It is true that he is underrated, I was thinking of placing him on my list, but I couldn't find an appropriate spot for him sadly.

5. Westbrook

* going out on a limb with #6 and #7, assuming they're back and close to pre-injury form

6. Rose
7. Dwight
8. Curry
9. Harden
10. Wade

I'm in wait-and-see mode with Kobe, because he's coming off a very serious injury. I didn't exclude him from my top 10 because I'm "hating", I just want to see him play a few games first. And before branslowski or some other Kobe fanboy jumps down my throat for having Dwight and Rose in my top 10...they're both much younger than Kobe, Rose will have had 18 full months to recover, and Dwight was showing signs of being his old self after the All-Star break last year.

And I think next year may be the year we see Wade actually fall-off quite a bit in the regular season, but not so much that he won't be a top 10 player. He was a borderline top 5 player for a good chunk of the regular season last year before getting hurt towards the end of the 27-game win streak.

This forum seriously overrate Kyrie Irving and CP3.

CP3 is nowhere near of being the 3rd best player in the league, and kyrie irving will be a third year guy with no playoff games leading a shitty lottery team. And in only 2 years playing he had more injuries than Lebron in his entire career.

Rose is also very overrated. The guy is coming from almost 2 years off, and i think it will take some time for him find his old self.

In my opinion the top players next year, not necessarily in this order, will be lebron, durant, kobe, carmelo anthony and dwyane wade.

Why is everyone is just guessing that Duncan is going to go through a big old man crash. That gangster put up 18/10 on 35mpg in the playoffs.

If anybody on the Spurs is going to crash it's going to be Manu after that long playoff run (which he sucked in) and he even himself said he was tired.

Also it's laughable how Kyrie is criminally underrated on here. He's going to have a good team next year.

Kyrie is the most overrated player in the league. Hes more one dimensional than Melo, Poor passer, AWFUL Defender, turn over prone. There's at least 7 PGs that are better than him. Once you get over all the hype about him being Lebrons replacement and a #1 overall pick, he's just a poor mans Gilbert Arenas.

Being the most clutch player in the league, arguably having the best handles and being an elite level scorer at 21 years old is not a gimmick. You'd be kidding yourself if you did not see legendary potential in the guy once he first stepped on the court

Now with a good team around him and a decent coach, he's going to be a lock top 15 player.

Kyrie is nonwhere near the Peirce, Johnson, Durant, Duncan of the league who in the clutch shot a higher percentage than Kyrie and have been clutch in the playoffs where games actually matter.

His ball handling skills are overrated. Williams and Paul both used to do flashy moves with the ball, but as they grew they realized that it was ineffective and a waste of energy. Those two can do anything Kyrie can.

Monta Ellis is another small, unathletic elite scorer and I would honestly rather have him run an offense than Kyrie. (More assists with less turnovers.)

Poor mans Gilbert Arenas. At least Arenas played defense and passed.

If I needed someone to run my offense and distribute, I would take him over Kyrie. Monta averages more assists with less turnovers than Kyrie, that's just a fact. And it shows how overrated Kyrie is, when a player like Monta, who is criticized for chucking and not being a real PG, is actually better at filling the PG role than Irving.

Everything I said was a fact. He's not statistically as clutch as the guys I mentioned. Williams and Paul both used to show off with their handles, but now they realize that it is not a part of running a good offense and keeping your coaches and team mates happy. Monta Ellis does average more Assists with less turnovers. Gilbert Arenas was head and shoulders above Kyrie.

i have no idea what kobe will be like next year, but im gonna assume he misses at lesat half the season, so thats just not enough time to justify beong top 20

i think rose should have a good year

paul george, kyrie irving and john wall are the breakout stars of the season

i feel bad about having parker so low, after the year he just had, but hes just turned 31, hes gonna start to slow down a little, and there are a bunch of good young players poised to make a big leap next year.

and i know we have been expecting timmy to fall off every year now, for about 5 seasons, but he has to at some point, become a role player, and i think next year will be the year. he'll step back a little, and allow kawhi become more of a focal point.

He's somewhere around 20...

He does very little defensively,... not much on the boards or with passing.

He's basically just a streak shooter... Some nights he looks like a top 10 player on others he looks like about the 35th best player.

Kyrie is nonwhere near the Peirce, Johnson, Durant, Duncan of the league who in the clutch shot a higher percentage than Kyrie and have been clutch in the playoffs where games actually matter.

Have you actually looked at the clutch stats or are you just talking out of your @ss (ie trolling)?

http://www.82games.com/1213/CSORT11.HTM

Last year, Kyrie was the best in the league in clutch scoring and shot 46.7 percent on those buckets per 48 minutes. That's a FG% far higher than Durant (39.2%), Pierce (34.3%) or Johnson (40.0%). Duncan shot 47.8% from the field, but scored less than half as many points.

Btw, only 10% of Kyrie's points in the clutch were assisted, which is a lower percentage than anyone not named Chris Paul in the top 25. That means he wasn't being fed open looks, but was creating shots.

Kyrie's 6.7 assists per 48 in the clutch was 5th highest of any player in the Top 20 in scoring in the clutch.

Did I mention he was 20 years old for most of the season? No one that young is even in the same stratosphere with him on this list.

Kyrie's highlights from his 59 games last season...

To put it simply, you lose.

Joe Johnson shot over 70% on game winners. Peirce shot over 50%. These guys also have actually proven to make big shots in the playoffs where games actually matter instead of a game between two teams that will receive top 10 picks. It's also funny how you fail to mention that he is -20 in the clutch and is the league leader in turnovers in the clutch by an INCREDIBLY large margin, actually a DISGUSTINGLY large margin. Not to mention the dozens of other players that shoot a higher percentage than him in the clutch. Honestly, how can anyone claim he's the clutchest player in the league with all these things going against him.

To put it simply, YOU lose.

Changing your argument, eh? I guess you didn't bother to look at the numbers before formulating your weak argument, so it's time to abandon it for another incredibly weak argument.

What happened to the FG% in the clutch? No longer clinging to that one? :oldlol:

Duncan outplayed all in the playoffs and can bring it at will. He averaged some 19points, 13 rebounds, on 51% shooting with very low turnovers and great block and passing stats. He would've won the finals against the 2nd and 3rd best players in the NBA had Popovich not been such an idiot and bench him in the final minute when it is imperative that a defensive rebound be grabbed. Duncan was the only one consistently grabbing defensive rebounds for either team.

Wade is the next best player because he makes more timely baskets than Lebron and he's a better passer and gets way fewer turnovers and less mistakes in general. Also he usually spurs Miami runs. Especially in the Playoffs when it matters most. He's also a better overall shot blocker and rebounder for his position.

He puts up a lot of stats, mainly because he has the ball a lot in the games.
But he also makes a ton of mistakes late and is very streaky. His stacked team bails him out most of the time.

I mentioned FG% in the clutch and there are dozens of players that shot better than Irving. How is it a weak argument? Many players shoot better than him in the clutch, he leads the league in clutch turnovers by a DISGUSTINGLY LARGE margin, he is -20 in the clutch etc. There is absolutely no basis for him being the clutchest player in the league. Anyone that thinks that Irving, who has only played on bottom 5 teams is clutchest player in the league even though the stats say he isnt, is dillusional.

Tell me one thing I said that was wrong. Kyrie is an overrated, one dimensional, turnover prone scorer who adds nothing to his team other than scoring. At least Melo offers rebounding along with his scoring.
Kyrie is a better and more efficient scorer then Monta. His passing will get better, and he hasn't hit hid ceiling yet. If you'd take Monta over Kyrie you're just not a smart person.

No one in their right mind thinks that Monta is a better player than Kyrie. I said that Monta is a better PG than Kyrie because of his larger assist numbers with less turnovers. Kyrie is the better player.

Of course he's going to get better, I just don't understand how anyone can put him in the top 10 players NOW, IMO hes barely a top 20 player right now considering his AWFUL defense and passing.

So damn dumb.

Irving plays better defense than Wall, Westbrook and JASON KIDD statistically. Just check Synergy for the stats. Irving playing poor defense is the worst falsehood on Insidehoops being spread in every damn Irving thread.

Getting flashy blocks is not everything in playing defense.

The best stat to judge defense is opponent PER, but only in certain situations. Kyrie Irving held opposing players to a 19 PER which is awful compared to guys like Williams and Rondo who held the opposition to 13 and 14 respectively when healthy. Obviously, there are other factors such as team defense, but in this case the Nets and Celtics were by no means good defensive teams last season. Despite not playing on good defensive teams, Williams and Rondo held opposing PGs to a much lower PER than Kyrie. Therefore, this plus the eye test indicate that Kyrie is not a good defender when opposing players are putting up all-star caliber numbers against him every night.

"My name is 3." - Dwyane Wade
And as for coming into this season, Wade should actually be healthy, not have a shifting kneecap like he did in the playoffs. By the way, my list contained heavy bias and shouldn't be taken into serious consideration. I couldn't help myself.

Wade had a pretty good regular season for being a lebron teamate, 21-5-5 on 52FG%. And that with poor first 2 months because he was coming from knee surgery. Miami only had the 27 game win streak because wade and lebron were both almost equally beasting in that stretch.

The 2011 season was an exception because miami had no bench and was a lebron iso or wade iso team, but no one will put stats like 25-6-6 playing with lebron james.

You judge a player for playing injured in the whole playoffs, but some guys like rose or irving can get the benefit of the doubt for not even playing in the playoffs or for not playing in almost 2 years.

Howard is another guy very overrated, got excuses he was hurt last season and didn

There is a disturbing lack of Kevin Love in these top 20 lists.

The top 2, in my opinion, are easy: LBJ and Durant. After that, things get incredibly murky with top players injured or coming off of injuries (Kobe, Dwight, Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Wade, Love, etc.), young and improving players who could potentially make "the leap" (George, Wall, Irving, etc.) and then the "usuals" (Carmelo, Dirk, Marc Gasol, Paul, etc.).

My list:

1. LBJ
2. Durant

And, in no order, 3-20 (I will include Kobe, just because I would not be shocked at all if he was in the opening night starting 5):

Kobe
Rose
Curry
Dwight
Carmelo
George
Paul
Kyrie Irvin
Harden
Marc Gasol
Westbrook
Rondo
Love
Wade
Dirk
Wall
Tony Parker
Brook Lopez

(If I had to pick my top 5, assuming EVERYONE of them is healthy: Lebron, Durant, Kobe, Rose, Westbrook)
