View Full Version : Kobe best dunk blocker non-big ever?

Let me start by saying Lebron is clearly the best chasedown blocker that i've ever seen.

Is Kobe the best at blocking dunks/facial/at the rim attempts? It's insane how many he has blocked that I can think of at the rim. I can't think of any other non big blocking as many dunk/at the rim/facial attempts as he has. Out of ALL of these block attempts he's 100% I think. He may have some times he fouled, but he never got facial'd and he attempts more of these sort of blocks than any other non-big.

Off the top of my head:

Will Barton
Deron Williams
Ray Allen
Shawn Marion
Andrei Kirilenko
Yao Ming
Brandon Wright
Tony Allen
Anthony Randolph
Marcus Camby
Tim Duncan
Michael Redd

I think Wade is the most consistent, but not really the 'best'. Kobe's blocks come at the rim..Wade for the most part gets blocks from behind, or from playing the lullaby defense and tricking the offensive player on how close he is to him. I've actually never really seen Wade with an at the rim block on someone trying to flush it. Brb youtube time lol.

Wade. Pretty easily too. Hes blocked bigs on dunks that were for game winners and game tying shots. I remember he did it to Brook Lopez twice.

So he's had 3 memorable ones: Tyson, Brook, and Celtics one. The rest of his block highlights are like jumpers/chase down blocks...not facial dunk attempts.

How is 3-5 better than 10+?

Watch Wade's top 10 blocks and Kobe's top 10 blocks and tell me who has had more aesthetically pleasing blocks?

Yeah, def! I think if Bledsoe stays healthy/plays a long time, he'll end up with more than Kobe. He's a beast. He goes after everthing at the rim. Though...not really straight up facials blocks..but still close enough. He's more of a surprise blocker.

Its gotten to the point where its common place with him that I don't sit down and actively remember each one. I remember in his rookie year blocking a Cavs big man going up for a dunk.

Wade is the better shot blocker, possibly the best non-big blocker ever, but Kobe has had more straight up dunk challenge blocks, ie where the player is on a fast break or a drive and is trying to yam it in his face and they both collide and he blocks it straight up.

The thread is titled "Kobe best dunk blocker non-big ever?" and LeBron is mentioned the very first sentence in a way that implies Kobe is better at blocking dunks.

Wade might be better at getting the actual block than LeBron since hes always had a habit of letting guys get their shot off just so he can block it. LeBrons primary objective on the other hand is to contest the shot first, block second. It's one of the many reasons LeBron is a much better defender.

GTFO with that shit. Lebron is the one who sags off and creates a buffer between him and the other player, which often leads to an almost open shot. Case in point, Paul George in game 1 (tied the game in regulation) and TP's 3 in Game 6 of the Finals.

Tony Parker's step back. Lebron bites the crossover and is not able to recover in time, to block a 6' PG. I'm not even going into the RS defensive fails.

That was a bullshit call though. I was properly pissed off, when the ref blew the whistle on that call.

Lebron is a great help defender but I'd take Wade over him, when it comes to man-to-man defense. Also, Wade does a great job on SF's. Wade is also a great help defender but he gambles a lot, which does cost the team sometimes. That where Lebron is better than him.

Did you even watch the game? Like the guy above me said, Wade almost cost them the game because he tried to contest that shot.
Read above.

And a step-back three pointer?
That's one of the lowest efficiency shots.
TP crossed him up pretty good and created enough space to launch a pretty decent shot.

Why is it so hard to accept that Wade is better than Lebron at contesting shots? Wade is a better at blocking shots than Lebron and it's not ever close. Wade has more blocks than Lebron, even though he played 100 fewer games than Lebron. Lebron is NOT perfect at everything, you know?

Are you visually retarded?
Even if you want to say he might have tried to make it a dunk late, it would be the softest dunk in history.

If we are talking blocking dunks, it's Wade. Made even more remarkable by the fact he is about 6'3 at best.

Uhh no, Wade is closer to 6'5 in terms of playing height, than he is 6'3. He should actually be listed as 6'5.

Once again, Wade >>>>>>>>>>>> Lebron at blocking shots.

I would say wade is better at blocking people on jumpshots than Lebron but Lebron is better and more intimidating at blocking air born attempts at the rim. let me explain...

Wade IMO gets more of these type of blocks because his height throws people off into wanting to challenge him and not realizing Wade has like a 7 foot wing span.

whereas people routinely look back when Lebron is trailing/tracking them down in fear of getting blocked
