He's 7'1. If you lift, you'd know how ridiculously hard it is to add mass to your limbs as a tall guy.
I'm 6'3 and I still complain. I can't imagine what its like for him.

Not all your limbs are proportional. He may have a short torso, and long legs.
I'm sure he could put on more than he has, but I'm not sure it would be at his benefit. He and his trainer obviously feel this keeps him as mobile as he needs to be, while also not hindering his strength.

I know this, I'm 6'1" with a 6'8" wingspan, still hasn't stopped me from tacking on mass. Are my biceps as big as I'd like, nah, but you put in the work and you'll get results. He's got legs like a marathon runner, I doubt he does any real lower body work.

I doubt the trainer would completely skip his legs. Hes got some of the best professionals in the world working with him.
I'm guessing he does more power exercises that won't necessarily increase the mass, but more explosive fibers in his muscles.

I was referring to Tyson, dont flatter yourself.
There is absolutely no way Tyson does any kind of heavy deadlifting/squatting just like most nba players.
Why bother bringing this up when I've shown you a video of Chris Paul doing 5 rep heavy sets of compound lifts? Another poster showing you a training regime of the Kansas (I think) college team, which included 3-6 rep heavy movements?
Along with videos of Hibbert doing a 3 rep deadlift.

You call what Hibbert did a deadlift? Your definition of a deadlift must be different from mine. That was a rack pull bro. :oldlol:
Chris Paul does heavy deadlifts/ATG squats? Show me, havn't seen that.
No NBA basketball players are doing heavy deadlifts/ATG squats and this pic further proves my point.
It was a 5 rep, bench press. Compound movement, and heavy. You said NBA players don't lift heavy.
Its a deadlift, and even with his range of motion limited, it'd be longer than both mine and yours range of motion. Once again, it was a heavy movement for 3 or so reps. Which you said, NBA players don't do.

Then going straight into heavy dumbbell press for 5. Once again going heavy.

Hibberts not even using a barbell. A trap bar which makes it easier to do more weight. AND the bar is elevated nearly two feet in the air in the starting position. That "deadlift" is the equivalent of a "half squat" where the guy goes down halfway. The ***** bar is the equivalent to the pussypad.
And Paul is doing bench. Who the **** is talking about that? Chandler clearly benches too as well as anyone thats ever stepped foot in a weight room. The topic is about legs.
Your initial argument in the other thread was whether or not players lift heavy. They do. You don't just do 5 rep sets on bench, and then light leg work. That's exactly how you get too top heavy, and lose your jump and quickness.
Who cares if its with the trap bar? The point is, he is doing heavy sets to increase strength. Moving 450+lbs whichever way, is going to do it. That is a lot of weight, for anyone. Its not a half squat when you're 7'3, have a trainer there with you, obviously trying to target a specific point in the movement. Its like benching with a board, trying to improve the upper half of your bench. It serves its purpose for something.
Like I said, hes doing heavy weights. You specifically said NBA players don't go heavy. The truth is, they do.

So your going to tell me what my argument is, huh? I never said anything about bench or "non heavy"
I said that they dont do REAL deadlifts/atg squats. And they dont.
NBA players arn't exceptional athletes for what they do in the weight room. If you actually watch that Hibbert video the stuff in there is pretty much what ALL nba players do.
You are an idiot.
There is not a single NBA player that has not done a Deadlift or Full Squat since they got into college every single year. Most NBA players probably do a lot more single leg work and dynamic work than straight bilateral strength work, but that doesnt mean they dont do them. Anyone that knows anything about training would understand that not doing heavy sets of any compound movement is leaving out a HUGE chunk of potential strength/power/speed for an ELITE level athlete whose job is to be just that.
What Hibbert does in the video is IN SEASON TRAINING, IE the only damn goal is to keep him healthy, moving well, and stable/mobile for the season. That is a professional trainers job of pro athletes, keeping them healthy.
Which leads me to your ATG squats.. Not everyone can do an ATG squat, anatomically speaking. If you have a narrow, high, anterioly tilted pelvis no matter what kind hip mobility you posses, your body will not be able to ATG squat without a rounded back and the hips folding under you. Even just one of those traits will make it extremely difficult to ATG squat safely. There is no need for an NBA player to ATG squat, they should squat as deep is they can while keeping proper spinal alignment and that's it. ATG is not an end all be all, the most successful power lifting gym ever strictly stays away from ATG squats during their training program until competition time because they have found their way to be more beneficial.

Its a deadlift, and even with his range of motion limited, it'd be longer than both mine and yours range of motion. Once again, it was a heavy movement for 3 or so reps. Which you said, NBA players don't do.

Hibbert deadlifting at around 14:00. Can't believe you're actually complaining about range of motion for a 7'3 guy.
Then going straight into heavy dumbbell press for 5. Once again going heavy.
I don't think what Hibbert is doing counts as a DL.. That's the most minimal ranged rack pull I've ever seen. Not that it's not heavy, but that was awful. It also, looked much more like a squat than a DL, the movement pattern was definitely much more knee dominant than hip dominant but it was heavy work.
Also, I don't think being 7 feet tall should stop a rich person from putting on size to their limbs. If you can afford the food, you just eat more. As active as he is, he will not gain fat with even a semi proper cardio program. Sure, adding great mass might be hard, but to have proportional limbs, or even big limbs should be expected out of him.
Also, not because I don't believe you, but I would love to see a 450lb DL just because that's pretty impressive at 6'3" and I enjoy watching other people that work out videos.

this....( that's why nearly all great leapers have skinny/low muscle mass on thier lower body)
and..
- Big muscles....are way way way overrated at every aspect of physical performance.
- More Muscle mass also requires more oxygen..meaning your heart has to work alot harder to pump blood throughout the body....( lowering stamina)
- Do you need to work the Muscle and strengthen your body?...of course....
you do not need to pack on extra muscle for anything other then asthetics....it will actually decrease your overall performance. ( especially basketball.....where low Body fat% / speed and recovery/ Stamina are most important...in terms of the physical attributes wanted)

well probably does bc alot of players have smaller legs than him
Durant,Kevin Martin,TMac,Rondo,A Davis
A strong lower body matters when youre playing in the post, boxing out, defending,Posting up
Dwight gets pushed around,Durant gets pushed around slowed down with
smaller guys on them but stronger either overall or lower body
Its like when Haslem was pushing around Dirk
or you had Battier and Wade or ZBO defending KD
that shouldnt happen a guy 5-7 inches smaller than you shouldnt be able to but it happens

Joe DeFranco (http://www.youtube.com/user/joedefranco/videos)
Interviewer: You're a specialist at increasing the vertical jump. You once said that big calves have about as much to do with how high you can jump as the color of your hair. What's the full story on "big hops"?
JD: The posterior chain (spinal erectors, gluteals and hamstrings) makes up around 70% of the musculature responsible for your jumping ability. Squat and deadlift variations, Olympic lifts, and good mornings will give you the most bang for your buck in the weightroom with regards to improving your vertical jump.
There's another very interesting factor that plays a large role in how high you can jump. I’ve had the pleasure of working with over two-dozen athletes who can jump over 35". Besides being very strong in the posterior chain, they had something else in common: "high cut" calves. What I mean by this is that their calves had an insertion point very high on their lower leg. This usually means a longer Achilles tendon. A longer Achilles tendon can store more elastic energy, which translates into more explosive jumps.
Think about this: have you ever seen a kangaroo with big calves? Of course not! The reason they can jump so high lies in the length of their Achilles tendons. Kangaroos have the longest Achilles tendon of any animal on earth. They also spring off the ground better than any other animal on earth. Unfortunately, you can’t increase the length of your Achilles tendon — it’s genetic. You have your parents to thank for that.
98% of blacks have "high cut" calves + fast twitch muscle fibers = recipe for explosiveness
