Derrick Rose has been horribly underrated over the past year. If he hadn't been hurt, I think you could seriously argue for him over Durant as the second best player in basketball.
See, I actually like Rose and dislike Westbrook in terms of player personalities.
I would still choose Westbrook over Rose because they're pretty close offensively, with Rose taking the edge. Westbrook is actually a beast defensively and I think that edges him over Rose in terms of a player.
I do think Rose is a better leader though, so I would choose him overall. But as a player, I think Westbrook might have the edge.

Westbrook as a first option can score just as good as Rose.
If you look at the way OKC is designed it's not built around Westbrook at all.
Give Swagbrook 2 athletic bigs who can run the floor and floor spacing shooters and I just can't imagine the stats he would put up. Plus Westbrook plays much better D than D rose.
I would take Derrick Rose in the 4th quarter though

Personally, im not a fan of low IQ players that rely a ton on athleticism. However, what separates the two is that Westbrook has a pair of balls. He is arguably more important than Durant on the Thunder imo. Rose imo is the most mentally weak superstar in NBA history.

"Some will argue that it's because he's on such a great defensive team.
However there are several things inconsistent with that argument. First, he was the primary defender on 1,118 plays, that's more than all but three point guards in the NBA. That's not suggestive of the beneficiary of a lot of help defense.
Second, his defensive numbers are generally better than CJ Watson, Keith Bogans or Ronnie Brewer, the other guards on the Bulls. This is in spite of the fact that Rose often would cover the superior offensive threat defensively, particularly when the game was on the line."
"What happens when Derrick Rose plays through defense is that he's very good at fighting through picks, he is tremendous at coming out and challenging jump shots, and he is very hard to get around."

It completely exposed how little he understands opposing defenses. It truly exposed him that night.

I feel like this is a myth or at least not confirmed for sure. They're asked to do things differently on their own respective teams i.e. Westbrook is asked to push the ball a lot harder and be super aggressive so naturally he'll have more TOs. While Rose carries his team, he still plays within the boundaries Thibs system. Also Thibs shits on Brooks all day in terms of coaching.

I've watched a bunch of Thunder games. Westbrook is not good in the post at all. He does an initial post up, then he quits that, and faces up again, and out quicks his defender. That's not a post game.

You'd have to be a ****ing idiot to choose Derrick Rose over Russell Westbrook. Rose was/is in the best position as a PG. Look how the Bulls competed without him in the playoffs, and look how the Thunder competed.
It's obvious Russell is more important to his team.
We know for a FACT that Russell is mentally stronger. We know for a FACT Russell would do anything to win. We know for a FACT that Russell wouldn't sit out in the playoffs because he's not "100%" ...

You mean phobia of performing up to MVP level expectations after a career altering injury? Makes sense in my book. Take your time and don't jeopardize your career or future.
For someone who likes Lebron James you should be an expert on anxiety and phobias. Lebron has showed a diverse array of phobias: pressure situations, public perception in media, final shots, nail biting, NBA finals, pressure to win rings now (talents to south beach)
Essentially Lebron has a GIANT fear of failure. Even with success it rears it's ugly head. See his refusal to take WIDE open jumpers in the first six games of the Finals. He was obviously tentative and scared.

Cautious with return from severe athletic injury somehow equates in a Lebron stans mind as cowardly ...
No where is turning back on hometown team one made promises of glory to and ring chasing with MVP competitors is of course in a LeClown fans mind being brave.
LeBron struggles so much with defeat that in post game interviews he deflects blame and projects then targets fans meager in comparison bank accounts.
You really want to get into this whole coward argument ladies? In no way is Rose wanting to be safe and secure with his body before returning to elite competition a bad thing. You have to feel confident in your body before you can do what you want on the floor. Doctors can't assess and give the green light for that ... It's internal to the athlete.
Given these statements I trust none of you have been athletes at any level. It was clear as day Rose wanted to be on the floor. But not as some role player type impact. He wanted to be Derrick Rose. Thus the wait. Use your brain kiddos. Let the hate out of your hearts. That 2011 was never going to be LeBrons.

I'd take Westbrook everytime. He is bigger, possibly faster, is a better scorer hands down and is the most explosive player in the league. He also has a much better jumpshot/mid-range game.
Rose is never going to win another MVP. His MVP was pretty much just punishment to Lebron for teaming up with Wade. Remember the 08-09 season? Dwyane Wade averaged 30ppg, 5rpg and 7apg. He brought his BAD team to the playoffs by himself and was the best player that year. He was my favorite player then and I felt like he should have been MVP. Its basically a popularity contest.

Move on.
Ok, let's just assume you're right. LeBron is definitely a coward and Rose definitely isnt. Westbrook is still better than Rose.

I agreed with everything you said until popularity contest. Lol.

Thinking Westbrook > Rose in itself is trolling?
That suggest that the opinion of Westbrook being better than Rose is so preposterous that it can't be said with any sincerity. As if Rose is so clearly and definitively better than Westbrook that the mere suggestion that Westbrook is better would have to be trolling.

I would go with Westbrook. I don't see there being a big difference in finishing ability between the two, but Westbrook has the potential to be a great defender at the 1. He has already shown signs of his defensive potential guarding Mike Conley for stretches in the playoffs, and I think he's only going to get better in that area.

Derrick Rose has been horribly underrated over the past year. If he hadn't been hurt, I think you could seriously argue for him over Durant as the second best player in basketball.
Unless he drastically improved from his modest MVP season (one of the weaker ones in recent memory) Rose would have absolutely zero case over Durant as second best player in the league. Durant's 2012 and 2013 seasons are easily better than Rose's 2011 MVP season.

I've watched a bunch of Thunder games. Westbrook is not good in the post at all. He does an initial post up, then he quits that, and faces up again, and out quicks his defender. That's not a post game.
Derrick pounds on anyone smaller than him as well. What's your point?
Rose exhibits a craft, artistry and nuance to his game that Westbrook wishes he had.
Ummm...wrong. He was very good against smaller PG's in the post this year. There were stretches of some games, where we'd just post Russ up 3 or 4 possessions in a row, because he had a PG 2-3 inches shorter and quite a bit lighter and weaker guarding him, and he'd just back them down, and hit 'em with a quick turnaround bankshot.

The thing is, Rose did improve from his MVP season. In 11-12, he was noticably a better decision maker and got his team mates involved a lot more, as well as being far more efficient with improved shot selection.
But the season stats include those rust games where he comes back after weeks out of injury and shoots horribly, so they don't fully capture that. But anyone who watched the Bulls games in 11-12 when he played knows that he improved a lot and was a huge factor in the reason they went 32-7 with him.
Of course, not as good as Durant, but just wanted to make a general point that Rose was still on his way up at that point, and he could have been a contender for 2nd best player in the league had he stayed uninjured. Who knows.

And Rose does the same thing, except he's in full motion, quick turn around, hesitation, spin, layup or floater.
And when he backs his smaller defender down, the defense collapses, so he passes out. Westbrook has Durant to attract a ton of attention, so he gets that 1 on 1 coverage. :confusedshrug:

Yeah, to be honest, I barely remember 2011-2012 Rose because it's been forever since I've seen him play. I'm not implying he wouldn't have or hasn't improved, but I feel like he'd had to improve quite a bit because there was a pretty noticeable gap between Durant's 2013 season and, to a lesser extent, his 2012 season and Rose's 2011 season.

Derrick Rose isnt anything special. You could put any league average starting PG on those Buls teams and have the exact same level of success. Even Nate Robinson was decent enough in that role.

I'm trying to stay out of this argument because I missed the first 8 pages and it's turned into you and other Rose/Bulls stans arguing with LeBron/Heat fans...but wrong on the 1-on-1 coverage. Teams usually just send whoever is guarding Perkins to help if Westbrook is has scored on his man a few times in the post. The Bulls don't have anyone that's anywhere close to being as big of fan offensive liability on their team as Perkins. People need to realize that just because Durant and Westbrook have each other, doesn't mean they still get more open lanes and more 1-on-1 one coverage. Kendrick Perkins is still on the team and teams just usually completely ignore him defensively. That's part of the reason Durant started to struggle so much against the Grizzlies in the playoffs. When Perkins was in the game, they'd just let Gasol roam and hard trap/double Durant when he caught the ball.
And I'm not saying Rose doesn't have a post-game, but you implied Westbrook's sucks, and I know you don't watch nearly as many Thunder games as I do, and definitely know you're at least as biased as I am because you're one of the most biased posters on ISH. My problem is with you saying Westbrook's postgame sucks, because it doesn't. I saw plenty of games this year where he took his man down on the block and score on him multiple times in a game. And it wasn't all turnaround jumpers/faders, either.

There's a drastic difference between OKC with RWB and OKC without him. Rose, not so much. The Bulls this year did about the same against the Heat as they did with Rose. OKC completely fell apart without Westbrook. Is there any doubt that OKC would have beat Memphis with Westbrook playing? Chicago wouldn't have done any better if Rose was playing. His value to his team is pretty clear. With or without him, the bulls are pretty much the same, give or take. OKC goes from a 60 win WC favorite to a team not even close to being a contender without RWB.

Better coach, better role players, better system.
Chicago is a better team, plain and simple. Westbrook is not the #1 option whereas d rose is. Thunder looking terrible without Westbrook is nothing but a testament that they cannot hold it together without a superstar chucking shots. I fail to see how that makes Westbrook better than rose.

Russell Westbrook against the Heat in Game 4 2012 Finals
20/32 FG 43 Points 7 Rebounds 5 assists
Derrick Rose against a much weaker Heat team the previous year.
Shot 6% against the Heat in the 4th guarded by Lebron.
Put Westbrook alone on the Bulls he'll do the same except he won't choke or miss free throws.
That's nice to know.

Derrick Rose is 90% media hype created. Dude is a upper league average starter.
If Ray Allen didn't defect to the Heat team, Lebron would be stuck on 1 weak ring. Just sayin :pimp:

Why are Rose fans so insecure about Westbrook being better? Since when was Rose a godlike PG, he is elite I will give you that. Westbrook is an all star, olympic guard who dropped 43 in the finals against Miami. Westbrook is just as good as Rose, and Rose is just as good as WB. Rose is not Jordan stop acting like he is on an all time great tier Bulls fans. He had one elite regular season and 2 good playoff series. He has barely proved anything. Westbrook torched the Heat in game 4, has destroyed great teams in a tough western conference, won a gold medal, and always comes to play each and every game. WB also has proved barely anything. I really don't see the big deal over Bulls fans getting angry over this.

I have no problem saying they are about the same. On any given day they are slightly better than the other, but I wouldn't say one is definatively better.
However, I will say the edge should go to Rose since he has won an MVP and is less boneheaded than Westy.

dont you think westbrooks numbers would increase if he didnt have to defer to durant all the time (or sometimes :oldlol: )? or are you under the thought process that teams always put the best defender on durant? let me tell you something, teams are not double teaming durant on the perimeter. they are not likely leaving him open, but they are not double teaming him.

Ummm...actually Durant faces more double-teams trying to get open and on the catch on the perimeter and mid and high post. But when Perkins is in the game, teams just completely ignore him and use his man to collapse on Westbrook when he drives.

No, I think his efficiency would be worse without a KD, and he'd get exposed for shot jacking, since he'd put up gaudy stats with bad efficiency, and his teams wouldn't be OKC Thunder good.
So, according to you, KD serves no help to Westbrook, and he's just a net neutral. Riiiiiight.
I pray Rose gets a KD caliber player, so we can run the East. It wouldn't even be fair.

i think westbrook is more important to the rest of the team than durant is. most of the time the PG is more important, even though durant is a beast. without westbrook, ibaka and martin looked like trash. not saying they would have still beasted had westbrook not gotten hurt, but those guys need westbrook. sure durants numbers rose up after the westbrook injury, but he didnt have the energy to put the games away like he usually does.
ive come to the conclusion that westbrook does more for durant than durant does for westbrook. but its just my opinion. if you prefer rose over westbrook thats fine, not like there is a clear cut answer, unless you're from chicago.

No one's denying that Westbrook is extremely important to that team, and even though I disagree that Westbrook's more important, I don't see how that matters.
He still has KD on the team. He's still benefiting from KD. Rose has to do everything, and get everyone shots.
The difference between KD running around a screen, and having each and every defender locking in on him, at their particular spot, freezes a team's defense.
Deng running around those same screens don't have the same effect.

We're not even factoring in the fact that Westbrook has a guy he can dump it to, and watch do his magic. Thus getting more breathers.
If Rose passes it off to someone. Chances are he's running routes to get the ball back because his teammate can't create a shot worth a damn.
The load on offense for Rose is much tougher IMO.

Westbrook has Durant, Rose has an entire team system that has bought into it. Great defense can keep games close against almost any team, look what Nate Robinson did with the Bulls. He lit up a team with better players and knocked the Nets out of the playoffs. Why? Because of team defense. Now if the Bulls had Durant + Rose in THAT system, it would be game over.

Yes, we do have a great team concept, BUT, that wears our players out for the Playoffs, and puts a tremendous amount of stress on our player's body from game to game to game.
It's usually better to have 2 superstars that can share that burden. We have a great team, but when it comes down to it, the burden on Rose on the offensive side is crazy.
He has to do EVERYTHING.
And how do you even twist the argument to make it seem like Rose has it easier? You're obviously partial to Westbrook. I'm obviously partial to Rose, but I admit it.

When Harden's and Westbrook are in the game together, Harden usually takes over the facilitating role, because he was better at doing it, while Westbrook was better at being a SG type.
