mention something on my mind. I know Houston paid Jeremy Lin a pretty penny, but I think the Rockets would be better off shopping Lin some other championship caliber piece. I'm not saying Lin doesn't have the potential to be a rock-solid contributing piece to a championship team, but come on folks, let's be real, he had one hell of a season that I'm not going to say was a fluke, but that in time, we all may very well look back and say it was. While his value is still considerably high, they should explore the market and see what offers they get. It surely wouldn't hurt.

If Jeremy Lin continues to play like he did two seasons ago, yes, he greatly increases the chances of Howard and Harden being NBA champions, but if he plays way under his going-forward potential, that could spell trouble for Houston if they wish to trade him in the future rolling the dice sticking with him now. It's not like Lin is overpaid at the moment, in fact, many consider him with his current contract structure being one of the best "steals" in the league. Some feel he's currently underpaid, and if he performs like he did with the Knicks when he elevated them into the playoffs a couple seasons, they will hold true.

I think Jeremy Lin is the key. Whether that means Houston sticks with him, rolling the dice, he performs well and they go deep in the playoffs, or if they trade him early before he possibly drops in value by performing poorly, making his original buzz and success with the Knicks being a fluke. Either way, I feel Lin is the key to the Rockets future success (in terms of going deep in the post season).

Why would you even want him back? He was a terrible fit for the Lakers. A nightmare fit in D'antoni's system. Lastly, a trainwreck clash of personalities with Kobe Bryant. He simply didn't fit in with those guys. The underlying issue with Dwight Howard in Los Angeles was Dwight Howard. The underlying issue with Dwight Howard anywhere is, you guessed it, Dwight Howard. I'm hoping he'll be great in Houston, and find his way there. Again, it'll all come down to how he handles sharing the spotlight with James Harden. I don't see Harden just rolling over and letting Howard be in "run this town" mode.

Rightfully so, James Harden has proven he's a force to be reckoned with. Does Harden dominate or control a game in the same manner as the best big man in the game, no... no he doesn't ... but it'd be unfair to say Harden isn't a sure-shot game-changer. He is. Just as in any game Howard has the ability to block 5 shots and crash the boards with 20 rebound - Harden can go off and drop 40 on any opposing team. I think Howard's defense and rebounding ability combined with Harden's supernatural offensive ability is a recipe that spells doom for the rest of the west. Like I keep saying, it'll be a matter of how well they gel together and share the limelight.

Well, there goes Houston's future.

... alright? Houston finished 9th in the West last season. What position did you expect the Rockets to finish in the West if they didn't make changes to their roster going into the 2013-2014 season? They made changes, and not just a simple change, they added the best big man in the game! Are there risk associated with bringing Dwight Howard to your team? Yes, most def. But dude, that's a risk you have to take. You'd be a moron if you had the opportunity to add Dwight Howard and you passed up on the opportunity.

Realistically speaking, with Houston's ability to sign/trade a max player and bring them to your franchise, who would have been a better addition?

*crickets*

The combination of Howard + Harden has the raw potential to be super sick if both players (especially Howard) can just gel and put their egos aside. I realize that's a huge "if" ... but maybe it's time Howard grows up and finally values rings over "things" - (things being the cameras, the limelight, the personal pazazz, etc)

The problem in LA was not that Dwight Howard couldn't defend in LA like he did in Orlando, it was Mike D'Antoni's bullshit 95% offensive-based system. It was a trainwreck that didn't complement Howard's game whatsoever, on either ends of the court. Things will be much different in Houston.

The problem in LA was not that Dwight Howard couldn't defend in LA like he did in Orlando, it was Mike D'Antoni's bullshit 95% offensive-based system. It was a trainwreck that didn't complement Howard's game whatsoever, on either ends of the court. Things will be much different in Houston.

the lakers were 9th offensively, and 20th defensively. defense was the problem. and dwight clearly wasnt the same player he was in orlando, in either end of the floor.

you guys remember george hill turning the corner on howard in orlando for a game winner? me neither

If Dwight chooses LA after all, then I can already bet the people who were already spelling the Lakers doom and touting Houston are gonna turn around and say "Well, Lakers still aren't gonna be and be a bottom feeding team :oldlol: " in backtracking.

Dwight's camp demands that Lakers get rid of D'Antoni & Kobe and find a new PG. Rockets should trade Asik. Then he will choose between two.

Interesting that the extra year is actually a factor. I figured he would opt out and re-up after the 4th year anyway, but maybe he has concerns over his back long term. Could prevent him from getting a max deal at age 32/33

I don't disagree with you there. I know there's Lakers fans that are like that. In fact, this whole escapade has shown how quick people are turn on something in general because this isn't even confirmed and a bunch of hate Tweets were sent out.

To me those are the most annoying types of posters/people. Let this ride out and be humble either way. If Houston picks up Dwight, great for them, realize Lakers are gonna need some major moves to even be close to good or accept their doom impending year. So many people in this thread though act as if this is a lock when it's not yet. When it's official, then people can throw stones either way.

it's tough man. on one hand, having dwight locked up would give lakers a great head-start rebuilding wise. then again, lakers could tank and have 45mill to spend and have a top pick in the upcoming draft. however, you don't know when kobe is going to return, what he'll look like and that could fck up all the plans. kobe and pau might will the lakers into the play-offs, only for a 1st or 2nd round exit.

espn hasn't mentioned once that neither LA or Houston has received word one way or the other from Dwight. these other news outlets you speak of, have mentioned that. now get lost and stop trying to argue about nada.

No, that's greatly overstated. NBA players game checks are taxed in each state they receive them in.

Smart move by Dwight.

Harden is a good, young no.2 (or 1B) option and is in his 20s, it should give him a good window going forward.

Kobe is 35 and coming off a ruptured achilles. In 1-2 years he would regret staying in LA.

Jim Hill just reported that Dwight is flying into LA right now to meet with Mitch Kupchek and no final decision has been made. Report is the extra 30 mill is " weighing " heavely on dwights mind "

Apparently having 8 children with 8 different women in the last 6 years has given him some pause lol

I like Houston's future until now. I hope Dwight regains his form and matures and even learns an offensive move from Hakeem. but i think Dwight is fool's gold. He brings too much baggage and it remains to be seen if he'll ever recover from the injury.
Personally, i dont think he is the best center in the league.
