Good choice, no pressure, he'll play in with Lebron, Wade and Bosh which means he'll have less focus from defence. It will make the game much easier on him.

Thats the thing tho. Big IF and yet his signing is being rejoiced? I'm lost. Just seems like a "We can do no wrong" signing that gets overrated. :confusedshrug:

Oden has proven he cant stay healthy. But Heat fans will say "We only need him for postseason so we'll save him"

Oden hasnt proven he can be productive. But Heat fans will say "He is a double double threat and one of the best shotblockers"

Eh, why not have tried to sign Samuel Dalembert.

Because Samuel Dalembert is old and useless. He'd just sit the bench next to Joel Anthony.

With Oden the upside is tremendous. If hes healthy he is elite.

Heat haters are scared at the possibility of a healthy Oden playing for Miami, and if the Heat play their cards right(by resting him until the Chicago/Indiana/Finals series) then the rest of the league doesn't have a chance.

I sincerely doubt Miami cares at all about Greg's best interest. They'll shove him out there way too earlier, ride him like a dog and then when the wheels fall off they'll move on.

Either Oden is severely lacking in common sense or his camp cares way more about the location, spotlight and pub than Greg himself.

I could care less about Miami in of itself but this is a horrible decision for a guy trying to re-establish himself as a legitimate player, not even a #1 pick...just a player.

Dalembert wanted too much money...the Heat can only make certain moves, and everything you say is pretty much true. We need him for the playoff run and I'm sure his regular season minutes will be just enough (hopefully) to prove himself and his worth/presence on the court.

It's the exact opposite of what you said.

If he plays for a shit team, there'll be TONS of pressure for him to play. The team is desperate to win games.

On the Heat? The Heat will be win 60 games without him. They don't even need him. Think Eddy Curry from 2 seasons ago.

Must be the stupidest shit I've ever heard. Miami need Oden long term, they won't just throw him out there and risk him getting injured.

Second, Miami makes the most sense for his game ON THE COURT. In Miami he will be playing with the best player in the world and also guys like Wade and Bosh. The opposing defence will have no time to concentrate on Oden and he'll have less pressure on the court and so much more space to operate. He'll basically have to stand there and be ready to grab the ball under the basket when he gets it.

Yeah, I'm also a bit meh about the whole thing. His history with injuries is scary and this whole thing is a big question mark. He could either do a Brandon Roy and retire again or he could reach half of the potential he had coming out of college (which would make him a top center in this weak center era).

Dalembert wanted too much money...the Heat can only make certain moves, and everything you say is pretty much true. We need him for the playoff run and I'm sure his regular season minutes will be just enough (hopefully) to prove himself and his worth/presence on the court.

Heat could have offered the same deal Dalembert signed for which wasnt much. 2yrs $7.5mil partially guaranteed 2nd year. I know you will counter with the luxary tax but what difference does it make? Heat payroll including tax is over $100mil. Whats a few more? Eh

I'm not saying this is a bad deal. My real argument thoat fans is some Heat fans expectations. This guy career is nothing but injury reports. If he can give you more than what Joel Anthony did? Solid. Thats the best case scenerio for me.

Am I the only one who envisions seeing (in maybe 10-20 years) Juwan Howard on television in something related to the Heat organization (in the crowd, announcing, whatever) and a caption will appear that says "Juwan Howard, Heat Legend"?

If Oden plays a total of 8 seconds this season, it's not really a big loss for Miami:

a) They signed him for free basically and is replacing Juwan Howard on the roster.
b) Miami went to the Finals 3x and has won the last two titles without him.

Small risk/big reward.

What makes Oden a "good player"? He's played the equivalent of one NBA season with an average of 9/7 since he was drafted in 2007. There are at the maximum 2 superstars on the Heat, I would normally not hesitate to call Wade a superstar but he was so bad in the playoffs (hopefully just injury).

It makes 0 sense if he trying to set his life up for after basketball. It makes little sense if he is trying to develop into a NBA player. It only makes sense if he values winning a ring while on IR or not playing. A championship level team doesn't have the ability to bring in a raw player and play him once every 4 games. That stuff hurts your rotations. He will be playing more games and will not be given the freedom he would on a team without championship aspirations.

We should really alert his neighbors during the Miami games. Can't take the chances of any little kids being in his vicinity.
LOL Oden has been resting for 3 years:roll:

But alas, this was a great sign for the Heat. Is like with Bynum in CLE, BIG risk but HIGH reward if it work, if Oden is healthy and plays like he is supposed though the Heat would be even more stacked than last year.

what does life after basketball have to do with his choice with playing for the Heat? how does it differ anywhere else if he signed with NO, SA, DAL? dumb comment.

how do you know what makes little sense to him considering you're not Oden. Oden felt like he would fit best in his current condition on the Heat. It has to do with the fact that he took the min amount possible.

Also, you don't have to be Oden to know what makes sense. That is why he has agents and that is why people consult financial experts when making decisions. Oden is actually the prob the least qualified person to know what is the best move for career based on his previous behavior(alcoholism and immaturity). He made a bad choice, it may still end up ok but I guarantee there were better options out there.

Clearly he could've gotten more money elsewhere, but in limited duty in Miami, he might appear better than he really is, and may trick some team into giving him a larger contract next year when he opts out. Along the way, he'll likely get a ring. It makes sense the more I think about it.

Unreal. There is absolutely no way to fairly compare this team to other great teams of the past. The Heat model of gobbling up the top players from the best free agent crop in history-- through collusion, I might add-- and then using them to lure the best title clingers is unprecedented. The only team remotely comparable is the 04 Lakers, who somehow managed not to win it, but Malone and Payton were both over-the-hill already.

You have to live in south Florida or be an LBJ stan to cheer for them now. There's no way anyone else could feel good rooting for this team.

True. If he's healthy and averages 20-25 minutes a game, we'll three-peat!

\\Hes not going to avg 20-25 min

he'll avg maybe 8-12 in reg season and 10-20 in playoffs if that
When the Heat got Birdman he wasnt playing much anywhere from 5 min to 12 sometimes 15 in reg season
and then he played 10-20 in playoffs and wasnt even used much in finals

Greg Oden has potential, but he hasnt played a single game in years,
Regardless of him being a mobile 7 footer and getting back into shape,he hasnt played a game since his injury

As of right now,hes a benchwarmer thats a mobile 7 footer with Potential to be very beneficiary to Miami

But hes not playing big minutes,
The Heat aren't Chicago where they are running every single player to the ground
Health is key for miami,
theyre not going to try to win a lot over being healthy, knowing roles and getting the way they want to play for the plaoyoffs

Theyre going for a 3rd straight title and 4th time in the Finals in a Row,
Theyll manage minutes and roles and fits how they see fit and who they play against

Case in Point Birdman playing against IND,CHI and rarely against SA
or Wade,LeBron,Bosh being the teams focus against certain teams

the HEAT WON 66 Games last year with Birdman playing 24 games, the heat star players and role players resting the last 10 games and everuy now and then

Theyll win 60,but health and being ready for the playoffs is more beneficial to them than regular season records like
the Chicago Bulls who run hard, play hard, play heavy every single game and playoff time theyre out of energy, spent, injured, worn down

LAST SEASON

WADE AND BOSH played a Career low in MPG,and they won 66 games

Genius move... once again. As far as basketball minds are concerned, Riley is in a class of his own.

It's scary how this team was put together, from just Wade to the Big 3, then adding Ray Allen, and now Oden.
Even if he ends up not playing at all, the sheer brilliance of the most stacked team in the league being somehow able to acquire a potential difference making, rebounding, defending 7 footer at the minimum is something to be marveled at.

The chances of Oden actually staying healthy are pretty low, but if he does make it to the playoffs he can have a major impact. For a minimum deal that's pretty good.

Also Bosh has to be loving this. If Oden is healthy for the playoffs, that means Bosh can move back to his natural position at PF, and he won't have to spend another year being Hibbert's bitch.

It's a good signing because it's no money, no risk, and if he plays it's amazing. People are making the jump from IF to WHEN, talking about the 20 minutes, planning ways it will work out. The most likely outcome here is he has zero impact in the playoffs because he's out with injury. And it's not 20% out, 20% sometimes hurt, 30% hurt only a little, etc. It's basically 75% no impact, 25% some impact.

People need to slow down here. Amare has a lighter frame, ten times the work ethic, and he basically comes back for 10 games and then his knees explode. I don't see why this would be different.

Hoopz2332

It's not like the Heat are gong to rely that much on oden anyway. They only really need him for someone like Hibbert when they play the pacers. There are no other big men in the league that can cause the type of matchup problems for the heat like he did.

It's not like the Heat are gong to rely that much on oden anyway. They only really need him for someone like Hibbert when they play the pacers. There are no other big men in the league that can cause the type of matchup problems for the heat like he did.

You've obviously never seen Marc Gasol play

I still believe. I don't know what will happen but I believe
You hope, not believe. Stop quoting lines from crappy t-shirts or cartoons like DBZ.

Not shocking at all to see the vast overreaction on ISH. I mean, clear your minds and think for one second...if Oden is even a difference maker...that would be a big deal because it implies he stays healthy AND is actually contributing. The health part is like 70% of it and the biggest hurdle.

Everyone needs to slow down. All we know is that Oden looks good in workouts at the gym. That's it. No game situations, real basketball, or facing NBA athletes.

Just want to say it's way more likely he ends up as Eddy Curry on the Heat rather than Bill Walton on the Celtics. Relax people.

They should just wrap him in bubble wrap and wheel him out in the ECF, lol.

After dude is in and out of the lineup with various ailments they'll reconsider that cheeseburger and fries.

He's had 5 knee surgeries and THREE microfractures. He's never going to be what people hoped when came into the league.

If they can get 10-15 min per game of Birdman like production from him it will be a miracle. There's a reason the minimum is the best he could do.
