View Full Version : Greek National Team Scrubs That Are Coveted By The NBA
Euroleague
08-11-2013, 11:09 AM
Giannis Antetokounmpo - NBA player
He was the 5th leading scorer of the Greek Under-20 national team. He also was not good enough to even get an invite to the training camp of the senior men's Greek national team.
Kostas Koufos - NBA player
Koufos was the starting center of the Denver Nuggets last year.
He has varied between either being the 3rd string center on the Greek national team, or not even being invited to play on the team.
Nick Calathes - NBA player
On the Greek national team, he has been the backup point guard, behind Vassilis Spanoulis. Also, the only reason Calathes ever even made the Greek national team, was because Dimitris Diamantidis refused to play. Otherwise, Calathes would never have even made the Greek national team.
So, to make clear...............
Koufos is a 3rd string C, or not even invited on Greek national team, but in the NBA he was a starter.......
Antetokounmpo can't even get invited to the training camp of the Greek national team, and he's already in the NBA, with the Bucks claiming he will be a rotation player this year.
Calathes, who was Vassilis Spanoulis' backup on the Greek national team, has now been given a rotation spot on the Grizzlies, according to most reports........
Yep, the NBA sure is "superior" alright..........

Funny how you spent all this time praising Antetokounmpo comparing him to Kevin Durant, posting videos of him dunking and predicting he is going to be a top draft pick and now when he is drafted in the mid first level and is about to start his NBA career he becomes a scrub.
You are really looney.
I bet even if your boyfriend, that scrub Spanoulis, decided to give the NBA another go the second he signs with an NBA team we will start to hear you calling him a scrub as well.
And remember the Greek national team is the same team that was eliminated by Nigeria in the qualifying tournament. The same Nigerian team that lost to the US by over 80 points in the Olympics.
That really shows the quality of the Greek National team. Maybe if they gave more playing team to players like Koufos and Calathes instead of the disgraced scrubs Spanoulis and Bourousis the Greek national team would stop being the laughing stock of the basketball world.

That's funny, considering ever since Calathes and Koufos, "the NBA level players" joined the Greek national team all the winning of medals immediately stopped.
BEFORE the addition of the "NBA level players", Greece was winning medals every year. The team got exponentially worse by far when the NBA players joined it.
And of course, without those NBA players (FINALLY got rid og that scrub Calathes - THANK GOD), now Greece can finally start winning again.
They will win GOLD this summer at EuroBasket, now that they got rid of the NBA SCRUBS totally.
But keep up your delusions. Just know the thread will be bumped when Greece wins gold this summer, now that the NBA scrubs are off the team.

And yes, the NBA is NOT "superior" if it uses Greek national team role players as starters and rotation players. Which is exactly the case. I mean freaking Koufos, either is 3rd string center on Greece, or he does not get invited. It's one or the other most times.

that's such a failure of logic a facepalm isn't enough.
logical fallacy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirming_the_consequent)
IF Calathes produces in the NBA, it can mean a number of things
1. the Greek coach does not utilize him properly
2. he is a better fit in the NBA
3. he is simply better than Vag-Span and the Greek team has been doing him an injustice for years
furthermore, even if he does perform well in the NBA, it does not necessarily mean that Euroleague is superior to the NBA. one or 2 players does not constitute a trend but a statistical anomaly.

that's such a failure of logic a facepalm isn't enough.
logical fallacy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirming_the_consequent)
IF Calathes produces in the NBA, it can mean a number of things
1. the Greek coach does not utilize him properly
2. he is a better fit in the NBA
3. he is simply better than Vag-Span and the Greek team has been doing him an injustice for years
furthermore, even if he does perform well in the NBA, it does not necessarily mean that Euroleague is superior to the NBA. one or 2 players does not constitute a trend but a statistical anomaly.
Calathes played behind Spanoulis on TWO different Greek teams with THREE different coaches, and two of the coaches were NOT Greek.
You need to step up your troll game.

Charismatic, powerful and strong, Joe Blair shined in Europe's signature club competition early in this decade. Blair became the Euroleague regular season in 2002-03 and made it to the All-Euroleague second team in 2001-02. An outstanding rebounder at both ends, Blair opened the decade playing for PAOK and then averaged a double-double with Scavolini Pesaro (15.6 ppg., 11.9 rpg.) in the 2001-02 season. Blair stayed as a dominant force with Ulker in each of the last two seasons and also played for Milano in 2005-06. Just so you know, your employer does not pay you enough to do this.
I also forgot about NBA reject Langdon.
Cut by the Clips
This is what happened
The steady rise of Trajan Langdon as one of the world's great shooters had its crowning moment as he guided CSKA Moscow to a second Euroleague title together in three seasons while being named MVP of the 2008 Final Four. Langdon had already reached the Euroleague final with Benetton in 2003, but he was without a trophy when in 2005 he arrived to Moscow in the the prime of his career. The next four years were filled with success. The first season, Langdon helped win CSKA's first continental title in 35 years. The next, CSKA was runner-up. In 2007-08, he was the undisputed leader as CSKA captured a new title and Langdon added the Final Four MVP trophy to his collection of accolades. Last season, though it lost the title by one point, CSKA became the first team to be a finalist four years in a row. Langdon has now garnered All-Euroleague honors for three consecutive seasons, which says it all about a great defender with unlimited shooting range and winning mentality.

[QUOTE=Rooster]Ford,Edney and Brown were NBA rejects
Euroleague GOAT:bowdown:
An athletic swingman with poise, talent and a knack for winning - especially in the biggest games - Anthony Parker became a superstar by leading Maccabi Tel Aviv to back-to-back Euroleague titles in 2004 and 2005. No team had been able to repeat in more than a generation, and Parker was Maccabi's undisputed leader. He was named Euroleague MVP in the second of those title seasons and the one that followed, becoming the only player so honored in consecutive years. Parker's alley-oop dunks, finesse and good-as-gold mid-range shot turned him into an icon for Maccabi fans, though he was respected for his professionalism as much as he was admired for his talent. Between 2004 and 2006, Parker piled up trophies as double champion, two-time all-Euroleague first-team selecion and Final Four MVP. Parker and Maccabi reached another title game in 2006, just missing on a historic three-peat, but by then their legacy together had been cemented as Parker simply dominated the Euroleague at his peak. He still holds the single-season record for performance index ratings in a season, 2004-05, and had the next-best rating the following one. Parker also hit the second-most free throws in any season all decade and and 2005-06 seasons still rank first and second for the decade.

Antetokounmpo isn't a member of Greek national team. Try comprehending what you read sometime.
And yes, the NBA is NOT "superior" if it uses Greek national team role players as starters and rotation players. Which is exactly the case. I mean freaking Koufos, either is 3rd string center on Greece, or he does not get invited. It's one or the other most times.
He was a STARTER in the NBA.
Antetokounmpo was the FIFTH scorer of the JUNIOR Greek team............yet the Bucks said he will be a rotation NBA player.

What does it matter then that Koufos is 3rd string. Or Calathes is a backup? They are still in the NT of Greece! One of the 12 or 15 best in Greece! Does this mean the players they are backing are necessarily better that they are? Not necessarily, especially in Europe.
It has already been pointed out here many times by Euros that starting and coming off the bench are meaningless in Europe? Am I right or am I wrong? So what does it matter, again, being backups on Greece's best team?

Antetokounmpo can't even get invited to the training camp of the Greek national team, and he's already in the NBA, with the Bucks claiming he will be a rotation player this year.
Calathes, who was Vassilis Spanoulis' backup on the Greek national team, has now been given a rotation spot on the Grizzlies, according to most reports........
Yep, the NBA sure is "superior" alright..........
:lol :oldlol:  :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

If a Greek player could dominate in the NBA, your logic would make sense. Until that happens, no one gives a shit.

EUROLEAGUE. That's not how it works in national teams. The best players almost always start in national teams.
And no way in hell is Calathes and Koufos in Greece's top 12-15 players. Top 20 is more like it.
When Kosta Koufos is top anything, you know your league is awful. Dude is top 200 in the NBA on a good day.

And numerous NBA players did not do jack shit in Euroleague when they played there.
WTF is your point?
First of all, you have been exposed many times regarding NBA players who have not performed in the Euroleague. Mind you, NBA players aren't necessarily on Team USA. Many NBA players are in the NBA, yes, but barely. Meaning, they are borderline NBA players.
The point of the thread is Greek NT "scrubs coveted by the NBA." What I'm saying is : Can a top 10 or 20 player in a NT of a top basketball country like Greece actually be a scrub? Calathes is definitely not a scrub in Greece. Although he might still be a scrub in the NBA.
The whole premise of your thread is wrong.
