Is it Bird? Allen? Miller? Nash? Or who?

These are just picks off the top of my head...it could be a hand full of other guys too.

Bird: .496 FG%, .376 3P%, .886 FT%, .564 TS%
Allen: .452 FG%, .401 3P%, .894 FT%, .580 TS%
Miller: .471 FG%, .395 3P%, .888 FT%, .614 TS%
Nash: .491 FG%, .428 3P%, .904 FT%, .605 TS%

So who do you have? One of them? Or is it a different guy like Kerr, Peja, etc.?

Bird. There was no player with a better stroke than Bird. Clear cut best player of his era. Out of all current players I have to say LeBron's jumper is the sweetest thing I've witness in quite some time.

Best I've ever seen is Drazen when he was starting to hit his prime. Given it's been a while and I was pretty young then, so maybe my perception is a bit skewed.

Probably Bird though.

Give me the guy who made the most 3-pointers in NBA history.

Oh, for his career he shoots 89% from the line (2nd best in the group) and 40% from 3P? (2nd best again, but he has also shot way more than the #1 guy). Yeah...Give me that guy.

While Nash has the most impressive percentages, he did it not shooting nearly as much. All those other guys have averaged 24+ PPG in a season before, do they got those %'s on shooting a lot of shots, which I find more impressive.

Mark Price was never a better shooter than Ray Allen. a

Smoke117

Reggie Miller is overrated all time. His TS% is so high because he would kick his legs out when he shot and get to the line.(which is ironic as people have villified Wade as dirty for doing the same thing except driving...) That isn't Pure Shooting. Ray Allen was Reggie Miller with athleticism and a dribble. He never got to the line as much because he didn't flop...why do you think Reggie is so high on flops and saying it's a part of the game...the ****ing guy was the biggest flopper of the 90s on the offensive end.

Apparently Wade is one of the dirtiest players ever when Reggie was throwing out his legs his entire career....hilarious

LeBird
07-08-2013, 03:33 AM
I'd say its Bird since he shot as good as the best and was his team's main scoring threat and one of the best scorers of all time. Whereas none of the other players mentioned by the OP are close in that estimation. They're just great shooters who happened to be good scorers, but not someone who had the scoring to build a championship winning side around.

sundizz

This is easy

For a season will take/make the most threes in an efficient manner. This means can create and get off a three using screens, one on one, on the break, in the halfcourt etc: Steph Curry, runner up Peja/Glen Rice

If you want an all around shooter that can hits shots from everywhere, and is basically unguardable due to a combination of size, strength, shooting form, release style or quickness and general basketball skills: Larry Bird, runner up Dirk Nowitzki/Kevin Durant

If you already have a good team and want someone that for the most part is strictly a shooter, moves well without the ball, and is clutch. The perfect complementary player: Ray Allen, runner up Rip Hamilton/Reggie Miller

If you want someone that will only take efficient shots, the right shots, and hit them at unbelievable percentages: Steve Nash, runner up Mark Price/John Stockton.

Lou Hudson shot over 50% three times during his prime primarily as a jump-shooter averaging 25 PPG each time he did it.

He also averaged 27 PPG on 48% shooting and this was before the 3PT line.

why is lebron mentioned in this thread?

:oldlol:

Is this a serious comment?

LeBron has improved his stroke to new levels. He has by far the best stroke in the game, and is only 2nd to Bird Alltime as a pure shooter.

He's posted 55%fg and 40%3pt this past season alone.

Harison
07-08-2013, 01:14 PM
Bird, some others may have a slightly higher efficiency but people forget they do it at much lower volume. If lets say Nash would try to average 30 PPG, his efficiency would go down the drain, same with Miller, Ray, etc.

Let anyone do this, then we can talk about who is better

Bird '88 - 29.9 PPG, 52.7% FG, 41.4% 3PT, 91.6% FT

Its no contest, any decent shooter can have great efficiency with low-volume scoring, NONE other than Bird could do it at fantastic % while carrying the team with 30 PPG.

Then we have clutchness. Sure Ray and Reggie were great, but not Bird-great.
