You know that sense of awe that you get during a movie because of how great the acting is. It's like you're in front of greatness and you know it. This doesn't happen often. Very rarely I should say. Did not happen with Meryl Streep as Julia Child, Jennifer Lawrence as Tiffany in 'Silver Linings Playbook', Susan Sarandon as Sister Helen Prejean in 'Dead Man Walking', etc.

Three acting job that makes me notice their greatness DURING the movie...in no order:

1. Bette Davis as Margo in 'All About Eve'

2. Ellen Burstyn as Sara Goldfarb in 'Requiem for a Dream'

3. Marion Cotillard as St

You forgot Kristen Stewart from Twilight.

She was much better in her younger years (Panic Room). But, I've been wanting to see 'The Runaways' for a while. Heard good things about her performance in that.

1st time discovering who she was. Still my favorite performance of hers to date.

Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine.

I love anything with Katharine Hepburn, but that might just be me.

Even if she was truly pregnant like that, I would still absolutely devastate Amy Adams' genitals with my own.

A couple of my recent-ish favourites:

Rooney Mara - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Kate Winslet - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Kate Hudson - Almost Famous (total Oscar robbery here)

Rooney Mara - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I really loved this too.

Haven't seen the Swedish original, but I can somewhat tell by looking at the chick in fotos and how her expression is that I would probably prefer Rooney's darker take.

Kate Winslet is consistently strong... aside from the performances mentioned, I was also moved by 'Revolutionary Road' and 'Little Children'.

Jessica Chastain in 'Take Shelter' is another one that comes to mind.

It was either Eternal Sunshine or Little Children for my Winslet pick. Little Children is very underrated despite all the award buzz it originally got.

Both performances and movies were great but, IMO, both the American movie and Mara were a little bit better. There are slight differences in the performances where Mara is a bit of a quieter and more vulnerable Lisbeth. I really hope Fincher and the whole cast find the time to make the other two movies in the series.
