I think the best case scenario for Kobe this year is to be equal to Wizards Jordan.

Why do you agree? I'd love to see a scientific explanation.

Kobe and Jordan at age 34:

Jordan: 28.7ppg (23.1fga) 5.8reb 3.5ast 1.7stl .5blk TS% 53.3

Kobe: 27.3ppg (20.4fga) 5.6reb 6ast 1.3stl .3blk TS% 57.

Basically identical with Kobe shooting more efficiently and being a better playmaker. While Jordan scores 1.4 more points on nearly 3 more shots and better defender slightly.

Kobe on par with end of 3peat MJ (not prime MJ, prime MJ shits on Kobe)

And Op tellin me that Kobe's going to go 38yr old Jordan and drop 23-5-5 on 41% fg TS% 46? Just one year later?

Only way I'll buy that is if Kobe's injured the whole year...

Only way I'll buy that is if Kobe's injured the whole year...Well he is going to come back from a nasty injury so maybe he's not completely wrong. It is safe to say though there is a high chance he's not going back to his form from last year unless he had this crazy ass training regime a la DragonBall Z (100x gravity chamber...etc...)

Kobe does have nearly 11,000 more (regular season + playoffs) NBA minutes on his legs plus is returning from an injury.

Jordan's minutes at the end of 1997/98 = 35887 + 7474 = 43361
Kobe's minutes at the end of 2012/13 = 45390 + 8641 = 54031

Kobe also probably won't be gunning for MVP or even the scoring title this season so some of his numbers might drop.

It's really hard to say. Kobe's injury ended some careers, like Isiah Thomas (and judging by his GM tenure, it might've also caused severe brain damage) Some never really recovered from it, like Billups. Some recovered and were relatively unaffected by it, like Dominique.
Kobe has a lot of milleage. Yet he's taken care of himself like very few have.
Another factor is that Kobe used the newest and the most effective technology for the treatment, something that wasn't really used before and it's considered to be the best and the most up to date treatment for such an injury.

Lot of elements come into play.

I personally think Kobe will be a lot like the Wizards MJ the first few months but about januray or february, I think he"ll be back to averaging 25 ppg.
Although, anything is possible. Lot of factors are into play and perhaps no athlete thus far treated the achillss with the same treatment that Kobe has.
We"ll see.

Kobe in 2011-2012 was similar in effectiveness to Wizards Jordan anyway.

Jordan's first retirement doesn't do favor to him as his almost two years out of competitive basket together with playing different sport (baseball) lead to MJ bulking more than 10 pounds - especcially in his upper body, lost some of his quickness and hoops. He put a lot of effort in the summer of 1995 in order just to regain his basketball fitnes.
Also you should count MJs NCAA minutes. And not to mention MJ's second season injury which kept him out for most of the season.

Kobe like Mj at40 still has great skills but he lacks big time in the leadership department...

whats funny is this is kobes 18th possible full season out of 20 ( missing 14, 15 )

wizards jordan was playing in his 12th full season out of a possible 19 ( missing 86, 93, 94, 95, 99, 00, 01 )

so the mileage isnt even comparable

Kobe and Jordan at age 34:

Jordan: 28.7ppg (23.1fga) 5.8reb 3.5ast 1.7stl .5blk TS% 53.3

Kobe: 27.3ppg (20.4fga) 5.6reb 6ast 1.3stl .3blk TS% 57.

That's actually 35 year old Jordan in 98's numbers. And yes Kobe is basically equal to ... slightly better, or slightly inferior to ... depending on your view point, to second three peat MJ.

Kobe played in a DAntoni system and was able to muster up some nice numbers but it didn't help the team win much.. Team was a big time dissapointment and only got to the PLAYOFFS with BIG TIME HELP FROM NBA REFS....

Advance metrics show MJ season was still better...
