View Full Version : Worst State in the US?

SilkkTheShocker

West Virgina- Underrated when it comes to worst state to live in debates. Nothing but hillbillies, shit-hole little towns, and and just an overall depressing atmosphere. All horror movies should be filmed here. No sports teams, no real city life, and driving through the state alone is a pain in the ass.

Typical small West Virginia city:

And here is what a more populated West Virginia city looks like:

Part of DC touches West Virginia and the suburbs around DC are very nice. If you think West Virginia is hillbilly you've clearly never driven any further south. Until you get to the big cities in those states there is nothing there. Carolina's, Georgia, Atlanta, same shit as West Viriginia but bigger and even less.

I go through Georgia alot, and it's a total hole, outside of Atlanta and Savannah.

Honestly, take away the Florida beaches, and it's not that great at all. Central Florida is hot, flat, and there's nothing going on.

I like Florida. If I travel its usually to somewhere like Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Naples, etc. I like Orlando, but the night life sucks. Northern Florida sucks though. And agreed about Georgia. It all feels it takes an eternity to drive through that damn state.

Not every state is perfect. Like what is New York without NYC?

In no order: Mississippi, Florida, New Jersey, Utah, Alabama, West Virginia, Rhode Island, Arkansas, Ohio, and my state, California are what I would estimate to be the top 10 worst states in the US at the moment. Just missing the cut I would probably have to say Oklahoma and Arizona.

Agreed..I used to love the idea of getting out of the South and into the urban megapolis...but really didn't see how good we have it. It's awesome to live in a big southern city such as Dallas...you have the urban lifestyle at your doorstep while living in great suburbs and many outdoors adventures close by. North would be too crowded and cold for me.

Also, I think I'd love living in Charlotte. Seems like a great city.

I mean unless you're living in the small towns and back country of southern states or well anywhere in Oklahoma, this won't be an issue if you live in a big city down here. I've only had one time in my entire life where I've had a racial incident with someone and it was in a smaller town.

My vote goes to Mississippi.

They're the fattest state, least educated, highest teen pregnancy rate, have a ton of poor people, too religious (which isn't inherently bad, but it's a red flag) etc. Their state constitution states "No person who denies the existence of a Supreme Being shall hold any office in this state." Along with the rebel flag on their state flag, it just reeks of a backwards culture.

At least other Southern states have their strengths, be it beautiful nature, women, sports, or famous inventors. The only thing off the top of my head that Mississippi has contributed to the world is this gif:

It's not a rebel flag in that context. It's a symbol of heritage and their past...like the Hawaii flag is half US/UK flag. I don't see that as meaning anything...that flag is pretty misunderstood as it is.

Agree though it's a state that's not the most attractive to live in. Driven through the small towns and it looks so boring.

But, I did really like Montgomery, AL and it's nice suburbs so there is always room to surprise.

I've lived in South Al and north Al and the worst places are mobile and the Gump.

Huntsville and Bham is cool but Bham is getting worse.

Huntsville has a lot of colleges which make it better and more jobs also.

Depending on your criteria it's either North Dakota or Mississippi. North Dakota trumps Nebraska for "most boring" and Mississippi trumps some of its neighbors for "shitty racist dump". There are redeeming cities or geographical benefits to the neighboring states that would otherwise compete with ND and Miss.

Yeah, guess I wouldn't classify us as that. But closer to being like say Charlotte than NYC.

Florida is probably my favorite states lol. It was like 80 degrees in the middle of December when i was over there and then i came back to chicago and got really sick. The girls there were amazing too

Not every state is perfect. Like what is New York without NYC?

Where I live in St. Petersburg is awesome, and the Tampa bay area in general is a great place to live. The winter weather is amazing. I just hate the area east of here. It's just terrible, but it doesn't last long, fortunately.

Ohio as a whole isn't bad. Cleveland and Columbus are nice, but i think Dayton and Cinci are really shitty. I think the true mason dixie line bisects columbus. People from southern Ohio seem to have a big sense of redneck/southerner pride.

I'm originally from Athens county, and I can 100 percent attest to this. It's really bad.

I've only been to Florida twice and both times were beach trips when I was younger so I don't think those experiences would tell me much. But I have relatives in Florida and from what I hear I would NOT want to live there...there are no seasons, only hot and humid, and it rains EVERY SINGLE DAY you can set your watch to it...it's tropical weather in every sense. You start sweating the moment you open your front door.

That kind of weather is nice for a beach trip but that's about it...would hate to be in that during the Holidays...

U should check out Gary Indiana :lol

You formulated your opinion of Indiana based on Gary? Lmfao. That's like formulating your opinion on Italy based on the poorest ghettos and slums. Not to mention, Gary is practically a suburb of Chicago anyway.

It's cool though, Indianapolis is constantly underrated. We like it that way, it keeps the dumbest tourists away from our city.

I've lived here for 10+ years and all I have to say is you get used to it :confusedshrug: I'll take humidity any day over cold ass weather. Yeah it gets annoying but then I think that I could be back in England freezing my johnson off and then everything is good.

I was in Indianapolis during my spring break in 2005. It was boring to me. I just dont like Indiana period. Indiana reminds me of Mississippi in a way if u ask me with all of country people there and shit.

Lots of upstate New York is gorgeous.

alaska is meh. easily the most boring place to live if u grew up metro. but ive kinda adopted the outdoorsman lifestyle and this place isn't that bad. good fishing, camping and the landscape is pretty awesome. shame i ignored it the first 2 years living here. if the winter only lasted no more than 3 months, id definitely stay. lived in cali, hawaii, washington and colorado. visited nevada, utah and arizona. colorado is easily my favorite state and will most likely move back there later.

to answer this question tho... its texas. FUKK TEXAS!

Indy 2005 is way different than Indy 2013. The recent Superbowl really helped our city economy. There are a lot of new restaurants, bars, and hotels.. the overall vibe downtown has changed. There's a shitload to do in this city.

The only thing off the top of my head that Mississippi has contributed to the world is this gif:
http://nbccollegebasketballtalk.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/marshall_hendersonauburn.gif?w=640&h=360
And the player was born in Texas anyway.

I thought that was Texas?? Texas has like 4 of the top 10 fattest cities. Well, at least they did.

Worst state I have ever had the misfortune of going thru was Arkansas. It literally smelled like shit as soon as we crossed the state line :oldlol: Plus, Jerry Jones grew up there. It's repulsive

Alaska is hands down the worst place I have ever been to. Miserable. Nothing to do. The same nosey, drug addicted people in your business constantly. The cops are ****ing assholes. The men outnumber the women 10 to 1. So as a result, even the nastiest, fattest meth-toothed bitch acts stuck up. The winter is practically 8 months of the year. This place is a black hole that sucks you to die. I got back up here in 2011, and in the time I was gone, 2 years, a heroin bomb went off. Where before everyone was into smoking weed and crack, now EVERYONE I know here is deep into heroin. And now, in 2013, they're dropping off like flies. I've been back for 2 years and in that time 2 guys I know have been murdered, and 3 people have OD'd. Which isn't a lot in other places, but this is a small place. It's crazy. The homeless epidemic up here. Alcoholism. I've been all over and have never seen anything like the way it is up here. I should have never came back. Now I'm stuck.

Even broke, CA is far from any list of worst states. Still the only place on Earth with a little bit, but just enough of a piece of every other place on Earth so that you never actually need to leave.

West Virginia can't be the worst ... because it's one of the most beautiful by default ... I think their state slogan or what have you is "Wild and Wonderful" ... and come on - let's be real - there's certainly much worse out there - like say neighboring Kentucky. Arkansas is a shit hole. Nebraska, nothing but shit and shit for miles and miles. All I'm saying is, West Virginia can't be the bottom of the totem pole. Not with Vermont still in the mix. ****ing hate Vermont, and them green license plates.
