Irving will be the best PG within 3 years max. Waiters, it is your turn.

If he lives up to what he claims, the Cavs are a dynasty in the making.

Phew. I assumed by the thread title the Cavs had sent him down to the NBDL.

Dion has a really high ceiling. It's a shame that every thread about him invariably turns into dion vs. beal (and then by proxy wall vs irving).

That's going to be a really fun matchup to watch in the future.

Is it possible in 2 years, irving become best pg, waiter become best sg, lebron comes home and is best sf, Anthony with his no.1 pick potential become best pf and bynum stays healthy will be best center?

Cav have best player in every posistion !!!

I expect a breakout season from him, i love his game. Now he even has a really good team, in 2 years Cavs will be a legit contender again.

Love the confidence. How has he forgot about guys like Harden and Klay thompson. Also even though his career has been injury riddled Eric Gordon. Waiters maybe after next season puts himself into the top 10 SG list in the nba.

What helps is that he has the elite ability to get to the rim. I don't know if he will ever be the best, but he will be a stud imo.

People handle their business differently. I'm not a fan of this, but I just want him to produce - period. I would normally want others to say our players are good, not themselves.

Kyrie has taken this team on a few trips this summer to workout/grow as a team. Dion has been there.

Let's hope for the best.

Kobe, Wade, JJ and Manu will retire very soon so he will not have a lot of competition to become the best sg... Harden, maybe Gordon (if he stays healthy), Thompson...

We're in a pg era

Although I like the confidence, he literally has no shot at ever being the best SG in the NBA.

He's never lacked confidence and I can appreciate that.

He still looks like Rodney Stuckey to me. And no version of Stuckey (even a better one) could ever become the best shooting guard in the league. The shooting guard future is terrible, tho. After Harden, there's not a single young shooting guard I can see becoming a star level player.

People shouldn't sleep on Dion. The kid is gonna be an all-star.

Best SG in the league maybe not, but I see definite potential for him to be a perennial 20+ppg player and a legit #2 option.

Maybe I'm wearing homer glasses, but I really do think he has great potential. He put up pretty respectable numbers as a rookie, and in the off-season has worked hard on his game and conditioning. I think he will only continue to get better.

waiters is better off the dribble than all of those guys, except harden, already. he definitely has the potential to be better than all those guys, except harden imo.

he probably wont max out his potential, (he almost definitely wont), but he has a lot of talent.

even as a spot up shooter he actually posted great efficiency, its just he took too many bad threes off the dribble, that it draffed down his 3pt shooting %

chips93
09-01-2013, 06:47 AM
kyrie is more or less guaranteed to be getting 20 a night for the next few years, and very few backcourts have had both guards get 20ppg, so dion is unlikely to really max out his potential with irving being so established already.

DukeDelonte13
09-01-2013, 10:28 AM
People that actually have watched Dion play more than 2 games already know he's going to be a stud.

People just remember his shaky start and his draft position and he's never been able to shake that stigma despite his improved efficiency, the monster games he's had, the all rookie selection, the team usa invite, etc.

Are people really dumb enough to place klay ****ing Thompson and Eric "hasn't been healthy since he was born" Gordon over him? Literally only harden has a case over him and he's got equal opportunity with beal. If Kobe said this his second year would anyone have believed it?

Future is Harden followed by Beal or Waiters. Thompson has no handles. Gordon has more or less peaked and is always injured. All other prospects suck.

Waiters has a higher ceiling due to his handles and mentality, but Beal was the better player at the end of the last season.

What is in your mind made you list him? Really? 0 playmaking, very terrible 1 on 1 game, defense is terrible....his upside is not very high at all.

I'd agree Beal was better by the end but not by much and they both markedly improved over the course of the season. I don't watch much Beal but I feel like Waiters has more defensive upside.

Beal and Waiters were as close to even last season as any two players you will find. They have completely different games and skillsets, but they literally went hand-in-hand last year.

They both started the season with a lot of inconsistency and improved as the season went along. Their final numbers were essentially carbon copies...

Waiters - 29 minutes, 14.7 points on 41.2% FG, 3.0 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 2.0 turnovers

Beal - 31 minutes, 13.9 points on 41.0% FG, 2.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 0.9 steals, 1.6 turnovers

The thing that Waiters has which is impossible to teach is a lethal first step. That in addition to his being built like a tank and good ball-handling skills make him very difficult to stop getting to the rim. He needs to improve his jumpshot, but he made some significant leaps last year in the last couple months of the season. I can understand why not many people saw it, because only really devoted fans stuck with the Cavs those last 30 games or so... But his improvement was pretty dramatic for a young rookie.

In his last 25 games, he was averaging 16 points on nearly 49% from the field.

Can he become the best in the league? That's not exactly something you can anticipate, but he has as good a shot as any other young player out there not named James Harden. And, I've always looked at Harden as more of a PG anyway.

I dunno how I feel about such a statement. I don't evaluate it based on its truth... which hasn't been good yet, but he's kinda gone to a new team, so it's different.

I try to use myself and imagine in these cases. I can't imagine saying that particular thing about something. I would say it was my goal, but saying I will is just setting yourself up. I mean, being the best is what everyone thinks of in the weight room and offseason, I'm sure. Unless they were some guy that was undrafted or shit on and they're just like "I'll prove I belong!" I'm sure that's the goal, and SG is pretty wide open. No ATG players at that slot right now. Still, it's premature.

Some people think it's like the FT line, where anyone can be great if they work, but no. You have to learn. You have to have moments where things make more sense. Some people really don't. Like JR Smith has a ton of talent, but I wonder if it ever clicked for him. You have to understand how the defense moves and be able to predict behavior of defenders as well as your team in order to be the best. No matter how hard you work.

I'm 'selling' this. Even as a dream of his.
