yes. it is the common explanation for near death experiences, alien abduction experiences, ghosts, succubus/incubus visitations, etc etc

I used to experience it as a kid. Not so much as an adult.

Yep same here. It has a lot to do with sleeping patterns and nutrition IMO.

Honestly didn't even know what it was. Looked it up and now I'm scared of going through it :oldlol: Said that most people see terrifying sights.

For me it was always towards the end of an intense dream. I'd feel myself waking up, being totally aware that I was in bed but unable to move or open my eyes. Very strange.

Haven't experienced it, thank God!

That sh!t be scary.

Yeah, I've read that you can't move your body while your dream. That's what causes the paralysis. I've never seen the ghosts or shit, just been paralyzed.

Yes, I've experience it often because of my erratic sleep pattern. I used to experience it almost every night a few years back. Now I experience it every once in a while, and every time it happens, I refuse to go back to sleep.

It really is terrifying, too. I've seen shit that would make the scariest of ghost movies look tame and child friendly.

Yeah, it is supposed to keep you from acting out your dreams. When we wake up, that part of the sleep cycle is supposed to stop, but for some it keeps going. It is usually both the visual cortex being overly active and the part that paralyzes your body at the same time. Because it is terrifying to wake up and not move AND the dream sequence is still going when your eyes are open, your brain tries to make sense of what is going on, which is why people tend to visualize figures such as aliens or shadow people coming into the room.

Yeah I've had it. Laying in bed and everything looks exactly the same yet you can't move. Usually it's just me but I think I recall something coming towards me once. I usually realize its a dream after a little and wake myself up. Happens if you try to lucid dream. Anyone gave those dreams where you have to run from something and just can't run fast at all, or can barely run?

I had similar experiences. And I also seem to have outgrown it thankfully. I would have it in bunches, maybe 3 or 4 times a month, for a few months, then it would go away for a year or so. But it was all during my early to mid 20s, then it just sort of stopped.

I too found it tended to follow intense dreams. I don't have any memory of seeing things, but it was still a scary experience. I'd try to shout, or move, and couldn't, and as I came out of it, I'd find I'd have some movement, like being able to sort of violently roll. I was rolling into my wall once trying to wake myself, and my mother came in and thought I was having a seisure. She wound up waking me up. I told her about it, and she wound up asking some people about it (she's a nurse), but we never really did anything about it.

This actually happened to me last week. Freaked me the **** out. I was laying in bed and I could not move, I was trying for the life of me just to pick my head up and I couldn't. Then I heard constant loud ass banging on my bedroom door and after like 5 seconds the door swung open and some guy was coming in to try to kill me. He was holding my nephew too. It was so weird/scary.

Ha! I had this happen to me when I was in my late teens.
I seriously loved it, gave me an adrenaline rush!!

Did it really freighten all of you?
I'm also not big on horror film and The Ring creeped me out, especially the video in that movie. Also, Hellrazor and Nightmare on Elm Street gave me nightmares when I was younger. However, Sleep Paralysis scared me but at the same time excited me.

WTF is wrong with me!

Fortunately for me I never experienced that. I would try and open my eyes but couldn't.

Had it twice before. Scary as hell. I did sleep afterwards though, because the shit happening again after just having one is of minimal chance..

not had it but a mate of mine has told me about having it and it being scary the fist time it happened.
It's thought to be one source for alien abduction claims, a theory on why so many people around the world think aliens look the same (long grey heads big black eyes) and think their in hospital like areas is also that scientists have re created how babies eyes view things (they are shaped different and have some crap on them) and their vision is mainly in shades of grey and faces look long and distorted with eyes having a big prominence and noses not so much. The representation their recreations made looked a lot like an alien, they think it could be repressed memories of when your born or younger.

It used to happen to me quite regularly but has mostly gone away over the last few months. Only thing I have changed is I've switched from dairy to soy milk. Not sure if there is a causal relationship there though. Maybe it is just something that phases out?

I've had a handful of times in my life. I've researched it. Most people get it while sleeping on their back. I've only ever gotten it sleeping on my back.

You wake up and you're aware of your surroundings then you get a paniced feeling. But you can't open your eyes or move your body. You start breathing heavily, heartbeat raises, I'm sure a lot of people sweat.

I remember there was once I was purposely trying to breath as hard as I could so my wife would wake up and try to wake me up. That shit didn't work. I sat there what seemed like 2-3 minutes trying to wake myself up.

There's been times before where in the past I'll see figures too. Like a white figure/face or something like that.

I don't know what's worse. Having a night terror/sleep paralysis or waking up with a f*cking Charlie Horse in my calf. I had the most painful one in memory a week or so ago. I had to bite my pillow to keep myself from yelling like a b*tch.

Bump. Just had an episode and it was terrifying. I saw a pair of glowing eyes at the end of my bed, but I was unable to move or speak. Loud music meant for a terroizing chase was being played in my mind. Luckily, it lasted a short period and I knew that I was in sleep paralysis. Still, I was scared shitless.

Weird. This is exactly what happened to me a few times when I was a young kid. I saw something come into the room and just started at it as it came near me. Didn't even try to move...don't remember if I could.

It was basically a shadow person.

In reality? Probably only a few minutes.

But, the experience is so intense and terrifying, it feels like a lot longer. I've had it several times in the past. It would usually come not long after I initially laid down to go to sleep... at least, that's how it felt.

I don't remember ever actually seeing any "shadow figures" or whatever, but there was a very real, all consuming feeling of being watched... even something leaning over top of me.

Again, not a visual thing, just a sensation.

My brother has had it to and I've heard it may be a heredity thing.

I experienced it a lot when i started drinking coffee a lot and smoking cigs. Terrified at first, but as times past i feel relaxed then started to lucid dream. Needs a lot of practice though. I have not experienced sleep paralysis for about 4 months now, I honestly miss it. :D

Had it a few times. Never anything visual, only paralysis. It usually happened when something woke me up during dreaming. It sucks when you have to piss during being paralized.

Same for me. I'm 30 and it's been sporadic all throughout my life. Sometimes it's something harmless like I think someone I know is at the door trying to get ahold of me and other times it feels like there is some kind of evil presence in the room with me.

i hope you're exaggerating. i can't imagine being in that state for 3 mins, yikes. i'd say 30 seconds max is how long they last, just seems like a few mins.

Try staying awake while falling asleep. If you get the rigt balance, you'll achieve it.

My best bet would be watch a scary movie or a movie that freaks you out before you go to sleep. You'll have a better chance.

First time it freaked me out but not so much anymore because I know shit's all fake. I either close my eye and attempt to wiggle and scream out of it and you'll eventually break out.

It's kinda a cool experience. I heard some freaky ones on the web though, remember hearing some dude's story when he thought he was in a paralysis, thought he got out(but he didn't) and looked in the mirror to see a figure behind him.

Mines happen mostly during day naps. Its not fun at all, you basically are paralyzed and have a feeling of imminent terror. It would be cool if I could at least jerk off during this dream because jerking off always triumphs fear, ALWAYS

I<3NBA

it happens frequently to me. it's fkn terrifying at times. other times, i can overcome my fear (when i'm not alone in the room)

it's the fear of death which usually scares the fk out of me. i'd feel unable to breathe and i try my damndest to move so i can breathe. for some reason, it's my feeling that if i'm unable to take that breath, i'd die.

i have some really terrifying experiences but for the benefit of those who experience this too, i'd rather not tell it so i don't scare you guys even more.

Nope. All muscles are frozen. Physically, your eyes are looking around rapidly while you are in the state.

Not for me. I have fully movement with my eyes and I read that you can go into a lucid dream if you are having sleep paralyis and if you''re able to close your eyes + fall back to sleep quickly

Yes used to freak me the hell out as a kid, would even happen when i took naps in study hall and sh*t and I'd be paralyzed but totally awake and fully conscious sometimes trying to fight to move for up to 2 minutes it seemed like lol. When I got older I finally looked it up and found out when your sleeping your body naturally releases chemicals that paralyze your muscles - don't remember why exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's just so we don't move around all the time while we dream, but once I found out it was natural I didn't worry about it anymore. It happens still from time to time but it's merely a rare annoyance now.

This is what i had before, I was paralyzed and all the fear came from being unable to move, I saw a dark figure and quickly closed my eyes
