View Full Version : BREAKING: Darren Collison signs with LA for 2 year deal
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo 2 minutes ago
PG Darren Collison gets 2-year deal with Clippers using portion of mid-level exception with players option in second season, source tells Y!
what you thought the Lakers? :lol
DC reunited with CP3 as a backup and back in his LA stomping grounds. This probably means Billups wont be resigned, which is good. I think his playing days are over. He is probably more useful as an assistant or mentor for younger players.

Knew it was coming. No one else wanted him for a starting job, and hes played great behind cp3 in the past.

Collison is an outstanding backup. It's unfortunate that the Lakers didn't nab him.

Damn the Clippers are stacked. Anything less than a Finals appearance (being nice) is a failure. And this time CP3 won't get a pass unless he puts up monster numbers. Oh and how could I forgot, Lakers LOST!:pimp:

:lol Good call. Other players are leaving roughly 30 mill on the table to not play with the chucker.

Damn the Clippers are having an awesome offseason. I still don't think they can beat the Thunder or Spurs, but they're right up there. If they only had a better center than DeAndre Jordan.

Doc is going to work with the bigs defensively in the offseason. This upcoming season is bound to be his best. He's got to get those damn free throws down though.

Landry would have been better.
I wish that we could have gotten him too, but he would've had to taken a pay cut. Money is too important to him.
I'm not dissatisfied at all though that we got Collison. Great backup. Makes the Bledsoe trade ingenious.

He'll be solid as a 15 minute backup.
I mean, I'd play him at the 4 over Odom :oldlol:

Several. What's your point? Collison still almost made 50% of his shots. Statistically he had a better year than Eric Bledsoe, and we got a steal for him at less than 2mil. Soooooo....

The reason why I said "only" is because I figured he would go for a little bit higher than that.
And his shooting percentages look good. But he just has no basketball brains at all. Javele McGee may have better basketball IQ than Collison. He really is that bad at making decisions.

How is Collison better than Blake? And how do people think we are going to get rid of Blake.......?
Wasn't going to work out either way but I saw Collison on the Mavs....straight up garbage - worse than Blake.
All the haters can eat d1ck. Good we didn't grab him. Blake doesn't know how to finish at the rim but he's the better point guard + a better 3pt shooter IMO. Defense is a toss up.

Rick Carlisle might not trust young players but:
Darren Collison was benched in favor of Mike James. And the Mavs actually got better the last part of the year because of that move.

Ugh, Am I the only one who sees "X signs with LA" and automatically think Lakers? This is gonna take some getting used to. Solid backup tho who can provide some servicable spot-starts if CP3 needs a game or 2 off. Nice pickup but probably doesn't swing Clips' ceiling one way or other.

I forgot stats is the end of all arguments....
Do you really want to debate who atm is a better PG? Because it's pretty clear to me. Despite what numbers have to say. In terms of running the point and performing your role Blake is better. Better decision maker, better passer, better 3pt shooter. Impact wise, better.
And to be on record: I don't like Steve Blake. Have said it before, will not shy away to say it again.

May not be the end of all, but it is pretty telling when one players best career stat is worse than another players worst.
I've watched both of these guys, extensively, and I would take Darren over Steve any of the week, especially in a backup capacity.

I'll give Collison the ability to collapse the offense and finish at the rim + speed as clear cut advantages. Of course going forward age will kick-in which diminishes Blake's ability to defend as well as an overall decline in his game. But right now strictly speaking of roles and the position itself (PG) Collison is not better.
I can agree to disagree.

Collison has all the tools to be a better player than Blake, but he's been underwhelming since leaving New Orleans. Seriously when you team starts Mike James over you, you should seriously be questioning your existence. Maybe he just hasn't found the right fit to reach his full potential, but actual impact wise I can't honestly say he's that much better than Blake.

I never liked Mayo or Collison.
Mavs will take Billups as old and injury prone for vet minimum.
Calderon is already a step up from Collison. He dissected the Lakers.

People making slightly more of a big deal about it than they should though. He really is nothing more than a nice backup for us.

He's good for a backup. Tries to do too much when starting.

He is terrible as a starter. Dirk had to point with his hand to let Collison know were to pass. It went so far that he lost his starting job to Mike James.
His stats are good, but his ability to run the point is just terrible. A good backup signing.

Clippers went berserk so far during this offseason, they have upgraded big time overall and actually have a line up far better built for the playoffs (not the regular season) than in the previous couple of season's with CP3.
