well, the egg spends a fraction of the time being kicked in american football, while the ball is constantly being kicked in regular football.
are you sensing the pattern yet? maybe you need to look at the pictures you posted just above and think about them a little bit. :D

the difference is that that one makes sense.
you have a box. you put something inside. you closed it. so what did you do? you boxed it!

look up the etymology of the term... it's pretty interesting.

curling, cricket... etc
yea, see... i don't think you guys are getting the point.
if there's a problem with handegg being called "football," it's not because something completely unrelated was already referred to by the same term. most words have multiple meanings. it's not any kind of problem until... well, it becomes a problem or gets needlessly confusing.
in other words, a jumping insect is called a cricket... and a sport is also called cricket. is this somehow causing anyone anywhere problems?
no. if there's an issue with handegg being called football, it's because they're both popular sports and both played on the same fields and arenas in many cases. but only one of them has a name that makes sense.
agree / disagree?

Handegg sounds retarded, not that 'football' is all that great of a name either. I think soccer is the better name. Who cares anyways? They're just generic names. Maybe we should switch the name to Handvesicapiscis to appease the doofuses over in Europe?

Why does the name have to make sense to euro ****?
In America, where football is played in its highest capacity, when you say football, everyone knows immediately what you are talking about.
Lots of words, titles, names, etc etc don't make sense. it doesn't have to :confusedshrug:
What do crickets have to do with the sport of cricket? Are there any rugs used in rugby? How many boxes do you see in the sport of boxing?
Why you so desperate?

Well, Australians call this football:
http://tastybloggers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/aussie-rules.jpg
and New Zealanders call this football:
http://horiwood.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/maanonu1.jpg
Both balls are also shaped liked eggs and both sports are the most popular in each country, so it sounds to me like the OP is just another butthurt Euro who is being selective and cant handle the realities of America and how it relates to the world.

And why exactly is it called Rugby anyway, when the game doesn't even use a rug? It should be called "Grassby" if you wanna be technical.
Damn, I never thought about it before, but some sports have some f@cked up names.

looks like american football is a direct descendent of rugby... so in yet another way, nothing to do with football.

Why isn't tennis called tennisball or volleyball or racquetball?
Why isn't golf called golfball or clubball or holeball or cupball or teeball?
Why isn't bowling called bowlingball or laneball or pinball or rollball?
Why isn't baseball called batball or mittball or pitchball or hitball?
Why isn't volleyball called spikeball or handball or netball?
The answer is who cares

Just for the records:
Why isn't tennis called tennisball or volleyball or racquetball?
From the French "tenez!" meaning "take it!", which was the warning that the serving player was about to serve.
Why isn't golf called golfball or clubball or holeball or cupball or teeball?
From the Old Dutch "Kolf" meaning "club".
Why isn't bowling called bowlingball or laneball or pinball or rollball?
Well the verb is to bowl, so it's bowling :confusedshrug:
Why isn't baseball called batball or mittball or pitchball or hitball?
It's about hitting balls and reaching bases.
Why isn't volleyball called spikeball or handball or netball?
You only can play the ball while airborne.
Funnily enough, American football is so named because it actually was a variant of (association) football, which then evolved to something very distant from it and closer to rugby.

OT
Americans love to brag about how they had so many accomplishments in science like sending a man to the moon, blah blah...
But they don't realize that immigrants from Europe such as Tesla and Einstein were responsible for these breakthroughs.
Heck they even grabbed German Nazi scientists after WWII so they can work on their space program. So the Americans (Russians as well) have to thank the Germans for that. :lol
thats basically what america is. A land that people choose to live in rather than their crappy homelands. People make the choice to live in america. Other than native americans (less than 1% of the population) all americans are descended from people who came over either the atlantic or the pacific within the last 600 years.
Tesla and einstein both made the choice to live in america rather than their home countries.
Eg. they guy girls leave their current boyfriends for.
