Usually, if you're the highest-paid player on an NBA team, your role is pretty well-defined.

Leader. Top option on offense. Go-to guy in the closing minutes of a tight game.

But that isn't the case with Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire.

Due to factors largely outside of his control (knee injuries, the Knicks' acquisition of Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler), Stoudemire's role with the team has been in flux for much of his tenure in New York.

This year is no different. Stoudemire will be on a minutes limit to protect his knees. He likely will play no more than 20 minutes a night. It's unclear, at this point, how the Knicks' coaching staff will use Stoudemire.

Backup center

:oldlol: How did it come to this. $100 million for a back up center. I agree. Limit his minutes, keep him healthy, play him at spots where he is likely to contribute the most and try and trade him at the slightest chance to do so.

I'd play him just enough to keep him in shape and then exploit him come post season time lol

Can anyone guess what this is? It's a 100 million dollar item sold at Sotherbys'. This is how I would use him.

He could keep my papers from flying away.

Isola from the daily news is reporting Amare had another knee sugery in July.

According to a Knicks source, Stoudemire had an unreported surgical procedure in July to repair one of his ailing knees. The Knicks open camp on Tuesday and have yet to announce that Stoudemire has had a third knee operation in 12 months. The surgery was described as "clean up" and isn't considered major.

Not for what you should get out of a hundred million dollar player- but Amare looks good, and he may be the only player on the team that Woodson uses correctly.

Amare needs to play opposite of chandler and most of his minutes during Carmelo's breaks as well. He really needs to be out there by himself as far as bigs.

I even see atleast an effort to defend and rebound. He is a slow thinker or reactor but it looks like he understands his role, which sadly is a scorer against bench units and wanting to be an effort guy

I expect absolutely nothing from amare- he looks to me like he could contribute- that's all I meant by looking "good"
