View Full Version : Who's on the Wall Wagon for 2014?

Other than Paul George, the 2010 Draft Class has been a letdown but now after 3 seasons I think John Wall, the #1 pick overall, will finally rise.

The Wizards won 29 wins with Wall missing 33 games. They were a decent homecourt team if I remember correctly.

They have a decent roster, no stands out but with the Celtics and Bucks likely missing the playoffs, it opens up two spots. Cleveland is the runaway favorite to take one of those spots. I think Washington has a good chance at the other spot.

His career high vs Grizzlies last season. :applause:

I'm good!

Not really a Wall fan.

Feel like he's a bit overrated especially when he was in college

Wall's ceiling is not too high. He seems to have confidence issues.

When it comes to discussions about wall's impact, i generally like to post this little piece

Over the final 49 games of last season, The Wizards outscored their opponents 95.6 to 94.5.
Over the first 33 games, the Wiz got outscored 97.2 to 89.2. It's not a coincidence that John Wall was on the court for those final 49 games and inactive for the first 33.

so yea, im on board.

With that roster I see them making the playoffs in the East cause it's so weak.

I say 8th or 7th seed.

Hard to live up to your expectation when your supporting act isn't that good. Plus, when they drafted him the Wizards were getting a 360 makeover incl new owner and all.

They did a lot better than what was expected of them last year. Healthy Wall should definitely get them about a dozen more wins, which would be good enough to hunt for #8.

I just looked up their record with Wall playing from last season.

23W-25L....and that's after missing 3 months + training camp, preseason, etc.

wall has to get his team to the playoff just like kyrie has to get his team there.

if these guys dont, i will consider them extremely overrated. i have more faith in wall getting them there.

Wall is going to be Steve Francis part 2 when his athleticism declines. It aint gonna be pretty.

I think Wall takes it to the next level this season. It is pretty clear that he was starting to find his game at the pro level after he got his legs back under him last year.

Webster will start over Porter.

Unless Porter is a way better shooter than I'm led to believe. Web is one of the best 3 point shooters in the league. Need that spacing for Wall.

Also The Bullets are better than the Cavs:durantunimpressed:

Dion/Kyrie v. Beal/Wall

Hopefully we get to watch these two backcourts go at it in the playoffs for years to come.

Very excited to see Wall start a season healthy. A lot of people are talking down about him without watching him play more than 1 or 2 games

If he and Beal stay healthy, they could be pretty good. Otto Porter is a good piece too.

Kyrie is better than him tbh. and the Cavs have a better team around Kyrie. but yeah, Wall is legit too. the Wizards started winning when he came back and it wasn't weak teams they were defeating but playoff teams as well.

I live in Raleigh so I'll always be a fan. I'm thinking he'll be an all-star this year and will be surprised if he doesn't pull the Wizards into the playoffs.

Completely agree with this. Here's what I posted a few games before the season ended in the Wall vs Irving vs Lillard thread >>> http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=8439307

[QUOTE=2LeTTeRS]Correlation does not equal causation. Wall was the the biggest piece that came back when the Wiz started getting hot, but he was by no means the only piece.

Check this out ----

Nene: injured b/t 10/30/2012 to 11/19/2012 | team record w/ no Nene 0-9 | team record w/ Nene 26-34

-- Both Nene and Ariza played in games against Atlanta [L on 11/21/12], Charlotte [L on 11/24/12], Portland [W on 11/28/12], New York [L on 11/30/12], and Miami [W on 12/04/12] | record 2-3 --

Ariza: injured b/t 12/07/2012 and 01/06/2013 | team record w/ no Ariza 2-15 | team record w/ Ariza 25-31

-- Both Nene and Ariza healthy for Miami game [L on 01/06/13] and against OKC [W on 01/07/13] | record 1-1 --

Wall: returned from injury on 01/12/2013 | team record w/ no Wall 5-28 | team record w/ Wall 24-22

-- Both Nene and Ariza healthy w/ no Wall record 3-4

I've been on it ever since Wall's play last season. I even considered him the MVP based upon the team's record both with, and without, him.

Kyrie is better than him tbh. and the Cavs have a better team around Kyrie. but yeah, Wall is legit too. the Wizards started winning when he came back and it wasn't weak teams they were defeating but playoff teams as well.

Over the last 24 games of the season Wall averaged 24 and 8 on 49 percent shooting. He also rebounds the ball better than Kyrie and he's better defensively than Kyrie. I also disagree that Kyrie has better pieces around him. The Cavs project to be very good offensively, but hideously bad defensively, especially if AV misses time. Every one of their core pieces has defensive limitations while the Wizards are actually the opposite. They were already a top 8 defensive team last year and Wall, Beal, Porter, Glen Rice jr all project as above average two way players and that gives them the edge to me (in addition to the fact that on the interior they have an above average defensive center in Okafor and a long PF in Nene, and the fact that their pieces seem to fit better. Wall and Beal are perfect backcourt mates, Porter fits the group like a glove, Webster is a perfect compliment to Wall, Nene is a great passer that can create for himself and find shooters, of which the Wizards have plenty etc.).

I'm still very much on the Wall wagon OP. he was completely shitting on the league once he got his legs under him last year and threw up a bunch of monster games. I think he's going to open a lot of eyes this season and people are going to be like, so that's what all the hype was about coming out of college. Physically he's a monster (6'4 pg when he came into the league and the team thinks he's grown since then, 6'9 wingspan, 40 inch vertical blazing speed etc.), he sees the floor brilliantly and he burnished a lot of the flaws in his game since college.

I think a lot of the people who think Kyrie is clearly better will change there minds next season. I think right now it's pretty much a toss-up with Wall pulling ahead next year.
