View Full Version : lebron james - offensively overrated?

what exactly can lebron do besides bully his way to the basket, shoot threes and use his size and speed to his advantage? what skill sets does he actually possess? what second, third and fourth options does he have when driving to the basket besides passing the ball? where are the up & unders, spins, half spins and ball fakes? where are the fundamentals? what exactly is so impressive about his offensive game?

What matters is the result. If somebody scores 25+ ppg at 45% and the other scores 25+ ppg at 50% I don't care how much artistry and skill is involved versus raw physical talent. I'd take the more effective one. Thank you very much.

His overall offensive game has really improved the last couple of years. He's hitting his jumper more consistently. Has a little post game now, which he never had his first 7 years. As far as bull rushing to the rim, what is wrong with that? He's bigger, stronger, faster, quicker, etc than everybody else. Why not use those gifts to your advantag?

The guy is a beast and he's getting better. That's a scary thought

It isn't that scary considering his athleticism has already drastically declined. 3-4 years from now I can see him being sort of like a Ron Artest.

He puts the ball in the basket at an above average clip. That's all that matters. Maybe the And 1 mixtape tour is more up to your speed, OP

How you do it doesn't matter, all that matters is effectiveness/results, Lebron is one of the GOAT offensive players.

If you're saying his limited skill set hurts him in certain situations against certain teams (disappearing in the finals), then that's a different story.

Is Monta Ellis better offensively than Shaq was because he scored in more ways?

So he's 3rd in PPG in NBA HISTORY and he's overrated offensively lmao. I wonder how good Kobe is offensively who is like 10th or someshit. ****ing Kobe-tards.

Let me get this straight, you think that LeBron James, a career 27 PPG scorer, someone who just shot 56.5% from the field and 40% from three this past season, someone who now has a consistent postgame, someone who is one of the best passers in the league, is offensively overrated, and you expect us to believe you? Good luck.

LeBron had higher %EFG on shots from over 10 feet from the basket this season than your "superior scorers and shooters" like Kobe, Durant or Melo.

I think he is all right.

where are the fundamentals?

Literally everywhere, resulting in MVPs & Championships/FMVPs etc.... anything more specific you would want to see?

what exactly is so impressive about his offensive game?

Everything i guess.... maybe not FTs...

Had fun? Glad i could oblige you seeing Lebron do something for the first time in your life...

what exactly is so impressive about his offensive game?
the fact that he can put up points at such an efficient clip despite being the total focus of opponent defenses.

LeBron has more offensive skills than Shaq, who's arguably the greatest scorer of all time, a player who literally couldn't be stopped at his peak. This game isn't about looking pretty. Aesthetics are subjective anyway.

How is dropping 81 with style subjective?

or Jordan dropping 69?

His footwork is awful and when he slows down (can't happen soon enough) he won't be able to create space for his overrated and awkward jumper.

He's going to look like he did against the Spurs (the first 6 games).

Two examples where it's not.Scoring 69, or 81 points is not subjective, but the degree to which they did it "with style" (the only relevant part of your example) is entirely subjective.

I don't really like LeBron, but hating on someone the whole time just cause they're a threat to your idol is really sad

Yeah he still seems clumsy with the basketball at times. At this stage of his career I don't see it being fixable.

It will be interesting to how age affects his game now that he is headed to age 30.

Lebron FG% dropped from 56% in the regular season to 45% in the nba finals. Even if 45% is not that bad, 11% is a huge drop off.

So his high efficiency is padded because his game is built for regular season domination.

This video is one of the examples of his lack of moves:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgAbo6IJB_A

Last minute of an elimination game in the nba finals, you have a clear fast break, and instead of trying to do a fake (aka Wade) or behind the back or anything, you just run into your defender hoping for a foul being called and lose the ball. You can give the credit to danny green for the good defensive play, but lebron had no business in not scoring in this play.

I don

27 Ppg on near 57% shooting, 40% from three, well above average midrange shooter, GOAT level athleticism and court vision, elite ball handler.

He's 6'8 and doesn't need to do crazy Allen Iverson style up-and-under layups to get the ball over a 6'11 center.

That should be a good thing, not a bad thing.

He is a great offensive player... maybe his only fault is that he cares a lot about he FG% so he will pass on shots to keep it high, otherwise he is one of the best offensive players in the league.
