Well, I don't see any threads for this season so I'll start one. Damn, that was a crazy episode. What do you think about that school shooting at the end?
Thoughts and Opinions....... Let's go

Sutter is ruining the show with all the violence and smut

I didn't even know it premiered. I guess I'm too focused on Breaking Bad. Just set the DVR to record the reair on Thursday @ 1am. Just knowing that beyotch Tara is locked away is enough satisfaction for me to not even watch this show again.

There's too much TV going on. I recorded it, but didn't watch last night. I just finished catching up on my Sunday night stuff last night. I did Breaking Bad and Dexter on Monday. Last night I did Ray Donovan and The Newsroom, both of which I could stand to have just end already. So now I'm a day behind on Sons. Frankly I didn't want to watch it live anyway, because it was an hour and a half, and I'm guessing about 50 minutes of that was commercial.

:lol Yeah there were a lot of commercials. I recorded it too just to skip them. Seems like I was pushing the forward button every 5 minutes to skip commercials. Speaking of Breaking Bad, I've yet to get into it. There are times I wanna get on Netflix and watch it but always do something else. On a scale of 1-10, how great is it in your opinion.

That's the way I watched it. It's pretty ****ing awesome. I don't think it's quite on the level of The Sopranos, or The Wire, or in my opinion Mad Men (which is a delicate show that doesn't appeal to everyone, but is exquisite at what it does, and they can still **** that up) or even Game of Thrones (which is one I would get the most blowback on, and there's plenty of time for it to be ****ed up too, and I did read all the books, for whatever that's worth). But my take is that it just isn't nearly on the scope or scale of those other shows. And then on top of that, the early seasons to me some of the characters feel a little flat (mostly Hank and Marie), although to be fair, they probably feel that way in part because there just aren't that many characters.
But this is really a plot driven show, that just happens to have a rediculously well written and acted character at the center of it, so it sometimes feels like a character study. The plot is incredibly taughtly written and directed. Even in some of the moments that would normally have you shaking your head because of their sillyness in other shows, this is paced so perfectly, I find that I just let everything slide for the sake of the eventual wow moment.
I also find that I'm growing more fond of it in recollection. And considering how fast I watched the whole series on Netflix, it's almost as if it's just now settling into my brain.
Overall I'd give it a 9 something out of 10. Certainly among the 10 best shows ever. Probably among the 5 best in most books, mine included. I couldn't recommend enough sitting down and Netflixing the hell out of it.

9. And better on Netflix because in binge watching all the little connections jump out. The first 3 or 4 episodes are IMO literally the worst (grading on a curve) of the entire series in a row. It just jumps up from there.

yeah it is, he's the son of one of Nero's guys, and probably it was with one of the guns supplied by the SOA

at this point, they should really consider changing the name of the show to, "holy shit?!?!? what the fvck just happened!!??"
i totally forgot they added donald logue last season. hes gonna be a sweet antagonist this season.
Everybody is talking about the school shooting, but the real story is they added f*cking ROBOCOP!

Thank you for the great insight! I'll definitely start watching the show whenever I can get some free time.

And now they added T1000! I want a T1000 vs Robocop scene (or at least an interaction). I don't expect one though considering there is little reason for them to meet so far (but maybe Sutter will have them do it if he is a fanboy of those as well).
Anyway, last night's episode was the best of the season for a while. Plenty of deaths of characters we have actually gotten to know, rather than just killing random thugs. Also, Clay is slowly becoming more likeable again. He didn't rat (but I thought that may be more based on code), but now he supplied Otto a shank that led to a rewarding scene.

Entertaining but way too much going on now. It seems they are facing a dozen different antagonists at the same time which isn't giving them a chance to advace important story lines and not allowing for characters that have big a big part of the entire series. Where was Bobby and the possible Nomad charter to be found in that episode. How about Tara's storyline. Where have the Mayans been all season? Was there really a need for the white supremcist angle in this, I do get the connection to what Clay did in prison but was it really necesary to throw one more thing in there right now.
Can't believe this hasn't been discussed, but Clay is finally dead
Simultaneously satisfying and disappointing. I feel like he should have been killed when he was trying to get back at Jax/the club or something, rather than when he was easing a transition for them. Also, they should have saved his death for some climatic season finale.

Holy shit! pretty crazy episode. I knew Galen was dead as soon as he reached out to shake Jax's hands. I think they got rid of Clay because they didn't know what to do with him. He was just hanging around in jail not really part of the main story.

Yeah, he kind of became the new Otto. Still, they could have done the break out, had him become the gun runner, but have him still have a vendetta with Jax. There is only one more season, so I think the final season should have come down to them being in rival clubs with a game of cat and mouse. They could have ended the series with Jax sacrificing himself to take out Clay for the benefit of his family and the club getting out of illegal guns. That still may happen, but not against Clay who was kind of the main villain of the series. I also don't like that Clay went out when he was actually starting to redeem himself rather than being out for vengeance.
I like how things have unfolded didn't see Clay's death coming, like Myth above I thought he'd evolve in to the new "Otto" in prison. I had some mental picture of Clay sitting in a cell with an eye patch as the scene fades to black as the season ended

I thought he had already become the new Otto. He received some torture while he was able to do stuff from the inside. I didn't think that would continue though.

All we got now to work out is Tara and the guns.

Interesting that you saw him as the new Otto. I never really saw him as that I know Clay was always on borrowed time, considering the only reason he was alive was because of Augustus Marks. I just don't see how they could have kept him in the story without being more involved in the club. You think they'd be a bigger build up but I guess they were going for the surprise factor like Opie's death which was more of a WTF. Clay had his coming for the longest time. I think the fact that the guy who plays Toric had to bail on the part screwed up everything the writers had been planning.

The timing of it even in the episode was weird. They did it and I thought it was over and looked up and there was a half hour left.
I get the idea that his story had stalled, but it's a shame the character died effectively as a means of resolving yet another elaborate and wtf-ish plot mechanism. I like the show, but man does it sometimes feel like all they do is paint into corners then pull a magic trick to write out of it. Clay deserved more of an emotional send off. Even the slow way they explained everyone knowing it was coming, and it being used as a "play", sacking all the heinous emotion out that shoulda been there for Piney and Opie and everything else.
Honestly all the plotting and scheming and deal making has gotten too much.
I do think with Clay out of the picture they've set up the final season to really dive into Gamma vs. Jax and really dig into her sins.

I was fine with that. He was the worst character the show has ever had IMO. He was SOA's Governor.
Holy f*cking shit. Now that is how you end a season.

That was what, like a 20 hour season in "13" episodes? That's an entire West Wing season. Jesus Christ, there's nobody in the writer's room that has the authority to say HEY ENOUGH MONTAGES TO SHITTY COVERS?
But hey, we killed a main character, so you gotta come back! Promise to give you Jax with his shirt off every other episode you housewives out there! This is the sloppiest shit ever. Keep slapping shit together that is massively incongruent with everything in the season prior in the last two episodes Sutter.
This show is not any good anymore and hasn't been for a longwhile. I gotta get an old lady so I don't have so much free time. A hobby, take up woodworking or something. Garbage like this gets great ratings while no one knows what Masters of Sex even is.

Sutter is a ****ing idiot and he does it on purpose cause he's a prick in real life. Killing Tara means what?? Means that Jax is now going to kill his Mom? So while he rots in jail or is possibly killed himself, his poor kids no longer have a mother, a father, a grandmother, and then will be stuck with that junkie bitch as their foster mom. Great story.

Not all stories have happy endings, Jax has done a lot of dirt himself, and karma was coming. Even Nero hinted at it... Tara dying was horrible, even though she asked for it I felt bad, it was shocking, but I can't say I was surprised. I had a feeling that she would go out at the hands of Gemma. Couldn't see Jax being in jail for the for the final season.

Maybe he'll disown his mother, but choose to not kill her with that being the true sign that he is leaving the life of violence. Though I hope he kills her. She now killed his wife and was partially responsible for the death of his father.

I was speechless after that brutal murder of Tara. Once we saw Unser's truck outside Jax's house, it was pretty much a guarantee someone was going to die. Sutter is a great writer in my opinion. Read a great quote earlier. "In 5 minutes, Sutter made us love and feel sorry for a character we'd come to hate all season long". Can't wait till the series finale next year.
This sets up the big Jax Gemma showdown... Gemma killed Jax's dad or had a hand in it as did Unser.... that needs to be settled and I don't have high hopes for Gemma, she's swinging in the wind now
Tara kind of had to go.. otherwise it would be more of the same next season or?

Its a tragedy loosely based on Shakespearean literature
There will be no happily ever after.

Lol at all you guys hating on this. The point to killing Tara was that it's karma for everything that Jax had done. All the death he's dealt out had come back to bite him the ass. Poor Roosevelt, everyone was shocked about Tara dying and no one even remembers he got popped :oldlol:
I wonder if Roosevelt is dead or ?
I saw the blood but I think he had a vest on... He might be down but not out or he's looking for a new role

I just caught up last night. Man does this show need to be watched on DVR to skip the commercials. It's crazy how much advertising they sell during it.
I stand by my gripe that the scheming and plotting has wound itself so far down a rabbit hole that it's almost too hard to keep track of, and it means we've lost so much time with the characters, and developing the characters, in order to deliver exposition clarifying what's happening.
I mean, when Jax and the Mayan leader went on their little stroll, that conversation could have taken place with them looking directly at camera, as a wrap up to the audience about what's happened clubwise (without even accounting for the Tara end of the show). It really could've ended with Jax looking at camera and saying "Got it? ... good, let's finish the show."
And I do think a big chunk of that is that Jax just isn't a great character. I'm not sure who's to blame. He seems to be responsible for most of the exposition, including stretches of voice over, that's more story than character building. The Swaggy swagness he swags around with I don't think helps, and I'm certain is a choice of the actor. All the lip smacking, cold eyes stuff. His hyper calm cool collective answers for everything. It's all just a bit much in my eyes. He's not nearly as interesting as any of the other characters, but occupies a ton of the shows time. But again, the show has made itself about the story more than the characters, so I can't blame him totally for being a bit flat.
There's also the Shakespearian element to this, which I've liked a lot since getting into it. The first couple seasons, the Hamlet angle was spot on. There's been more than a little King Lear. And Gemma has plenty of Lady McBeth in her. Last night, there was a definite Romeo and Juliet thing going on. The star crossed lover thing didn't start with R+J, nor is it the last thing to do it, and it may or may not be the definitive example. But this got closer than that. The sense that Jax would "die" (via going to prison) for Tara and then due to a lack of communication, it ends tragically with the other lover dieing. In R+J it's the secret death poison and not knowing that J isn't really dead, while here it's Gemma's not knowing. It's not a perfect analogy, but I'm convinced there's a good deal of intentional symmetry.
I look forward to next season. They've obviously set up a nice Gemma vs. Jax conclusion that should allow them to take all the skeletons out of the closet that have been more than hinted at. We'll have people taking sides. Unser. Juice seems like a loose canon. Nero pulling in the rest of the story. Chibbs and Bobby serving as Jax's backbone, with Tig also probably up in the air. My guess is the final image will be the club raising the kids, because they truely are like family, whoever's left of them, because I doubt Jax or Gemma will be there when everything settles.
The show as whole has had some real down times. I could've done with a few less rocked out action shootouts. A few less twists in the scheming. A few fewer dead bodies strewn all over a small town, or leaving a trail across Ireland without any recourse. A little less Jax strutting around. But that was all fine in the moment.
And I would've liked a little more club parties where we got more depth to the characters (I love Bobby as Santa, and Bobby singing as Elvis, and everyone having a good time together, it gives some reason as to why these guys would want to be in a club together). A little more background on Unser, Gemma, Clay, and old man Teller (which I think is coming). A little more fleshed out Jax, what he and Tara were like as kids. How'd the relationship with Jax and the Junkie develop.
And it spiked with emotional moments at all the right times. Opie's finishing the Firearm chick (spectacular season finale). Jax killing the Firearm guy. Opie's wife dieing. Opie dieing. Piney dieing. Tig's daughter. Chib's family. Homeland has some similar storyline spiraling issues in my mind, but this show never went on a stretch as long as Homeland's last two seasons, without affecting me emotionally and pulling me back in. Even if it was often times manipulative gibberish. And I feel like they're finishing right in time, not too drawn out, maybe a little, but I still feel like we're getting the conclusion of a story that started when the show began, even if there were a few meanderings along the way.
And I enjoy shitty cover versions of songs, and montages, so I'm good with those last five minutes every week.
