View Full Version : One three pointer to save your life

If the chosen player makes it you live, if not you die.
No defenders or anything - who do you pick to shoot it?

For me it's a toss up between Bird and Nash.

If its a stand still, wide open three with no defenders, Id take Nash.

If it were in the flow of an offensive set and possibly contested by a defender Id take Ray Allen. Or possibly Kendrick Perkins.

Will shoot gladly for someone else's life though.

08-19-2013, 09:53 AM
Does the person shooting it know how important the shot is? If so, Larry Bird followed closely by Ray Allen.

If they don't know and someone is shooting 20 tres, and I have to choose one (say the 7th shot they take) as the one that is for my life...then def Steph Curry.

I'd shoot it myself though too. I'm a good 3 point shooter. Not better than NBA of course...but well..yeah i'd rather not put my life in someone else's hands literally.

Are they aware of the situation? Like another guy said, I'd take Nash.. his focus/concentration + disciplined repetitive work ethic makes him a very suitable candidate. Plus he seems like an incredibly genuine guy who I could put my trust in.

I'm a terrible shooter, so it'd be like committing suicide if I took the shot myself.

I'd rather trust Steve Nash to make it for me.

Well lets see what we have on the net, here is some of his gamewinners in the arbitrary cherry picked "under 24 seconds" shots http://basketball.wikia.com/wiki/User:Hornean/Archive/NBA_and_WNBA/Game-Winning_Shooters/Reggie_Miller%27s_Game-Winning_Shots

Not all of his gamewinners are there (i even have a couple of games right here with some gamewinning outcomes) and also doesnt have data i guess on his other shots, namely his gametying shots and gamewinning shots that happened with a bit more than 24 sec on the clock and simply just clutch shots which is all what Reggie has been doing for 18 years..... its hard to also find on bballreference as there is no play-by-play all the way down some decades...

Now... to the point... see the date on those shots/games and find the games/play by play (which have avaliable play-by-play at least) here http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/IND/ ... you will see that essentially ALL those shots were long distance shots....

I have been watching Reggie very carefully since the 90s and trust me when i say nothing compares to him when the scenario is 1-3 seconds left+ jumpshot... he would milk the thing out before/after like no other aswell.... just before the shot he would tell you he will hit a gamewinner then chuck one up from 30 feet in your face and with a hand in his face, swish it... give you that "i told you" stare and a chokesign, bow to the crowd and walk away..... stuff like that... he was a cocky trashtalking coldblooded assassin that was specifically deployed for 4th quarters/clutch, everybody hated him.... but he would back it up, thats what hurt the most.... it was like if you watched a horror movie, but the villain wins.... :)

kshutts1
08-20-2013, 11:05 AM
To pick an NBA player, rather than myself, it's Bird, Miller, Allen, in that order, due to their clutch shooting.

If it was just in practice, shooting around, etc... Kerr has the best career %, and 2nd highest single-season %. So why would I choose anyone but him?

Jailblazers7
08-20-2013, 11:09 AM

does this player know that he is shooting it to save my life? so it has to be someone who genuinely doesnt want someone else to die. i guess i pick bird, nash, or rayray. rayray already saved lebrons life.

You wouldn't want them to know it's a life or death shot, because that's pressure above and beyond winning a game. The more routine and relaxed the shot is, the greater the chance they'll make it.
