5 Championships
30,000 + points
Third Greatest scorer in NBA history
2 Gold medals
Doesn't that make you mad knowing that no matter how much you hate him, how much you use stats like Per and WS etc, that he's still one of the greatest of all time? How many top 10 of all time players have that on their resume? Two... MJ and Kareem. Yet somehow Kobe is just barely a top 10 player of all time  .... K

I've never heard that brought up in a real life discussion about Kobe/NBA in general. Never heard the "Kobe got carried" argument in real life either. That seems to be strictly an ISH/online thing.
It's weird, because all of the LBJ fans I know in real life actually like Kobe. Then you come on ISH and most of the Lebron fans here hate him.

False.
Kobe is currently top 5-7 when you take into account: championships, accolades (Finals MVPs, MVPs, All NBA Team selections, All-Star selections, etc), statistical accomplishments, memorable performances/plays, skill-level, longevity, fame, etc.
Not to mention that Kobe is the greatest LAKER of all time. A franchise that has like 7 players in the top 15 players of all time. (Kobe, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Shaq, West, Baylor)
:applause:
Only players in the Top 10 who's overall NBA resume is currently, inarguably better than Kobe's are Jordan and Kareem. (Who I have as 1A and 1B respectively in my Top 10 list)
Kobe will most likely end up somewhere in the top 3-5 when all is said and done.
And this isn't some media-induced fabrication. The greatest players of all time have said as much. Barkley has Kobe in the 5-6 spot. Dr. J said Kobe is Top 5 all time. Most of the Laker greats (including Magic, Kareem, West, etc.) have said Kobe is the greatest Laker ever. Jordan has said that Kobe is the only one that has warranted the comparisons to him. Bird picked Kobe as the guy he would have on his team from the current crop of players, and the only one that could start on the original dream team. And so on and so on. I'd rather take these ex-player/all-time greats opinion on the matter than some random dude typing biased hate on a keyboard on a bball msg board.

Anyone can get as good as Kobe if you base your life on being a copy cat. Any other player watch every key game Jordan ever played in and then spend countless hours trying to mimic his play style? Every single advantage from medical to technological playing in a new era and he still couldn't out do Jordan. Now that is just plain sad to watch someone try that damn hard and still come up short.
At least he didn't give a ring to Shawn Marion tho....

It is. To me Kobe is the best player I've ever seen play basketball (i was born in 1998, bite me). The kind of shots he made, owning my team in the playoffs. I used to be a big Kobe hater, but it seems like I can finally recognize his skill and greatness.

Jordan was naturally athletically superior to Kobe and had freakishly bigger hands. No amount of modern medicine and technology can make up for god-given. Even guys like Carter, McGrady, Wade, etc are superior athletically to Kobe. But Kobe worked harder to push what he had to the limits.

How past players are remembered is always an interesting topic two me. Things get complicated by the player not being in the light while others are shinning, and also by new kids who never saw the player play having a stronger voice.
Jason Kidd was an amazing point guard, yet the new kids when comparing him to other point guards latch on to his FG % and don't let go from it. The person gets a tunnel vision where every great thing about the player gets completely ignored, except for the flaw they can latch on to. And with that tunnel vision and just wanting to win an argument, they will never come close to knowing players they never saw, but will definitely have an opinion that they consider to be the right answer.
I was thinking about this yesterday about Anderson Silva. That no matter how great you are, how close to perfect you are, a person who doesn't like you is going to find one thing and run away with it.

You mean all "casual" fans will remember. Students of the sport will remember everything about Kobe, the good and the bad.
No they wont. What bad do you remember about drexler? D robinson? Payton? Pippen? Wilt??? (Before the google searches???). They all had negative things that people didnt like, bad shots, horrible games etc... the longer retired the less bad u remember.
in 15 years, there will never be a conversation had about 6/24. Mattrr of fact they may only remember that he had 23 and 16 not the bad percentage

I am a kobe fan and have no problem with lebron passing him. At the end of the day, they will both be too 5 players. The only players that have a lock on their spots is Jordan and kareem. Magic, wilt, and russell, have a case but kobe and lebron will be superior when its said and done

When its all said and done, Kobe will be remembered as Jordan lite.
And that is NOT a diss.
If you think abou the hundreds of players, he may be the closest to MJ in some ways.
Bron IS indeed a unique player of sorts, he shouldn't be compared to any other player in history. Not Magic, not Bird, not MJ, not Malone, not anybody. Bron is as unique as Barkley was.
