Sources told ESPN.com that Howard and his representatives, in a handful of meetings with Lakers officials before he became a free agent July 1, strongly suggested that the center would have a difficult time re-signing with Los Angeles if Bryant stayed with the franchise beyond the 2013-14 season, the final year of his current contract.

"How can it be Kobe's team and Dwight's team?" one source said. "It was about the passing of the torch."

As an offshoot of those discussions, sources said, Howard's camp at one point asked the Lakers whether they were at least considering releasing Bryant through the league's amnesty provision, since Bryant's return date from Achilles tendon surgery remained in question.

Dwight is a cold blooded summa bitch. :oldlol:

Dwight is the perfect example of a player who thinks he's way better than he actually is. He wasn't even the best player on his team after Kobe went down :oldlol: Pau played better against the Spurs.

Reminds me of when this asshole asked to fire SVG and then pretended as if he had no idea what the media was talking about when confronted about it. Guy is a sneaky mofo. :oldlol:

"Hey remember that guy who led his team to victory against my team in the finals a few years back?" "Fire him and keep me!!!"

And if the Lakers had any balls they would have done it

Hope being loyal to a washed up Kobe is worth tanking your franchise

I think cowardly is a better way to describe him.

A smart move. Even the hardcore kobe nut riders were willing to consider this 30 MILLION + luxury tax move. I wouldn't be surprised if the front office wanted to hold off the amnesty for Kobe to see how he or if he starts the season. Kobe being selfish as he is probably pushed to amnesty Artest's puny 7 million so the amnesty would be wasted and no chance for it to be used on him.

Dwight > Lakers Front Office

Could the Lakers have amniested Kobe, signed Dwight and Paul and then still had cap room to woo LeBron or Melo in 2014?

If so, they are stupid for not doing so.

They cut bait on Shaq when he was about 34/35, Kobe should understand it's just a business. Go sign in Chicago or something.
