This movie is making the rounds in film festivals and apparently this flick is amazing. It's directed by Steve McQueen and stars Chiwetal Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, and Brad Pitt. It's being called the Schindler's List of slavery. Can't wait to check it out

I haven't seen Hunger or Shame but McQueen has a great track record and the cast looks awesome. Fassbender, Cumberbatch, Pitt, Giamatti, Ejiofor, etc. I will definitely keep an eye out for it.

Just came back from seeing it. There were some scenes where you could hear a pin drop in the theatre.

Also, there seems to be pattern: all major hyped up hollywood summer blockbusters are visually entertaining but have almost do depth to them, all movies that come from independant movie festivals like Sundance and Toronto are visually entertaining and powerful

Most of those films are unwatchable, needless, pretentious drivel.

Uh, it's not supposed to be a comedy.

I think he was complimenting the movie, saying it is so powerful that people were dead silent. If you were being sarcastic, it was lost in translation.

Saw the movie today, and it was very powerful and hard to watch at times. 9.5/10

I've been a to movies where the ending had an audience in tears, but this had them crying during the movie. Some people even left looking like they couldn't take it. Very power film this is.

Dutch? The director Steve McQueen is from London.

I liked Shame, but I didn't think it was a great movie. It was ambitious and I liked the way some things were directed, but it was atmospheric and a bit short on drama or convention drama. Michael Fassbender was great in it and it had a lot of long shots/scenes that allowed him to stretch as actor. It was more of a character study than a robust story.

After hearing great reviews for Once a Slave, I could see him really doing well with this material that is obviously loaded with drama.

beautifully shot. the cinematography was impressive.

mcqueen did an excellent job, too. his style and technique fit this story.

he let the actors emotions and body language do the talking.

this is where all the acting talent shone so brightly.

despite it's length, this movie doesn't drown in dialogue. the story was told through their expressions and reactions.
