Anyone watching this drivel is pathetic.

Tomorrow people will complain how Americans dont have jobs. Americans cant find work. The poor are oppressed. Rich people are screwing everyone.

Nobody will ask how the poor people spent their Sunday night. Studying up on investing? Learning a language? Building something they need instead of having to buy it from someone else?

No, lower income people are entitled to watch countless hours of shame and smut, then be outraged when their masterful skills of flipping a nob up and down are outsourced, and the damn gubment isnt givin em enough money and makin new jobs for em!

Honestly, every immigrant who came here pre-1950 is rolling over in their grave. Not at Mitt Romney. At the lazy, moronic, apathetic ****tarded public. Who, tomorrow, will cry with their hands out after spending three hours Sunday evening watching the VMAs

Dude Ive lived at the bottom. Ive done medical studies for money, Ive sat in the audience on game shows for minimum wage. I worked at a sausage factory in the absolute middle of Nowhere, Texas. I have ****ing sucked dick for cocaine. Wait, not that last one. Ive slept in my car and when my car got towed, I slept in a laundry room. Ive turned DOWN money to try and do things my way. Let me tell you, its damn hard and Im not there yet. But Im healthy and I have a brain, theres no excuse to whine.

Today I finished a novel (Brave New World) and am teaching myself video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro. Tomorrow? Ill practice my Chinese.

They all did. It's not like there's ever been a year in which the show had dignity.

My point in this thread has been missed anyway. I'm not saying people can't or shouldn't enjoy leisure time. But if the talentless TMZ-a-thon that is the VMA's is what stimulates people? That's HOW they choose to spend their free time? Oggling some freak show trainwreck while she "twerks it" on some talentless vanilla ice ripoffs lap to music nobody could possibly like?

These are people nobody should have sympathy for. Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4d4oXt0dTw) an excellent civil war documentary on General Grant vs General Lee. But you guys don't want it. What will you talk about with all the ignoramuses you work with tomorrow at the watercooler? None of those rubes will know anything about history, and so how will you socialize? Might as well just stoop yourself to the lowest common denominator, so that you can fit in with all the others in the pack. Let your mind rot. Let it rot, B-Low! Watch the silly VMAs. Of course, you're not one of these pathetic, hypocritical political whiners like Sarcastic and nathanjizz. But that's because you don't even participate at all! On the one hand, I respect you for demurring when you don't know what's going on unlike the aforementioned two. On the other hand, how could I ever be troubled to help you if I found out you were laid off work, the one job you ever bothered to learn to do, and then couldn't support yourself? You have ample time to round yourself out. Not just you, but virtually everyone in this country.

And they squander it. Ignorance and apathy has become the everyman's creed. And losers like Sarcastic and nathan jizz and all the other "wannabe mothers" here will cry out as if these poor people have been victimized. Hah! Victimized, living in America. No, women who live in India are victimized. Jews who lived in Germany were victimized. Blacks who lived in Antebellum were victimized. Idle, internet-dwelling 2013 middle class kids in America who have the freedom to do ANYTHING, and use it to watch the VMAs are not victimized. And many of them will do absolutely nothing with themselves. And losers on the left will call it injustice. Instead of calling it lazy.

This is the problem when young girls get into showbiz because they're adorable when they're young, but don't actually have any talent.

Once they're all grown up and can't play the 'tween idol' role any longer, and the reality hits that they can't ACTUALLY sing nor ACTUALLY act... they're left with two choices. Fade away and move on to a life outside the spotlight... or desperately, shamelessly sell their bodies for continued fame. This performance of hers is a loudspeaker announcement of "I HAVE NO TALENT. PLEASE USE ME FOR JERKING MATERIAL." That's her prerogative, but why would you spend 1:30:00 watching that nonsense when you could take five minutes to go to a porn site, jerk off, then do something productive?

I just don't understand where people's minds are these days. And to that end, it's time for me to quit posting for tonight and resume a meaningful life.

Enjoy the rest of the VMA's everybody.

lol this dude is having a f*ckin meltdown because people are watching an award show on a Sunday night.

Like other people have said quit tryin to group everyone together and make assumptions. I got up this morning, went to church, met with a friend for lunch, went for a 3 hour hike in the park, visited some family then came home and watched some TV to relax. And guess what? Now I'm gonna iron my clothes for work tomorrow then get up and work my 8-5 in the morning.

But of course in your eyes going to church, socializing with friends, staying active, bonding with family and working a 9 hour work day = a hollow existence because I decided to end the day by watching an award show instead of some Summer re-runs on TV. Makes plenty of sense

No we're all making bizarrely similar assumptions about what was more than likely happening on the event that nobody was watching.

But thanks it wouldn't be an award show discussion thread without someone coming in and saying "people still watch ______?"

Wash, rinse, repeat for the Grammys, Oscars and Emmys

Well let's see after a quick Google search of ISH and VMA's, I see in 2010 you felt the need to come in and let everyone know that you dont watch the VMA's anymore

http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=190047&page=2

Fast forward to the next year 2011 when you DID watch the show, but only to complain about how horrible it was of course.

http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=233486&page=15

Then now in 2013 you're back to announcing that you don't watch it anymore. At least youre consistent every year with being shocked that people still watch it, despite the fact that you've participated in the thread every single year since you've been on the board

You'd think after all this time it'd be in your head that yes, people (including you some years) do still watch it. But of course during the 2014 awards I'm sure you'll pop up yet again just SHOCKED that people are watching the awards. Because you were clearly completely unaware. :applause:

I'm sorry if I came off as an arrogant lout in this thread, but the fact is this is point blank indicative of how misguided people are about things.

Have you seen the "Batman is Ben Affleck" thread in this forum?? 13 pages! Thirteen pages of discussion about how Ben Affleck will wear a silly plastic suit with perky ears and pretend he can fly. IMPORTANT topics about issues of real relevance in America rarely go past 5. Kobe vs. Lebron breaks 1,000.

Haven't you guys seen enough Batman???? It's the same movie OVER AND OVER. He wears a silly outfit with perked up ears, he fights cartoon bad guys, has a love interest on the side, and eventually wins and "saves the planet." It's the same drivel over and over, but that's not even what gets me about how much you guys love it. What gets me is, some rich jewish studio executive is making BANK off you guys eating this crap up on your own free will, every time they put it out, then you'll turn around and talk about how rich people have "rigged the system" and all your left wing diaper-wetting nonsense. You are throwing money at someone in exchange for him throwing feces back at you on a movie screen, and then you're complaining that you don't have any money!

****ing ridiculous state of affairs. Get your shit together, gents.

dont toot your own horn. you didnt come off as arrogant. you came off as a bitter degenerate.

Yep, altho just blaming Miley takes the easy way out, if thats what anyone is doing.

Its the producers who decide how this stuff goes down. And how do they decide? Simply by what they know viewers will watch.

The average person doesnt know what quality is if it smacks them in the god damn face. Theyre happy to settle for raunchy celebrity shock video. Thats the standard today.

Its watercooler talk. Nobody wants to watch an engaging science documentary on a Sunday night, because theyll miss out on the program everyone else is gonna watch and talk about at work and on facebook and so forth.

Entertainment media is geared for the broadest audiece possible. And the broadest part of any pyramid is the bottom. People actually want to fit in more than they want to learn, be stimulated, be engaged. They could literally air ANYTHING on the vmas (rather anything that requires no thought or understanding), and folks will watch because they need to be part of the next days social conversation. Theyre afraid to be left out. So they have to see what ridiculous sideshow of smut took place on the televitz. Its more important that they watch what everyone elses watching than it is they watch something WORTH watching.

I thought it was more creepy that outrageous. Note to Robin Thicke, you're old. If your'e old and that's grinding on you, you look creepy. Lucky, but creepy. If you think about it though, she's not really doing anything bad, she smokes pot (OMG!) , drinks and parties, isn't having huge orgies, coke parties, etc. she is just trying to forge in a very obvious way a slutty image. Which is better than having a nice image, and being in rehab or selling yourself for money to old men.

Very cringe worthy. But if she wants to stay famous, she has no real choice. Now that shes too old to be a disney starlet, its apparent shes not actually GOOD at singing or dancing or acting or anything. Her only option is to forfeit her dignity on the public stage. Thats what America wants anyway. Thats what reality television is all about. People wanna see others humiliate themselves. Thats your ratings grabber.

Of course, those of us who are still drawn to artistic merit are all but an extinct breed. This is the Reality-TMZ-Facebook age. We dont watch professionals perform anymore. We watch amateurs live, and just hope something goes wrong while the cameras are rolling.

Well I did my part by not watching, I had no idea it was even on until I saw the thread on this board.

I cant name one song by nicki minaj nor do i even know what she looks like. ive never watched american idol or x factor or nanny 911 or survivor or amazing race any of that. i've never seen a music video for "justin bieber ft. ludacris and lil wayne remix by skrillex and/or dj khaled".

I don't think she's very talented but it was an excellent performance and she played the role of a 20 year old who's trying to be sexy. Look at the lyrics to Blurred Lines and the uncensored version with the naked chicks. She was the dirty and sexy version of the naked chicks in that video.

I said very little about the performance itself since I didn't see it. I brought up other related issues that I felt tied into the bigger picture of the VMAs.

And my original point was that people (not you) on this board are constantly complaining about the "wealth gap" and how the uber rich are greedy monopolizers conspiring to wipe out the middle class. MTV executives, Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke are all rich. Straight up millionaires. And the people who are COMPLAINING ABOUT MILLIONAIRES are the same exact poser intellectual progressives who watch this stuff and GIVE THESE PEOPLE THEIR MILLIONS.

It's like, if you got a problem with the wealth gap, why are you watching the VMA's??? Study something. Practice something. Work on something. Nobody is MAKING you waste your time! And if you don't want to do any of those things, you'd rather just watch the VMAs? Totally your choice. But the VMA's arent even good entertainment if you're actually looking to enjoy some leisure time. So at least SHUT THE **** UP if you're not gonna actually do anything. Ok Sarcastic? Ok Niko? Bagelred? Nathan Jizzface? Kevinnyc? HenryCallahn?

It's like betting your entire stack on a TERRIBLE hand in poker, losing, then complaining you got a bad hand! Yeah, but nobody made you play it like a damn fool! Maybe you don't get dealt a good hand. Not everybody does. Doesn't mean you should play it like an absolute moron and then blame the dealer when you get knocked out.

I dont think Im that smart or any more special than anyone else, but I do pride myself in getting the most out of whats really fulfilling and enjoying out there especially as far as media and communication are concerned. There are so many things out there one can enjoy that ALSO develop him as a person. I truly wish more people would take up those kinds of interests. Because that, more than any guy on wall street or in beverly hills is what holds most of the public back. You drive across America (and I have) and you see people spending whatever money they get on cigarettes, lottery tickets, tattoos, junk food, jewelry etc, and compound that by never doing anything intellectually to advance themselves. No reading, no sciece or history documentaries, no practicing new skills, learning computers, traveling, volunteering, nothing. The lower class is CONTENT to drink beer and tattoo their necks, fight over bf/gf drama and generally live like rats inside a cage. What are you supposed to do? You think stealing money from executives, innovators, engineers, and the people in society who are already proppin the tent up will do anything? What will it do? If I go shoot a million dollars in cash out a cannon at a herd of cattle on a ranch, are they gonna use it? They couldnt even if you wanted them to. How could they? Its just not their mentality. Well what if you sit there and explain it to them? Then will they understand?

I wanna see everyone do well and be successful of course. But it has to start with a certain mindset, and a lot of people just simply have no ambition. Everyone always blames the wealthy for being ambitious. Thats not the problem in this country. Ben Franklin and Rockefeller and Carnegie and others made lots of money, and it didnt harm the economy. Just the opposite in fact. The people making money today, as long as its not trough scam and fraud and so forth like bernie madoff, are not the problem. The problem is the apathy at the bottom. Neck tattoo guy never sailed here on a ship infested with diseased rats to escape a famine in Ireland or Poland. He doesnt have to build his own shelter, and the government gives him enough in food stamps to keep the fridge filled with popcorn shrimp and reecees peanut butter cups. He simply does not give a Fukc. Whats education to him? Whats a promotion to him? Hes got all he needs, and apparently all he wants. When he doesnt budget, knocks up a chick, then also needs to get a truck repair and money is suddenly tight, college liberal guy comes swooping in to play Superman. "Arghhh, Mitt Romney! You dont know what its like! You have tons of money you jerk!!!!!" What makes Mitt Romney any more of a jerk than Neck Tat? Neck tat collects welfare and probably beats his wife. Youre mad at Mitt Romney for putting on a crisply ironed shirt and goin to work everyday? You just cant stomache the reality of people reaping what they sow in life. At least in America. We are so fortunate, we have the technology to learn any number of things instead of living in a little house on the prairie with no air conditioning or running water and a cornfield that we'll probably break our backs tilling all our lives. **** these loser complainer wannabe-intellectual emasculated liberal losers. They wanna baby every one and every thing. Just to create a group of people who will love them and thank them and validate them. Theyre needy mothers. Got no sense of self worth and capability so they appoint themselves Armchair Babysitter of the low income and middle class. Hope it creates some sort of sense of importance for themselves. Cause without they simply have nothing to do with their time. Take up a hobby bitch. How bout you pick up a saxophone. Music needs more saxophone these days. Challenge yourself to learn sax, or harmonica. Challenge yourself to learn particle physics. We dont need more armchair babysitters trying to fill the void in their confused and bored lives with doofy idealistic political rhetoric. Its all you have to make yourself feel cool. Without it you have no interest, no outstanding qaualities. Like I said, pick up a saxophone. We'll all be better off.

Everything you say is just common sense. You're not saying anything insightful. People have survival instincts and get complacent, WE KNOW.

How is watching the VMA's any different than watching a stupid ass NBA game? Does watching morons run up and down the court for 3 hours benefit society? You're getting mad about idiots who don't know what they're talking about? They're lazy brainwashed idiots. We all know the people who complain about rich people/ they're the lazy brainwashed excuse making morons who are genetically inferior to myself. Get over it, and watch Miley make a fool of herself for your entertainment you ****ing complainer

Hey dont tell me. Tell KevinNYC. Tell Sarcastic. And Niko.

Tell the MILLIONS of young people who want to raise taxes, expand entitlements, stifle freedom, make excuses.

Its common sense to me. And to a gimmick like you. But not to at least half the country.

As far as watchin bball, watching talented professionals compete at the highest level of athletics is both stimulating and relaxing. If history is any indicator it always has been. Of course you still cant spend too much time doing it (And I probably have spent too much time doing it which I regret).

Watching the VMAs is watching and supporting the disintegration of real art and entertainment. Its nothing but celebrity-obsessed smut at this point. And my point, which you missed, is the audience is mostly young people. Who, when polled, will demand the government absolve their student loan debt. And create more phony jobs for them. Raise the minimum wage. Expand healthcare. Do all this stuff for them. While they do what? Watch a gurl who cant sing gyrate her dignity away on stage with a cheap pyrotechnic backdrop. Oh, brave new world..

So a subjective feeling of well being and satisfaction makes it ok to watch the NBA, but not ok for the youngsters watching the VMA's for the same reason? The NBA itself is celebrity-obsessed smut. And my point, which you missed, is the audience is mostly young people, Who, when polled, will demand the government absolve their student loan debt. And create more phony jobs for them. Entertainment is entertainment, the same people watching the VMA's and talking about Drake, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga are the same people watching the NBA and talking about LeBron, Kobe, and Kendrick Perkins.

Difference is that athletics, in my opinion, are a performance art. They require talent, precision, strategy, and the fact they arent scripted can provide great moments of palpable competiive drama. They are not a denigrated bastardization of entertainment disciplines that used to be taken seriously, like the VMAs are. Youre right, its up to each person how they view the distinction. I personally view it as significat.

And I do believe there is a different level of satisfaction tht comes from seeing a really great performance, versus a MTV/TMZ sideshow of debauchery. Have you ever gone to a play or a concert or a game 7 and left the venue with your friends or your family or your girl on a total high because you just saw something that really wowed you, that really connected with you? I feel thats a lot more stimulating and satisfying on a personal level than watching Miley embarrass herself. But the majority dont think so and the numbers prove it. Most people will simply watch anything. Theyre just killin time I guess.

Im pretty passionate about culture so I guess maybe Im just an extremist about this VMA stuff. I really do think it rots your brain tho, figuratively. Its like a microwave burrito vs a fresh, authentic burrito. Theyre both calories in the end I suppose. One is cheap, very quickly prepared, the epitome of unnuanced convenience. But the other is more savory, more satisfying. You dont demand performances that feature harmonies from kick ass backup singers (criminally under-used today) or interludes with trumpet and sax and piano? You wont get it. We arent getting it and I think thats such a shame. That stuff takes time and money and discipline to orchestrate and work into the production. Networks arent gonna pony up for that if Joe Shmoe doesnt care any way. Hes ok watching Mileys pancake butt jiggle and gossipping about it on Facebook for the next two weeks. Ok. Hey hey what can I do? Thats where we're at.

Woe is me. :(

I could give a rat's ass about Miley.

Justin Timberlake's twenty minute medley comprising many of the biggest hits in his career was well worth watching the VMA's for.. As great as his singing was, he was as good as if not better than his back-up dancers in the execution of choreography while managing to hit every note. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on that, Starface, since you seem to think the awards show was only about Miley's egregious display.

Sure.

I didnt see Timberlake, since I didnt watch any of the program. Unfortunately I dont have any trust in programs like the VMAs not to waste my time, so consequently I do miss anything that airs that may have been worthwhile.

Im actually not familiar with any of JTs post n*sync career. Thats not a knock, maybe hes great, I just never familiarized myself with his music. Theres some nsync and backstreet songs I have no problem admitting to liking. So maybe Id like JT but as it is I can only name the song Cry me a River by him. It sounds like his performance the other night was very well received, if I legitimately missed a great show that def sucks. Maybe Ill check it on Youtube if its on there when I get a chance.

Wont likely change my opinion that "entertainment" today is mostly about finding the hottest person willing to take off their clothes and then purporting them to be a "singer." Of course there are exceptions tho. There are always exceptions to everything. I would never say there arent.
