While Beasley will receive the 5-year veteran minimum of $1,027,424, Heat's actual salary-cap hit will be only $788,872, under the cap.

Is this for real? Damn, I actually said they would even though I didn't believe it.

First of all, he won't act out in a team with Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Allen and those guys.

Third, really.. Miami has been looking for a an athletic player off the bench and they end up getting Beasley? Damn..

And last, don't you guys ever doubt Woj again, he called it a few days ago and the Miami journalists started pissing on him.

But they both will smoke out on the ganja though. Beasley was a bad influence on him but that's okay now that Lebron/Wade/Bosh have control of the locker room and contain the cancer.

My question is, how well will he replace Mike Miller? He has offense but he may also be a chucker. Does his defense match up even though he is athletic enough? They definitely could use a scorer to replace Miller and when Wade goes inconsistent. But the reason they don't use Rashard Lewis is because of his bad defense and lack of efficiency.

bizil
09-11-2013, 05:46 PM
Beasley STILL has major upside as a scoring force in the L. On Miami he can come off the bench and provide that scoring spark. He can play SF and PF and guys like Bron and Wade are gonna make him better. When they go with Bosh at C and Beasley at PF, they can stretch that floor in a major ass way! If it doesn't work oh well, Miami is still the favorite to win it all anyway. But if Beasley can't thrive with Bron, Wade, and Bosh, then he's the hopeless case many think he is anyway. Hopeless in terms of not living up to his potential. This dude talent wise should be in the top 6-7 SF's in the L.

LOL this guy was miami's hope in 2008-2009 and now he is just another scrub on the team.

This speaks for itself for how stacked miami heat is right now.

But this is what comes with a championship team, this is a no risk sign, just like birdman and oden. If they play well, they will help the team in some way, but if they play bad, they won't hurt either, because they will not be playing at all.

There's no doubt he's a scoring machine. But how much can he contribute with less playing time and less shots than he would as first/second/third option on a crappy team?

Did he choose to get bought out leaving 2 mil on the table so he wouldn't get waived and be claimed by random teams? Buyout means he gets to choose the team he wants to go to like a free agent?

I'm happy for the heat. Great scorer for the bench should they need it.

Well he's probably a good deal more talented that your average 9th/10th guy.

He does have attitude issues, though being on a championship team tends to get most guys to focus.

There's no doubt Miami is top to bottom the most talented team in the NBA by a fair margin too IMO.

People expected him to sign for at least the mini mid level exceptions. Teams like the lakers don't have any of those. Turns out if you're a championship team that he wants to go to...you don't have to pay him much at all. It's low risk and high reward since all I hear is it's a non-guaranteed contract. "It is a non-guaranteed deal, but if Beasley makes the team, he will make $1.027 million." Most teams weren't really even interested because of all the off court drama. Works for the heat because it's a 1 and out deal, one more mistake and you're cut.

Oklahoma City Blunder. This guy will make a difference. Just like Birdman. Just like Oden will.

Congrats to the Heat on their 2014 NBA championship. You made the right choice, Bron. Good on you.

Pat Riley showing time and time again he will do whatever is necessary to win a ship. All you can do is swallow your pride and show your respect.

I guess I'll have to learn to be content with the Thunder having regular season success and watching two of the most exciting players in the league for many years to come. A lot of fans aren't as lucky.

Once again, Congrats to the Heat on the 3 peat. :applause:

I guess that's the way the NBA is going. Have a couple of the best players in the game playing on 1 team, then have decent players from other teams throw themselves at you for minimum cost to win championships.

It's not against the rules or anything, but surely there must be a way to stop players from playing for peanuts just so that they can bandwagon a good team...Maybe not.

Most teams weren't willing to sign him for 3-4 mil. If he's going to only make 1-2 mil at least he can choose the team he wants to go to. Let's not forget the Suns are still paying him with the buyout. When he went to the Sun, he probably much said his troubled weed smoking days were over, guess not so he relapsed. This really will be his last chance in the NBA. How many more teams will believe his lies if he keeps relapsing and going back on his words?

I think people are overreacting with Beas and Oden. I seriously doubt Oden's ability o actually play, let alone contribute. Beasley isn't going to get minutes because he's a chucker and poor defender, I can't see him being in the p/o rotation tbh.

Both guys could still break-out as superstars, but aren't likely to. Miami can take these risks though.

Beasley playing for peanuts on the Heat? There's a good chance he won't even be on the team roster once the season starts.

Don't act like you wouldn't be upset had the Bulls signed Beasley for free with all his off the court issues. He'd single-handedly flip the best defensive team in the league to the all-slacker team.

I doubt Beasley will get a lot of minutes. Maybe 8-12 minutes per game if he does make the team.

Anyway, I'm happy with the signing. People might say hes a locker room risk, etc, but I just like watching the guy play, and he was and still is one of my favorite players in the league. Yeah, hes stupid, but talented.

Everyone mad the Heat got him, but no one else wanted him... lol

a few days ago, no one wanted him. and now the Heat are stacked? :lol just like when everyone was saying any team that signs Oden is stupid, and when the Heat signed him, again they are assured of a 3-peat? so players that are busts turn into star material when signed by the Heat? i guess it's the Lebron effect.

also, what are the odds all these crack heads are on one team?

Chalmers, Birdman, Beasley, and Rashard? it's like Riley's just asking for a crack party happening in the locker room.

Great pick up for Miami. I wanted him in New Orleans but he would just corrupt our young players' minds. Wade alone will keep him in check.

As someone who doesn't really want the Heat to win any more, I have to admit this is a great pick up. Jesus. No one is denying this dude's talent. He's on a team that will really push the pace, he can grab boards. I don't think he'll get many plays run for him, but just being a guy who can get out on the break and check a PF, hit 3s...

Oden was an eh signing because he may never play, but Beas is still a talent. He can be like Antoine Walker was for the 06 Heat... if he's scrubbing they just sit his ass back down.

Edit: BTW

1) Beasley can turn it around. He is only 24 years old, HE IS YOUNGER THAN NORRIS COLE.

2) He's basically the 13th, or 14th spot on the roster. Deep bench player that would have normally been given to a guy like Varnado, who will never play. Beasley actually has a chance to play, and a lot more talent.

3) Beasley will be around role models like Ray Allen, LeBron, SHANE BATTIER, etc... this team can teach him how to behave in the NBA, how to take the game seriously, how to improve. He will learn a lot if Beasley is serious about this chance the Heat have given him.

4) Beasley will be given burn in the reg season to rest our aging vets. He won't sniff the court in the playoffs unless he improves. He knows this.

This is a GREAT move. Excellent move. Replace a scrub that would never play, the 14th man on the roster, with Beasley. Still young with a long career ahead of him.

This is only going to be a one year thing. Suns are paying him this year so I guess he decided he wanted to go back to Miami if he's going to get the minimum anyway.

Also this guy is Mike Millers replacement. Miami first real acquisition. Oden is still a huge question mark and can't be counted on.

Also, Beasley just came of a 10 ppg season, what is that all about?

I wish my team had the balls to sign some "risky" players. Bulls are too content and complacent, and that's why they're not winning a title any time soon.

On the other hand, Heat go balls-to-the-wall for the guys they want, knowing they will make it work... and it's done nothing except 3 straight Finals appearances and two straight titles.

I guess playing it safe is the way to go, huh Chicago?

... In case you can't tell, I'm butthurt that Chicago didn't even TRY to get Beasley or Oden. Seriously? The nucleus you have already, with strong culture and leadership, and you're gonna worry about how one player would fit (assuming that's why they stayed away)? :wtf:

Edit: Even if Beasley and Oden don't play at all and/or get waived/cut, they were great signings. There is minimal risk, but the potential payoff is quite large.

Unless there was collusion (possible) I would argue that the risk taking began with the summer of Lebron and Bosh signings. To allow all your players to leave, and just have hope that you can sign NBA talent that will fill out the roster without handicapping it (big money to good, not great, players, etc) is quite risky. Again, this is assuming there was no collusion.

Then old man Ray Allen. Birdman. Oden. Beasley.

I'm on record on this site saying nobody should sign him.

But after bringing 3 titles with his personnel decisions, and producing teams that have made deep playoff runs, you have to trust Pat Riley as a Heat fan.

He had improved significantly at the basics of winning bball in his finals season with Miami.

And Beasley is 10 years younger so why is this a bad pick up?

hawkfan
09-12-2013, 10:19 PM
This is a steal of pickup considering what is out there and the upside of Beasley's talent, if he gets his act together.

Big if, but who else is out there that can be a guy who can get them 15-8 off the bench.

He could be this year's Andre Blatche - get out of a really bad situation and go to a better environment.

Beasley, if he focuses in on his game and refines his skills, will be able to play to his potential and be a 6th man type of player of Miami. All depends on his level of maturity. This isn't the Timberwolves or the Suns. This is a back to back championship team, with the best player on the world and some serious goals. He'll be ready.

Still feel like Oden is the main piece. Hoping he's healthy and ready to go.
