View Full Version : Do you drink water warm?

All my life until recently I absolutely had to have drinking water cold, to the point where if I was very thirsty and there was no cold water or ice handy, I'd wait for the water to chill in the fridge or ice to freeze. Why are people so programmed? Now it doesn't even matter. I'll guzzle a pitcher with my supper.
Do I prefer cold water? Of course, but it's not that big of a deal.

I drink a lot of room temperature water. Is that what you mean by "warm"? I can't recall ever heating up water to drink though that is good for your innards.
I dont think its about being programmed dude...
Cold water IS more refreshing... anything cold is more refreshing lol...

My point was that warm/room temperature water wasn't even a consideration. That's what I meant by 'programmed'

room temperature fluids / food... that's the healthiest way to drink / eat in the absence of pathogen considerations.
the more you cool or heat substances, the more work your body has to do bringing it to the mean body temp... and therefore the more system shock and system energy expended. through your stomach, specifically.
obviously that's not the only reason to consume chilled / warmed, but it has an effect. if you're sick, the effect can become magnified IME.

chinese ppl especially those who's always been living in china, always have the concept warm(as in heated) water is healthier than cold/iced water, better for the stomach? i never bought that but still wonder if that hoolds any truth? in americca noone drinks hot water but theyre just fine

I read that this is a good thing though. You can lose 5 lbs a year by drinking cold water just by the extra energy your body has to exert to warm it up.
Either way the benefit/drawback is pretty marginal.

I prefer room temperature water as far as a thirst quencher.
I will drink cold water too cool down but will drink room temperature after the cool down.

well that's fully consistent with what i've read. i.e., the principle can be used in different ways.
Either way the benefit/drawback is pretty marginal.
it's marginal, but just going by my experience, it IS a stressor. for example when i'm in an air conditioned restaurant drinking the ice water they typically bring, it can sometimes be quiet unpleasant. i almost have to battle my body to get it down to quench my thirst, and one thing i've learned is that noticing what the body and mind are feeling is a really good principle for maintaining health.

I get water with no ice in air-conditioned restaurants. Sometimes it's still pretty cold without the ice, but it helps.
Cold water is great for hot days and warm tea is good for cold days though to normalize body temp. That refreshment feeling is a sign that it's doing your body good.

I'll take water cold when I can...but if it's room temperature i'll stilll have it.

Are you implying that tap water bacteria levels are affected by how you turn the handle on your faucet?

Definitely drink room temp water, straight out of the kitchen sink faucet. i don't like my drinks cold in general.

I prefer cold, but when I'm in Southeast Asia I drink it at room temperature, because I have no choice. There is not air conditioning or fridges up in the mountains.

I'm fine with tap water as cold as it will come out. I can drink room temp water, but prefer it cool. Doesn't have to be ice cold, cool is fine.
Only drink warm/hot water when I have a sore throat or a cold.

jeez all these water preferences are pretty prim and proper here
anybody live in detroit? where thousands of households continue to have their taps cut off every week?
that doesn't sound fun
but dehydrated or no, the onus is on them to better their lives. they should pull up those bootstraps and start their own water company! lazy immigrants
