View Full Version : Is there a more underwhelming title in NBA history than Miami's in 2012-2013?
Doranku

I mean honestly...
-3 of the top 10 players in the Eastern Conference all on one team
-Zero 50 win teams played
-Best player faced was a third year Paul George
-Got taken to 7 games by Paul George and 12/8 Roy Hibbert :facepalm
-Were seconds away from losing in the finals to the ancient Spurs who only made the finals because they got lucky with injuries
-Nearly every other team in the league had a major injury besides the Heat
-Had the easiest first two rounds in NBA history due to competition/injuries
It's crazy, I've heard people call the Spurs an "all-time great team". Ya'll nikkas kidding me?
Led by retirement home Tim Duncan at a tender 37 years young, these are the same Spurs who were swept in the second round by Phoenix. Same Spurs who became only the 2nd team in NBA history to lose a 7-game series as a #1 seed. Same Spurs who choked and were backdoor swept by a young OKC team.
And all of that is neglecting to mention that arguably their most important player, Tony Parker, injured himself midway through the series. Or the fact that Manu Ginobili is absolutely DONE as a professional basketball player and completely sabotaged his team in 6/7 games of the series.
And please don't put on the injury charade for Wade. Being washed up isn't an injury.
why are laker fans so hurt by miami's success?

I don't care how you try and spin it, a shifting kneecap can't be good. Add 3 friggin' bone bruises in and you have a bonafide injury to say the least.

why are laker fans so hurt by miami's success?
Those fools seem to be hurt by any other team having success in the League, but are the first group to b!tch and and cry "weak era" for any other team winning more than one ring within the same decade.

So it's not insecurity when a poster constantly makes thread to undervalue a team's accomplishment. Most of the stuff the OP wrote are bs. You can say the same shit about Kobe's 2009 and 2010 rings. Garnett injured, Perkins injured, refs, Gasol carried Kobe, etc. And why is it that Lakers fans are the ones that are always making these thread? Simple answer. Insecurity and jealousy.

Most of the stuff OP wrote is the truth. LBJ/ fake Heat fans seeing it at as a diss is to be expected. I just look at it objectively and only find truth. I have said OP was an overreaction prima dona before - kinda, but he's saying nothing but the truth here. I wouldn't necessarily agree with the title - but it's definitely up there as one most underwhelming in modern history.
You wanna make a count and see which group of poster makes dumber threads - dissing a team accomplishment or Kobe Bryant?
How about a lifetime ban bet? Boy please you would lose at the first 30 pages of this forum if it goes that far. Tony's output alone is enough, if you include electric slide and thibsyou - all the same person - it's not even a contest.
Anyway, nothing more to say. Insecurity and jealousy fits here pretty well. Good luck OP.

I remember fake Heat fans, LBJ stans quitting on Lebron after game 5 if I remember. Making threads about it. I remember those threads carrying over with new ones flooding the forum before the third quarter of game 6 by LBJ fans, not Kobe stans
Now you're trying to explain numbers and bla bla bla. Irrelevant, even then the output of fake Heat fans, LBJ trolls greatly outpace that of Laker/Kobe fans in this forum greatly. Before the win, after the win, throughout the year, throughout last year, any year, any month since the 2012 Finals. You making that suggestion was stupid to say the least. Your post makes no sense. You don't think Kobe stans were making troll posts after winning the 2009 and 2010 championship? Or after the Heat lost in the Finals? You don't think most of the Lebron trolls would have left if they lost this year?
Anyway, you've gone off on a tangent. My point was that its mostly Lakers fans on this board that are insecure over the Heat's accomplishments. You won't see other fans constantly making posts to devalue the Heat's accomplishments, certainly not to the extent many Lakers fans do here. I don't want to group all Lakers fans in that category because there are a lot of cool Lakers fans here but you and the OP certainly belong in the category I'm talking about.
So we gon' act like LeBron AND Bosh didn't tweak their ankles severely in Game 4 @ Indiana, but they kept on playing through it? And :facepalm @ Wade's injury being cause he's washed up, ****ing idiot. :oldlol: Two can play this game.
Are the 2012-2013 Lakers the most underachieving super-team in NBA history?
- Were expected to have a better record than the 72-10 Bulls, failed miserably.
- Were expected to be the champions way before the season even started, almost missed the playoffs.
- They have a top 10 player for each position, for some, even top 5.
- One of the greatest offensive coaches ever.
- Few teams choked during the last few regular season games, they were lucky to make the playoffs.
- Got swept by the ancient Spurs.

You go off on a tangent every time you make a post son. The initial derail which was to me very obvious and which was easy to debunk was created by you. Your point is irrelevant, the facts remain the way they are. "Hypothetically" arguing is a kids game.
You could throw me in whatever category you chose. First rule of the book is to discredit the poster, person you argue with. Nothing new I haven't seen tried before - novice stuff. Even thou, then again, there is no sort of argument when the argument never had any base so I am in a predicament to understand any of your points or the relevance of them. I should have dismissed you as a straight up moron, like I have done surely in the past but paid you some of my time for nothing today. Well, I'm just happy that Jesus Christ, um, did not let me lose my teeth when I was 20 years old. 'Cause I was wondering, like, what if you kept your baby teeth until the age of 18 or 20, and then you lose 'em? That would look pretty bad. So I just think he's really brilliant that you lose your teeth when you're a baby rather than you lose them when you're, like, 30 or 20. That has nothing to do with your question, but that was definitely on my mind.
I was, um, just thinking about it. And I was just like, wow, what if I lost my teeth, like, today? And I'm 32. You know? And then my new teeth would grow back in. You know? I was just thinking about that. And I was like, that's really pretty brilliant; he actually thought about like people's image and, you know, persona and things like that. 'Cause you would be pretty ugly with no teeth at the age of 20, 18, you know? So not only did he build the world in seven days, seven nights, he also said, OK, let them lose their teeth early, rather than late.

Just leave it alone and several years down the line people will finally come out of their shells and admit openly that Heat had it easy.

Actually fool,
It isn't true.
The 1987 Lakers, who went thru the incredibly paltry Western Conference at the time faced two sub .500 teams on their way to an NBA Finals match up with the Celtics. And ironically, they are historically recognized as this all time great team despite the fact that they faced weak in conference competition.
Just goes to show you that 20 years from now, no one will ever remember who the Heat played, but the fact that they won. And only the fact that they won.
But by all means, you and the OP can continue on with your sore assholes. Don't let facts get in the way here.

They won...and essentially that is all that matters.
However, the fact that people still think this Heat team was as good as the previous two years is laughable to me. They slumped their way to the title and nearly lost to a Spurs team in which their supposed best player (Parker) had a brutal series. They faced extremely weak competition and didn't look dominant at all.
Clearly....12 Heat > 11 Heat >>>> 13 Heat

why do people always read a post from on person and conclude that its now an entire fan base thinks?

im pretty sure that Laker team is considered great because they had Magic Johnson, Kareem and James Worthy, all while being coached by Pat Riley. beating the Celtics in the finals is reason enough to acknowledge their greatness

as is beating this years Spurs...a team with 3 HoF players (2 of which had all-star seasons) and a HoF coach, which won 58 games this season and basically dominated the west coast playoffs by losing only 2 games in total prior to the championship series.

defeated in what? I wasn't wrong in saying the competition the Heat faced was weak. No one's said anything to counter that yet. Defeated? pfff. I didn't b1tch about how they won. All i said was that the OP is correct about the weak path and that he should stop making threads about it because insecure Heat and Lebron fans are just going to insult you, your team, and something about Kobe if all else fails.

- Got swept by the ancient Spurs.
nobody expected the Lakers to be better than the 96 bulls. thats just silly
if they were expected to be champions why were the heat favored to win the title going into the year?
top 10 player for each position? really? ron artest, top 10 player? and I dont know if you followed the nba last season but im pretty sure Gasol missed 2 months, nash missed 2 months, kobe tore his achillies. Im not sure why people just ignore the fact the team was ravaged by injuries. Lost Jordan Hill for the year. Dwight was coming off major back surgery and played most of the year with a torn labrum
they were lucky to make the playoffs because some other teams lost? thats retarded. And the Lakers finished strong, I believe something like 28-12 in the last 40.
yes, the lakers got swept by the Spurs while starting 2, d leaguers in the backcourt
I understand why people dont like the Lakers but you can at least try to be somewhat objective

the spurs were solid but they werent a great team by any stretch of the imagination. The team of hall of famers with the hall of fame coach just came off 5 straight years of not even making the finals and probably made the finals because of the Westbrook injury. Many, many people consider the 86 celtics to be the greatest team of all time. They were still a great team just one year later
09 and 10 titles are tainted by Perkins and KG's knee injuries as well. but funny how no Laker fans ever want to bring that up.

I was responding to the Celtics fan about 09 and '10... One finals in which Bynum didn't play at all and another in which he played through a ton of injuries. Meaning the Lakers very well might've three-peated if he was healthy.

we can play what-if's...Spurs missed finals opportunities because of injuries as well during those 5-years.
and lets not forget that this Miami team is three years in the Finals, and ona back-to-back championship run. that, in itself, it greatness.

Not to take away from the Heat. I think they are a very talented squad. Not on the level of the best teams ever, but still better than quite some championship teams, BUT they win by default. I think they(the '12 version much much more than the '13) could compete with the teams after the three peat Lakers and most of the 70s teams. The 90s Bulls, the 80s Lakers, the three-peat Lakers, the '67 '76ers, 60s Celtics and 80s Celtics are absolutely out of range imo.

That isn't a fair assessment. You would compare the Spurs to other finals teams of the last few years.
only the 09 Magic were worse over the last 10 years or so.

more/less agree...they have flaws that are widely shown during their runs but in the end, all those teams you mentioned are considered great teams (3peat Lakers, 70s teams, etc)
I wouldn't really go so far back to compare tho. if it was era specific, yes those 60's squad leading up into the early 70's were great at their time but today's players would own them handedly IMO. Athletes today are just too skilled as opposed to back then.

Uh, I even meant they would fare great against most 70s Finals teams. I really don't wanna go into that generational thing, because I think genius thrives under any circumstances and those who are the greats at the time just have the talent to be the greats at any time. Basically if Lebron trained to become a basketball player in the late fifties he'd be as good or better than Baylor and same the other way round.
I think for example the championship Sonics(one of my favourite franchises in the NBA though)weren't as talented as the '12 Heat relative to their competition.

This Miami team had an injured wade in the playoffs.
But the bottom line is that this heat team has gone to 3 straight finals, had a season where they won 27 games in a row, and won back to back titles. I think as time passes, this Heat team will be looked at different. I feel they will get more respect years from now.
I mean... They won 27 games in a row and a NBA title. Let that sink in for a moment and realize how rare that is in NBA history.

They beat 3 sub-50 win teams in the Eastern Conference and a 37 year old Duncan in the finals while EASILY being the most talented team in the league. Yet they still got taken to 7 games by two vastly inferior teams and were a Ray Allen miracle 3 away from losing in the finals.
Do you need a definition of underwhelming?
