Eh, I don't really like the terms overrated/underrated since different people value things differently. If we do choose to use them though, I think the following are true in general:
lilblingy

1. Kobe (He is not the GOAT, second GOAT, or top 5.)
2. Jordan (He is the GOAT but a lot of people will have you believe that he was perfect and no one else in history is close to him. I'm talking pure basketball skills here, not fame.)
3. Kevin love
4. Blake Griffin
5. Lin (A lot of people see him for what he is now but that linsanity shit was too extreme. I bet you there are still people in china that considers him a star.)
6. Rondo (Good player, great defense, hustles but some of his stats are padded and he is not the best PG in the game.

Perhaps Reggie Miller & Elton Brand, but the others guys seem solid to me. To each his own though, there aren't really any right or wrong answers with this thread's question.
Steve Nash. Particularly during his "MVP" seasons. A complete farce. Dude won an League MVP putting up 15/11. :facepalm :facepalm

Kobe by everyone who doesn't understand that basketball is a team sport
Vince by everyone who thinks dunks count for more than 2 points
Iverson by everyone who thinks being short should give you some kind of handicap
Nash by everyone who knows bball is a team sport, but still hasn't figured out that defense is more important than offense
Rondo by everyone who thinks playing good team ball is simply racking up assists

Supposedly they actually are doing/considering that in North Korea.
Michael Jordan. He has a strong case as the greatest, but he's a cult of personality.
A cult of personality arises when an individual uses mass media, propaganda, or other methods, to create an idealized and heroic public image, often through unquestioning flattery and praise.[1] Cults of personality are usually associated with dictatorships. The sociologist Max Weber developed a tripartite classification of authority; the cult of personality holds parallels with what Weber defined as 'charismatic authority'.
A cult of personality is similar to hero worship, except that it is established by mass media and propaganda. However, the term may be applied by analogy to refer to adulation of religious or non-political leaders.
While the cult of personality generally applies to the enhancement and promotion of a political or religious doctrine, it stands to reason that it is also asserted in everyday situations where popularity is used to advocate conformity to philosophies and lifestyles, even products and attitudes by way of peer pressure and herd mentality.
Andgar for example, he thinks that rookie Jordan is better than prime LeBron/prime Kobe. He also said that current, 50 year old Jordan could drop 50 points in an NBA game today. Some of these Jordan mythologists make it seem like Jordan never missed a shot or lost a game.
People often put Jordan up on a pedestal and are under this illusion that he is untouchable and by far and away the clear, undisputed greatest. He's ascribed God-like qualities at times by his biggest fans, and to them Jordan being the greatest is an irrefutable fact, and not just their opinion.
Now if someone thinks Jordan is the GOAT that's fine, he certainty has a strong case, but there isn't this unquestionable line between Jordan and the rest of the all-time great players that the media has made, and it's a shame that these careers aren't getting the respect they deserve. The GOAT title in basketball is actually closer and tighter than in any other major North American sports (other than NFL because of all the different positions), but you wouldn't know it.

WC teams that made it above the 8th or 7th spot without a quality frontcourt (00-10) = 3 or 4
EC teams that made it above the 8th or 7th spot without a quality frontcourt (00-10) = a billion

That's what I'm saying :oldlol:
He's been overlooked his whole career. He averaged 30/7/5 in a season, led a team to a title, averages 25/5/5 for his career and people still rank players like Joe Dumars and Reggie Miller over him.
Wade is the one player that ISN'T overrated.

idk how pierce or allen were overrated...those dudes were never talked about...if anything they were the most underrated superstars...pierce had an old man game that nobody really liked even though he could sh!t on anyone offensively and allen played in small markets during his whole prime/peak plus he was such a good shooter that it overshadowed the fact he had a solid all around game

The best argument against Jordan is the moronic stance that he should've won in the 80s in spite of minimal support.

A big man who put 17 points and 10 rebounds is an average player.
A point guard who put 17 points and 10 assists on 48%FG is the third best player in the league.

Wade. Only 4 elite seasons for his entire career. 0 MVP's. Never the best player in the league. Horrible longevity/durability. Just had one of the worst post-seasons in history for a star level player. No jumper. Destroys his teams spacing. Is seemingly always injured. Has made no adjustments in his game to counteract aging.
Yet people think he's top 20 all-time/top 3 SG all-time.

Shaq who averaged 13 and 10? We aren't talking about a prime Shaq who averaged 38/16 in the Finals. Also, GP? You are dumb. GP averaged 3/2/2 on 37% and played only 22 minutes a game.
While you're at it, don't forget about how about how Shaq carried Wade past the Pistons in '05 after Wade got injured.
It's a surprise that the Heat even made the playoffs in '09 and '10, with the team that they had.
We have people who rate Iverson and T-Mac over Wade on this board. Players who haven't won shit and are as one dimensional as they come. Yet, you think Wade is overrated? LMAO! 25/6/5 on 50% over 10 seasons. 3 rings and 1 FMVP. Would've been 4 and 2 if Lebron didn't choke in '11.

How about a career average of 25/6/5 on 50% (10 years), a 23/5/5 in the '12 Finals, 20/4/5 in this years Finals, 27/7/5 in '11 Finals, carrying a team of scrubs to the playoffs in '09 and '10? Only 4 great games and a scoring title?
