First of all...amazing comeback :applause:

Besides the fact that it's a stupid video game...2k uses different formulas for calculating overall ratings. So comparing a SG to a SF isn't possible. Just a very, very, very, very, very, very, very stupid thread. Also, the way OVR gets calculated is arbitrarily defined and doesn't tell you anything about individual skills. Dirk was the most dominant PF in the last three 2k games, even though guys like Zach Randolph had a higher overall rating. Dirk was rated around 80, but you could drop 40 a game easily. So yeah, the picture pretty much captures what is needed to think the original post makes any sense...a lack of brain.

Yes. Future generations will say:
5 time NBA champion
2 time finals MVP
Regular season MVP
15 time all-star
A rating of 93 in nba 2k14(!)

I was skeptical before, but I think we can now truly say that Kobe is the greatest ever.

Comes as no surprise here. Over the hill Kobe was dominating the league last year and won NBA 1ST team.

Nothing changes because the game makers thought he is just as good just like knowledgeable fans.

I'd be surprised if Durant's defensive ratings aren't higher than Kobe's based on last season. Durant's defense was better than Kobe's even when Kobe was trying on defense, which was almost never.

Being where ever you lived, did you watch every Laker game like me? I'm not saying his Defense was Tony Allen like, but homie was far from atrocious...I watched games with him stealing the ball alot, he's had games where he had multiple shot blocking marathons. He had more 4blk games than any perimeter player.

Miss with that "delusional" shit, just because you have a personal hate for him. :oldlol:

I had League Pass so I probably watched around 30 Laker games. Kobe's defense was very bad last year. Maybe atrocious is too strong of a word for you, but he was terrible on that end of the floor for the most part. He did have some games or stretches in games where he would actually focus and turn up the intensity on that end and play good defense, but those times were far and few between last year.

And I have no idea where you're getting your "he had more 4blk games than any perimeter player" information from. Kobe had exactly ONE game of 4 blocks and that was also the only game last year he had 3+ blocks. And he had just three other games with 2 blocks. For comparison's sake, Durant had five 4-block games, nine 3-block games, and 18 2-block games...and he's primarily a perimeter player, no?

I don't have a personal hate for Kobe. I have a personal "hate" for his delusional, arrogant fans like you...and I'm starting to come to the realization you may be the worst which is really saying something given how bad posters like Griff, 9erempire, YMF, and Alpha Wolf are when it comes to Kobe.

Relying on video game ratings now?

Video game ratings are based on hype. Kobe is arguably the worst defender in the NBA now and his offense is not some super efficient machine like Durant or complete all around yet efficient game like Lebron. Just look at how highly rated Monta Ellis is in the game to show you how hype is the biggest role in it.

Good point. This should end the "Kobe vs. Duncan" debate. Kobe's got the higher 2K rating in his 18th season than Duncan does in his 17th. Thus, Kobe > Duncan. No one should ever rank Duncan higher than Kobe again.

So let it be written. So let it be done.

87 as a big is just as good as a perimeter play in his low 90's in 2k. Basketball depending on position requires different skill sets and facets FYI.

Meh. I'm going to engage OP's dumb ass for giggles.

Kobe wasn't a starter until his 3rd season, and only played 50 games given it was a lock out shortened season. The weakest year of NBA ball I've ever witnessed I might add. When an 8th seed gets to the Finals, there are problems.

Anyway ...

So that is really only 14 real 82 game seasons as a starter. He was only his franchises burdened alpha player until the 2005 season, his 9th year in the league. The difference in context of minutes, and franchise load between MJ and Kobe is apples and oranges.

Hell, even for LeBron, he shouldered a much larger load than Kobe right out the gates of getting his H.S. diploma.

KB just turned 35. He's rated a 93 by 2k sports analysts predicting how good he will be this up coming season. It's just a guess. Odds are he won't be that good. His rating is more based off his play the season before.

By comparison, if 2k were to rate MJ @ 34 years old in the '97 season, I'd have him rated at a 97. If it were MJ @ 35 years old in the '98 season, I'd have him rated at like a 96.

If he were headed into his 14th season in '99, based off his MVP caliber season the year before. Turning 36 years old, I'd guess he would be rated a 95.

So once again, Kobe is amazing, but still falls short of Jordan's looming shadow and legacy. It is what it is Kobe stans. Deal with it. Let's see what Kobe's rated when he's 39 and 40 years old by video game producers.

except

kobes played 45390 regular season minutes and 8641 playoff minutes

mike played 41011 regular season minutes and 7474 playoff minutes

so even with 5000+ more minutes on his legs he managed to have a much higher rating than jordan and make 1st team all nba

jordan missed out on both the 2002 and 2003 all nba teams. he couldnt even beat out jamaal mashburn for 3rd team

and jordan was a g/f which means he had 4 chances to make each team

12 chances total each time and failed miserably with far less mileage on his knees

So if MJ was rated like a 97% @ 34 years old in '97. In '96 he'd be like a 98% rating @ 33 years old. From '90 - '93 he'd easily be a 100% rating. Basically a perfect player. Peak Kobe and Peak Wade combined into one guy. Frightening.

I think it's fine though Kobe being rated this high. It's mainly based on last season and Kobe was balling . Seeing that he probably going to lose a step from this injury, he'll be rerated more along the lines on 90 or 89. Still says a lot.

As a long time gamer, 93 or not, Kobe fans are lucky. Us mj fans didn't get to play with mj growing up, 2k is the first game to have mj. I remember one of the nba lives back on genesis had a pre made player who was number 23 and was 99 across the board if you created a player and named him Michael Jordan. This was somewhere in the mid 90's I believe. Like 96 or even 97.

98 mj would be like 95 or 96.

97 mj would be 97.

Kobe's almost the same player basically on gaming. Mj better interior game and defense. Kobe better distance shooter.

93 is respectable. Kobe was more than respectable last season.
