"I'm all about the W", player X "does all the little things (that don't show up on the stat sheet)", team A "wanted it more".

Often used by coaches: "We need to play with a sense of urgency", "We gotta play", "We need to make plays"... And of course, "Keep grinding" and "Stay the course" :D

Actually you could do a volume on this subject on cliches related to Kobe alone.

"He put the team on his back and willed them to that win"
"He has killer instinct"
"He's an assassin"
"All he cares about is winning" (as numbersix mentioned)
"At the end of the game, he's their closer"
"He's the alpha dog, first option, first banana, first fiddle, batman, etc."

Most of these are just excuses made to hype up an ESPN star who often becomes a liability to his team with his selfish ballhogging. Gawd forbid anyone go against company line and be critical of MeBe.

The "he only cares about winning, he only wants to win, his goal is nothing short of a championship" is a bunch of silly BS as well. If that were true, he would use his bigs more. Flat out. Every few years he has to ride them to add titles to his resume, and in between he chucks without conscience to statpad his all-time point totals. That's pretty much his formula, and to his credit it has gotten him overrated by a lot of the lower IQ fans and media. He'll defer just enough to the dominant Laker bigs every few years to get credit for "titles" but then after he gets a few he goes into "ok now everyone look at me, watch me shoot, look at me the hero, I'm the star of this show, everyone watch me me me" and guys like Shaq, Bynum, Howard just get sick of it and are like "Ok, we out." Kobe is DAMN LUCKY Pau is both extremely skilled and extremely subservient that he puts up with being the more important player on the team while letting Kobe selfishly hog all the credit and shots.

It is what it is. That's between them, I'm not losin sleep over it. But it is kinda depressing when you see how many Stans kobe has, and you just think about how dumb and gullible the average person is, and pretty much how easily they're sold a bill of goods if you wrap it in a bunch of triumphant cliches and talking points. I've always found the Kobe Stan fascinating from a sociological perspective. Sure, they're very frustrating at times. But I guess life would be a lot less interesting without em.
