You guys know what I'm talking about. That Corky look, the down syndrome most kids have tend to be white. I have yet to see a black or asian person with this kind of syndrome. They may be autistic in some ways but never to the point of some white child with down syndrome.

Are white more prone to this than other ethnic groups?

Only white Americans. Those blokes aren't pure bread. They're muts.

I guess what I'm saying is asian and black features are pretty dominant, that's why they are alpha males, I don't see their features overtaken by the syndrome. I don't see them in Hispanics either.

WTF you are talking about? LOTS of black guys have it. Many times I've spoken to black guys and they respond, "I'm Down with that." Pretty honest about their handicap if you asked me.....

Maybe because you are living in a pre-dominantly white neighborhood? You see more white people than other races, hence naturally you will see a larger number of whites that look like downies.

I was used to only seeing white people with Down's, but that was when I lived in Oregon. At work in California, there was a place nearby that worked with people with Down's and I saw people of many different races with the condition.

Ha, OP is a ****ing moron, but I have to agree. I wonder if rates are lower in minority populations in the US. I even spent two years in DC (PG County) and can't remember noticing any.

From the reading I've done this morning seems it's not an ethnic or racial thing but more dependent on the age of the mother. There's more Hispanic Downs kids but it's because there's more older Hispanic mothers many of which are Catholic so birth control to begin with or after pregnant an abortion isn't an option.

If you adjust for social or economic triggers by removing them, it's an equal opportunity disability not prone to any one group of people

Yep, I can definitely see that. I know an older hispanic woman who is Catholic and has two down syndrome children for that very reason.

There is no racial component to Down Syndrome (not Downs).

As others have noted, research shows that maternal age seems to be the greatest determining factor.

The only data that reflects on race indicates that whites with DS tend to outlive their black counterparts by a significant margin.

Down syndrome prevalence is known to vary by race/ethnicity. Hispanic infants were found to exhibit higher rates of Down syndrome than other infants, even after differences in maternal age were considered (CDC 1994). Rates for Hispanic, white, and African American infants were respectively 11.8, 9.2 and 7.3 per 10,000 live births (CDC 1994). This may be due partly to differential use of prenatal diagnosis services. Racial composition of women who use prenatal screening services varied from the racial composition of the U.S. population (Meaney 1993), though racial difference in usage was not found in another study (Naber 1987). Also, use of prenatal diagnosis services and abortion significantly reduced the birth prevalence of Down syndrome among white women but not among women of other races in Atlanta (Krivchenia 1993). That was not supported in a Los Angeles study ( Wilson 1992). Racial differences may also reflect differential under-diagnosis of the defect at birth.

20 year old studies. More recent indicate that the racial difference is insignificant, with the major factor being maternal age.

Well then it makes sense. The racial component exists and is clear. Less than 15% of the population, significantly different maternal age, and significantly different pre and post natal care. These would all lead to far less contact with black kids who have DS.

That only concerning Downs kids with heart defects. It's not about the topic in the OP.

I almost fell for the same link until I realized it was about heart defects in down kids by race.

Access to better medical care most likely reason for this. There are certain medical needs associated with downs Syndrome and they're not cheap.
