But it's possible it could be better. He's obviously not the same person, he's matured, and his style and tone has changed subsequently.

I personally guarantee that this album will be better than GKMC

I feel you, I hope he goes back to his old ways.

Common misconception but he wasn't on drugs for his first 2 albums.

Dude said in an interview he didn't even have his first beer until he was 21 or older. Same interview said he was clean for TSSLP & TMMLP..

The eminem show..that's the MM you're taking about..

When I say clean or when he says clean i supposes..doesn't mean he'd pass a UA, but he wasn't a full blown addict with a serious problem

His first 3 albums released on a major were great, fourth was meh, and the last two were terrible. This snippet sounds like overproduced sh*t, similar to Recovery. That being said, I will check it just because it's Eminem.

Naming that will probably get it more sales, so he wins even if his album sucks and is nothing like the original Marshall Mathers LP.

Anyway though, I'll be waiting for it and it'll probably be one of the five hip hop albums I will have downloaded in 2013 (so far: Born Sinner, Magna Carter Holy Grail, and Joe Budden's album)

Track is genius. His flow over the beat is executed to perfection and a nice tribute to the beastie boys.

Eminem is the greatest hip hop artist of all time, it's not really that close at all. Nas just doesn't have a case over EM.

This album is already a classic with this one song. If there's one human being I get butterflies for, it's Marshall Mathers.

Agreed. I thought it was awkward at first but once you can predict the structure it gets better. Songs are accepted faster when people can make accurate predictions about the content of the song because they get a positive feedback message (in the form of dopamine). When you have a song that is unusual it takes awhile before you can be rewarded because you need to learn the song first.

This is why most basic pop songs are popular, they are easily predictable and therefore are basically instantly rewarding to the listener.

He does sound nerdy on his own albums, but those really are geared toward suburban skateboarders.

His guest spots on other gangsta rappers albums tho are legendary. When hes not rapping about "homosexuals and vicodin" on his own albums his gangster stuff is straight flame thrower.

I enjoyed "Just don't give a F***" and "Still Don't Give a F****" so hopefully "Never gave a F***" can be up to par.

And honestly, I know some people saying the older Eminem can never produce something like "Rock Bottom" or "Kim" but lyrically and delivery-wise he was on point with his verse on "Forever" with Drake, and I'd consider that new-school Eminem.

Just2McFly
09-24-2013, 01:04 PM
That track with fifty might be a banger. I don't know about Em, I honestly think he's lost it and will never get it back. It just seems like the last time I heard a verse that made my eyes pop from him was the "No Love" track from Recovery and that album was a bit hit and miss from me. Almost every single featuring verse I have heard from the man since then has been facepalm inducing outside of the tracks with 50 and Nicki Minaj.

I heard the single "Berzerk" and I just couldn't get into it but I do think it was a brilliant move to make that the lead single because those are the kind of songs that only Eminem could do and distinguishes him from the rest of the pack in terms of rappers. It just isn't my style.

I'm hoping that the album cuts are carrying some major heat on them though. It seems like he has every one I expected him to have as far as featuring artists go and some cool surprises as well.

When I saw " The Return of Slim Shady " the chills that went down my spine.... words can not describe.

There is always going to be debate on the GOAT in rap/hip hop. All I know is Enimem is at the very least on the Mount Rushmore. The his impact he had on youth, culture, society in general at his peak you had to live through it to understand.

Kids today simply don't understand.

he just said anytime he raps he wants to be better than everyone else.

Rihanna always kills when she gets together with Em. Although Em was a bit weak in this song. Should've made it more pop, since it's a pop song but he was trying to be too lyrical and it doesn't go too well with Rihanna's chorus.

That's a funny comment because a)he's widely considered one of the best rappers of all time, and so far his songs have proven to be very solid on this new album. And b) this comment is coming from someone who thinks he has a chance of making it in the rap game when in fact he has absolutely nothing going for him.

Just shows how far some people's delusions go, it's a scary world we live in.

I never thought I'd say this, but at this point in their careers, I'd rather listen to Mac Miller them Em.

Mac Miller makes some cool music. But he is such a little cornball and poser. Plus his lyrics lack the sophistication and depth that Eminems do.

Im a huge Em fan, although his best days and albums are behind him, Eminem is doing things hes never done before, and his lyricism is off the charts right now, better than its ever been. His content has changed up, hes not as angry, and not as "gangster" as he used to be. He has grown up, most people are a lot different at 37 compared to 23. Hes not the same person any more, hes not going to rap about the same things he once did, as an artist you grow and mature and so does your music. I think MMLP2 will be a dope album and a great representation of Eminem's abilities.

Theres not another rapper alive with Eminem's resume. And Kendrick is the only rapper right now that can give Slim a run for his money.

each of his songs in 2013 got 20 million plus views. NO other rapper has that attraction power. it takes a rappers "pop" song to generate that view total. Em has done it with EVERY song released in 2013 so far.

went through the entire album(skipped monster of course) and the first listen verdict: 8/10. didn't blow me away, but it was good. i wasn't expecting him to outdo mmlp1, but was expecting him to take it back which he did a bit of.

Love Game was a huge letdown, probably because i was expecting something different and for it to be a serious song.

The singers on Legacy and Asshole, imo, did a much better job than rihanna did on monster.that monster track was just a mistake by Em. Only tracks that will not be on repeat are berzerk, monster, and love game.

As a whole project, mmlp2>recovery.

Flow on Brainless and Rap God are great. The second half of Bad Guy is amazing, where he's rapping as Stan's little brother, and then the beat switch. Just great stuff.

Headlights, Legacy and Stronger Than I Was are great, meaningful songs as well. And none of them are too poppy like the shitty singles we got. Outside of The Monster/Survival/Asshole/Berzerk. All the songs have replay value. I wish he and Kendrick went a little more serious on Love Game but it's different, I wouldn't say I disliked it but something put me off.

This is his best work since The Eminem Show in my opinion. Of course, it needs more time to set in but that's what it feels like right now. Solid 8 or 8.5/10.

yall need to check out " Headlights " so much emotion he puts into this music, whether that is angry or sorrow its still emotion, em writes his own music PEN AND PAPER shyt. Jay-Z doesn't do that.

And with Album i literally only care about the Top 4-5 songs. It is rare that an album has 10-12 good songs.

He said he wouldn't be naming it MMLP2 if it didn't meet the standards of the previous. Comparing this to mmlp1, unfortunately it is a letdown. I think the biggest problem with Em these last two albums has been his choices in production/producers. He needs more DRE and Bass brothers. Too many singers on his hooks/chorus as of late too.

I agree, his lyrics are rarely the problem, it's his beats that should be questioned. For example Bad Guy could've been crazy with a better beat, like something dark or gritty, and him doing the hook.

here's an interesting take........

...The MMLP 2 is meant to remind us that he's still a presence in pop music even if he's no longer exactly present.

Even on a record that ostensibly revisits a moment when he was unquestionably at the center of youth culture, Eminem remains safely sequestered at an undisclosed location.

...Eminem is consciously hearkening back to the zeitgeist-iest period of his career at a time when his place in pop culture is curiously difficult to discern.

....I don't know if it was due to my low expectations after the 12-step drudgery of 2010's Recovery or my soft spot for byzantine rhymes spit over post–Hotel California cocaine-and-caviar arena rock, but The Marshall Mathers LP 2 worked shockingly well for me for long stretches at a time.

With a running time topping 78 minutes, LP 2 is thick with long, intermittently effective stretches.

...My favorite song by a mile, "So Far …," culminates with Eminem preemptively apologizing to "technology" for his bitching about the difficulty of downloading the new Ludacris song. Later he complains that he can't get a Kool-Aid stain out of his couch.

...Eminem is the most nakedly self-obsessed pop star of the last 20 years.

Eminem's extreme solipsism has long been his privilege as rap's most prominent Caucasian. For reasons that are deeply unfair and yet readily apparent, he is not saddled with the same baggage as his superstar contemporaries.

However Eminem chooses to behave, his actions will not be imbued with a larger cultural meaning that's applicable to millions of people who vaguely resemble Eminem but aren't Eminem. If Eminem appears on national television with Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit and acts like a socially awkward pop star, he's perceived as a socially awkward pop star, not as a symbol for how the media addresses matters of race and class.

In the early '00s, Eminem deliberately trolled the media into depicting him as a public menace, but he also had the choice to back off. Now, nobody is examining Eminem's persona in order to understand modern society. Eminem signifies nothing other than himself.

Kanye West doesn't get the benefit of being perceived as an individual when he talks about sport-fukcing white women, nor does Jay Z when he runs through an inventory of his Basquiats. They represent something bigger, even when they're merely relating their own thoughts and experiences. This is a tremendous burden, but because Kanye and Jay have embraced that burden and chosen to incorporate it, their music has attained a richness that an infinitely more insular record like The MMLP 2 seems incapable of achieving.

If Eminem is no longer interested in connecting with modern pop culture — and the weird callouts to 'N Sync, the Backstreet Boys, Jerry Mathers, and Lorena Bobbitt in the album-closing "Evil Twin" strongly suggest that he's not — modern pop culture will not require him to do so against his will. He doesn't have to matter like that anymore.

It would be incorrect to suggest that Eminem is an irrelevant artist — in pop terms, he's outpaced saleswise by Adele but can still run with Taylor Swift. Also, he can still rap his ass off. (The polysyllabic pyrotechnics of "Rap God" might be empty exhibitionism, but what an exhibition!) But he now occupies the same place in culture as things like NCIS and the stealth summer blockbuster We're the Millers. He's hugely popular without being the least bit transcendent, a lonely artist who makes you feel alone for listening to him.link (http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9925366/eminem-marshall-mathers-lp-2-review)

I actually like the way he was angrily rapping his verses...it didn't seem forced or just for the sake of doing it like his last couple of albums. For the first time since MMLP, his Slim Shady alter ego seemed to come out, and it's like he loses control during a song and flips the switch from Eminem and Slim Shady. I really like the album, I'm ranking it as his third best behind the SSLP and MMLP. He went back to his roots....making music for people to listen to when they feel shitty about themselves And I love the Busta Rhymes-like flow on tracks like Rap God and Love Game. Evil Twin, Rap God, and Legacy are my 3 favorite tracks.

Hey you guys need to listen to Stan then Bad Guy ( Stan part 2 ) . Unbelievable what a lyrical genius 15 minutes of genius. This sequence alone solidify Eminem on the Mount Rushmore of Rap/HipHop. Easily Top 4 of All-Time. Biggie nor Tupac could story tell like Em can. blew my mind listening to this sequence.

Bad Guy -- Stan's little brother mathew comes to kill eminem, then eminem conscience takes over after he dies.
