TT has been shooting lefty his whole bball career, but has been pretty ambidextrous, able to finish pretty well with either hand.

next year he plans to shoot jumpers and freethrows right handed

pretty unprecedented.

That's kind of odd.

Didn't read the article. What's the point of this?

I remember Sheed used to launch half courters with both hands before games. Think he even shot a few 3's left handed too.

he thinks that he could be a better shooter if he shot right handed instead of lefty

I've read about this and there are a few reasons for the possible switch (it hasn't been completely confirmed yet).

First, his teammates think he might be right-handed, though he has always believed he was a lefty. Apparently, they believe he finishes/shoots better with his right hand... so he has taken their advice to heart.

Second, Tristan is such a hard-worker, the coaching staff told him it might be easier to start teaching shooting form from scratch with a new hand than to break bad habits that he has developed over time with his left. It makes sense when you think about it that way. If a guy is willing to put in the work, it might be a more efficient way of learning.

EDIT: Just read the article and I guess this does officially confirm all of the rumors.

Doesn't sound good to me. This isn't something you fix when you have been doing it all your life.

LOL as above stated perhaps this is the easiest way to correct the form issues you have from shooting a specific way your whole life Xx

Why not? :oldlol:

He hasn't been a threat as a shooter since he came into the NBA. He has developed a nice little lefty push shot from the baseline and straight away, and some nice hooks around the basket, but he is not a threat to hit a jumpshot with his left so far in his career.

Why not try to add that to his game with a different hand, if possible? It's not like he would lose his ability around the basket with his left... It's just adding to what he already does well.

I see no downside to this development. Sounds very good to me.

Since he's not a great shooter left or right handed anyway I have no issues with this.

It's not like he's going to step out there and be Steve Nash with his right hand. Anything offensively he can offer outside of 10-feet with either his right or left hand will be a vast improvement on what he was already doing with just his left hand.

apparently TT shot the ball well including 2 clutch FT's in canada's win over Jamaica. all right handed.

Not that big of a deal. Wont effect his scoring around the hoop, and that's 90% of his attempts.

That said, I still think Thompson is bench-big in the NBA.

Quite odd considering his production went up in year 2, but not a hugely skilled player to begin with so we will wait and see.

Don't really understand why he's switching but he's not known for shooting anyway

He's been shooting right handed in the last two Canada games, almost had a HUGE putback today btw. Almost scrapped a few times too :oldlol:

He averaged 13/11 in the 50 games without Varejao last year as a 21 year old, still pretty raw NBA sophomore. I'm going to assume anyone who is still calling him a "bench big" after being one of the most improved players in the league last year hasn't watched him much recently.

Really glad this team has managed to put some talent around Kyrie, I really enjoyed what Andy V was doing at the start of the season and i hope they don't move him. I'm sure to watch plenty of games this coming season. East is looking great!

Cavs in win now mode already :applause:

I saw this report yesterday and got pretty interested so I checked some videos of him. He does everything with his right hand on the court. Rebounds, dunks, passes.. seems like the only thing he does with his left is shot freethrows and jumpers.

Whatever he feels comfortable with I guess, I don't really think it's a massive deal considering he's a close to the bucket/garbage man type player who is expanding his game. If it were someone like a LMA or Bosh type player doing this I would have my concerns but I think it's fine won't impact him to much.

totally unnecessary bump, but fu ck it, its the off-season

http://www.fearthesword.com/2013/9/3/4689260/tristan-thompson-switch-right-hand-free-throw-shooting

tristan has shot 29/37 (78%) from the freethrow line in international competition so far, since he switched to his right hand

Evidence of a great work ethic. Kid came in shooting sub 50% at Texas.

His shot doesn't look bad from what I've seen in this tourney. He actually has better form with the right hand. Still not a huge fan of TT though, I thought the Cavs really reached for him with the 4th pick, but that's a discussion for a different day.

I still think he could have averaged 12/8 if given enough touches though!

So...what is my avatar to be?

lets see how natural it is for him to change his shot without thinking about it. It could be quite good for his development, but I am a little leery about changing something so drastically when you will be thinking about it during the game rather than just playing. I am intrigued. Being a lefty has some massive advantages (Harden told bill simmons an extra 6 pts a game as player forget you are a lefty while guarding you late in the game or on switches).

Ryan Wolstat @WolstatSun

Tristan Thompson shot 48.7% from the free throw line at Texas, 58.6% over first two NBA seasons, but 89% at this tournament so far.

I saw him play at Puerto Rico and he's been having a solid 20/10 stretch. He's using his right hand effectively.
