View Full Version : LeBron decides not to run for Players Union president

Why the hell can he not keep his mouth shut? Dude seriously needs to keep his mouth shut.

http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/9562065/lebron-james-miami-heat-run-nbpa-president-sources-say

After talking with advisors and fellow players, LeBron James has decided not to run for president of the National Basketball Players' Association, sources told ESPN.com.

James told ESPN last week he was considering running for the position, which came open this summer when Derek Fisher's term expired. According to a source, James may instead support the possible candidacy of Miami Heat teammate James Jones, who is currently the treasurer of the union.

USA Today first reported James would not seek the position.

The union, which is holding its summer meeting in Las Vegas next week, is currently in flux with no executive director and no president. Fisher and former head Billy Hunter are involved in a legal battle over Hunter's firing for misuse of union money.

"I just the think the union is going backwards and it's not in a good place right now," James said last week. "I think my voice could be huge in that situation. But I'm not sure I have the time to do it but it's something I'm going to think about with my team and go from there. But I think we all can agree there's been a lot of transition in our union in the last couple of years. If it's not me in that seat then I hope it's someone who is comfortable with it and can do the job."

Jerry Stackhouse, an executive member of the players' union, disagreed with James' assessment on Monday.

"He's the best player in the game right now and we want the entire league to be involved," Stackhouse said in a report by CBSSports.com. "But he needs to be informed in speaking on our union business."

James has gotten more involved in union business over the last two years. He attended some bargaining sessions during the 2011 lockout and then spoke up at a meeting over All-Star Weekend last season when Hunter's fate was decided.

"I don't think he's had any dialogue with anybody since the All-Star break, but it is what it is," Stackhouse told CBSSports. "To make that statement about where we are as a union right now, he was misinformed."

That's reaching pretty far if people hate on LeBron because he says he wants to do something and decides not to do it later.

And LeBron said he was "THINKING" about running for the President of the NBPA, minor detail I know.

I'm talking about his character dip shit, his makeup beyond the physical. Mentally, emotionally ... he's a coward, juvenile, un-likable, ghetto punk. No where was I talking about his abilities on the court. Whether it's on the court, or off the court, his character or lack there of comes through. In his decisions, interactions, etc.

In what world is Rose un-likeable, or ghetto? He's not childish, he isn't two faced, he's not a punk. And he certainly isn't a coward. He's shy, reserved, and naturally competitive. Guy didn't even want to recruit Wade, James, or Bosh in 2010. He wanted the team for himself. LeBron runs to help. Get off LeBron's dick. No one is debating his skills, and abilities. Merely pointing out the obvious character flaws.

Cleared by TEAM doctor, with Chicago Bulls agenda. He was taking care of his body. There is nothing wrong with that at all.

And D-fRose texted Lebron that he wanted to play with him.
Begrudgingly forced by management who was pressuring Rose to recruit. It was talked about many times here in Chicago that Rose was reluctant to do it, because he felt he was improving and wanted the team to himself. It was leaked by his camp. THAT'S a competitor who wants to prove something. He wanted to beat the Wade and LeBron's of the NBA.

Pathetic excuse. He was cleared and sat out willingly even though he didn't have any addition risk of injury compared to his normal state. Rose is the kind of guy who'd be happy collecting welfare money if he didn't have basketball talent.

Because he spoke up and seemingly showed an interest in running for union prez, then backed out while making very uninformed comments, showing that he had no real intent to involve himself with the union but just wanted to inject his name into the narrative somehow.

The comments he made when he said he didn't want to any more were worse than him saying he had interest. It went past the point of a reporter simply asking him a question and him answering it.

what's funny is that if his decisions and sense of character is so wrong, he'd be at the bottom looking up right now with his "wayward" choices (as many prefusely claim here)...however, seems he's made the correct choices majority of the way thus far

The uniformed comment - "I just the think the union is going backwards and it's not in a good place right now." The best way for a union to be broken is when members make statements like this and it's why the players ALWAYS get taken to school by the owners whenever they negotiate. (FUN FACT: As the best player in the league, LeBron would benefit if there was no union. Unions work best for the players on lower salaries.)

And he did inject his name into the narrative! When he was asked the question about the union he could have said straight away that he had no interest. Instead he shone a spotlight onto the union and himself, then said the union isn't in a great spot and walked away. Which was EASILY the worst case scenario in this situation.

You're exactly right though, he doesn't need the union president position to be relevant. Which is why him even humoring the thought of taking on the role beyond ridiculous, when he obviously wasn't serious about seeing it through.

whether he makes the statement or not, the union is broken...let's not forget that underlying fact here. there are many issues within it and Lebron's comment doesn't change the reality that it is broken. Stack can say he's "misinformed" but again the reality is, he's not and the uniion has its fair share of issues to handle.

why would he say he had no interest when he said he was interested in the spot since Fisher left. what he did say, and that many of you fail to acknowledge is that he would discuss with his team before he made any decision to actually run for the position? nothing wrong there...we see candidates do this over n over during elections in our gov't...what exactly is different here? :confusedshrug:

as far as him being serious about it...neither you or I know if he was or wasn't, it's only assumption really. but for him to discuss with his team prior to making any inapt choice to run for the spot indicates that took the consideration of the idea seriously, doesnt it?

This. Even if the union is going backwards you don't say it. Even if he did thousands of hours of due diligence and saw he couldn't help you don't allude to weakness. When he nixed the idea of becoming union prez all he had to say was some PC BS like "after careful consideration, while I'm trying to win more championships for the Heat and their fans I won't be able to commit my time as President of the NBPA, but whoever is selected as President will have my full support."

Or he could just not say things that he's going to contradict later. Both are very simple options yet seemingly evades LeBron's comprehension.
