I hear in THIS superhero movie, the superheros get together and try to stop some bad people from taking over the world or something. All with wild fight scenes and some sharp humor to boot.

Love the originality.

they cant be compared but yes overall TV can be better because they have more time to elaborately explain a plot and its characters. but for 1.5 hrs to 2.5hrs time frame. movies are still king.

superhero movies make money so they will always find a way to recycle these same old stories.

All of them from Robert Downey Jr, to Chris Hemsworth/thor, hawk-eye, the hulk, etc., have become" household" names. I'm bored and got time to kill while I take a dump so I'll play along.

Serenity by Joss Whedon for starters, just to keep it within the same realm.
The first Iron Man, Mission Impossible 3 was extremely fun, I'll take the original Blade over this as well, plus others.

So it isn't that I don't like hero/action movies like I'm sure some of you are perhaps assuming. This one was just bad from the beginning.

Like I mentioned, bad acting, bad dialogue, had a weird look to it that took me out of the film.

Some of the main actors sign two film contracts so that they get better job security and the production company pays less. Robert Downey Jr. is signed all the way up to Avengers 3.

It aint even that.

It doesn't even have to be all Dark Knight and shit. For all I care it can be simple as hell. The opening just really turned me off and I was really hyped for it cause I like Joss Whedon's 'Serenity', I really dug the cartoon series, and of course Iron Man numero uno is a classic.

It was just bad, and not in a good way bad.

They were taking too long to get to any action, they were doing tons of exposition but in a bad way, with bad acting and very cheesy lines.

[INDENT]What!? Joss Whedon Disses 'The Avengers'

It's one of the biggest commercial successes of all time and garnered extremely positive reviews, but "Marvel's The Avengers" has at least one rather notable critic: its own writer-director.

For millions of fans, "Marvel's The Avengers" was the movie of 2012 as it brought to life countless childhood fantasies of some of the world's greatest superheroes coming together to, well, fight the bad guys and save the day. But Joss Whedon, the writer and director of the film

I agree wholeheartedly. I have been watching a lot more tv shows than movies ever since Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. Most movies just aren't that entertaining for me anymore. I've become sick of the superhero and zombie genres. The experience is a lot better at the theater though, especially for this type of movie.

Thor is my second favorite. :(
I liked Thor way more than I liked the Avengers. I cant figure out why though. I cant put my finger on it but for some reason it was good to me. The Avengers wasnt good except when RD Jr. was on screen or a couple of interactions with Banner/Hulk.

The director nailed down one of the many issues of why the movie wasnt good for me.

Tony Stark is #1.

Captain America is just to bland in the Avengers.

Hulk is just kinda there, no real depth in his character.
Banner, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America were the coolest avengers in that order.

Hawkeye and Black Widow were lame as hell. Bow and arrow guy and gun chick. Who gives a phuck.

2015? Aint no one got time for that.

Who cares though. The Avengers is silly garbage anyways. Kiddie shit.

Nolan's trilogy was cool. Much more my taste. The first and third were still incredibly silly to me though.

Almost every superhero movie I've ever watched has been a joke. Just can't take these things seriously.

Movies like "Fresh" and "Little Miss Sunshine" are much better films and both have super heroes in them.

Characters don't have to have a suit or mask to be considered super heroes. That's absurd.

You want a super hero? Watch Jackie Brown. Not this silly crap.

There is a major power discrepancy with Hulk and Thor, then everyone else, which IMO made the Iron-man/Thor movie battle ridiculous even if entertaining. Thor honestly should phuck Iron-man up in a real fight, no way should they battle to a 'draw' but they had to nerf Thor in order to make it look like there's some equality between the two characters.

I will say that Scarlett Johansson was the worst thing to ever happen to Marvel. Whoever casted her as Black Widow... :facepalm

The first movie was OKAY for entertainment purposes. Every single related movie has sucked complete shit after though. Ironman 3... Thor 2... sigh. I'll consider watching Captain America 2 as that was my favourite after Ironman 1. I'll also pony up the money for this movie as well. But if both end in dissapointment then I'm officially done with Marvel.

they could just give him one of those eye camera things that the Centipede/HYDRA soldiers on Agents of SHIELD have.

Of course, I guess since only bad guys have been shown to have those it would a little lame to have Hawkeye be turned into an unwillingly baddie two Avengers flicks in a row.

The good guys are tired, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been destroyed, and there’s no one else for the planet to turn to when menace looms on the horizon. Everyone wants a break—and that’s exactly how they’re about to be broken. There’s no abdicating heroism.
GET EW ON YOUR TABLET: Subscribe today and get instant access!
“What you said about abdication is apt, but I think it’s also about recognizing limitations,” Robert Downey Jr. says. “The downside of self-sacrifice is that if you make it back, you’ve been out there on the spit and you’ve been turned a couple times and you feel a little burned and traumatized.”
For better or worse (trust us, it’s worse), his Tony Stark has devised a plan that won’t require him to put on the Iron Man suit anymore, and should allow Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk to get some much needed R&R as well. His solution is Ultron, self-aware, self-teaching, artificial intelligence designed to help assess threats, and direct Stark’s Iron Legion of drones to battle evildoers instead.
The only problem? Ultron (played by James Spader through performance-capture technology) lacks the human touch, and his superior intellect quickly determines that life on Earth would go a lot smoother if he just got rid of Public Enemy No. 1: Human beings. “Ultron sees the big picture and he goes, ‘Okay, we need radical change, which will be violent and appalling, in order to make everything better’; he’s not just going ‘Muhaha, soon I’ll rule!’” Whedon says, rubbing his hands together.
“He’s on a mission,” the filmmaker adds, and smiles thinly. “He wants to save us.”
The hard part about battling Ultron, as the cover image suggests, is that he’s not just a robot—he’s a program, capable of uploading himself and disappearing not into the clouds but the Cloud. And he has a bad habit of rebuilding himself into stronger and more fearsome physical forms.
The cover story runs through a pivotal early scene in the movie that I witnessed on set, and explains where some of the new characters (Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, The Vision) fall on the good-guy/bad-guy spectrum. It also reveals exactly how Marvel Studios is retooling the origin story for Ultron, who first appeared in the comic books in 1968.
Elsewhere in the Comic-Con issue, beloved poster artist Drew Struzan discusses some of his most memorable work on franchises like Star Wars and Indiana Jones; the cast and crew of The Terminator recall their work on the sci-fi classic in time for its 30th anniversary; the YouTube sensation known as Stampylonghead steps out of the video game Minecraft long enough to discuss his growing kids-entertainment empire; and we offer sneak peeks at a bunch of Comic-Con-bound projects in movies, TV, games, and comics (including exclusive images from The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Gotham).

Ulton controls all other robots, so there's probably some issue with that.. also, he does die... but he's able to upload himself into the "cloud" if you will, and then remake his body better and better each time.. Don't know if that's what they're going for in this movie but I imagine so.also, in the comics his body is also made out of adamantium (the same stuff wolverine's bones are coated with).

if they follow that in the movie then they would probably introduce Wakanda which is where the metal comes from hopefully give Black Panther a cameo.

DC is taking all the wrong lessons from Marvel. They're basically ramming half of their Justice League line-up into that Superman-Batman movie. I don't think Snyder has the Whedon-esque skills to juggle all these characters...and he hasn't even introduced any of them yet!

The bigger issue is Goyer writing the script, thought I hear Affleck's people are handling the it now.

Either way, Snyder better make it more like Watchmen and less like Man of Steel. I am keeping my expectations as low as possible.

Looks like Ultron was originally formed from the destroyed suits in IM3?

my guess: when Stark self destructed his suits, he introduced some sort of bug in the j.a.r.v.i.s AI that allowed it to become sentient and become Ultron. thus, the "no strings" line. the one in the above picture is his original form made from spare parts. he gradually upgrades over the course of the film to this, which is also the form his drones have.

Yeah i also have that feeling like I've seen this stuff before. It's the action and villains that make me think that way. I mean its always some kind of robot type villains. I get it in films like Iron Man (first one the others sucked) but not in The Avengers, Man of Steel, Thor and i dont know how many more. I swear that big action scene in The Avengers with that giant robo snake reminded me of Transformers. And again in Thor you had that Destroyer and that thing in MOS with tentacles i mean come on. And now the same shit With Ultron and his compadres. Im certain Snyder will do the same shit with Justice League.

OH NOOOOOOO!

See I always thought it's be cool if the whole series ended on a cliffhanger. Like: They beat the big bad but then some smarty pants is like "Wait there's a reading. What the hell is this!" And then you see Galactus on a computer screen or something devouring a near by world or something.

And then you get one **** in PG-13 movies so then someone who would know about Galactus should just be like: ".... oh ****."

And then credits and then no more Avengers movies ever.

He has not but I'm not even sure if he has tried since he is a DC character. Usually he gets paired up with Captain America in the rare Marvel/DC crossovers.

Other wielders

Individuals in the primary continuity

Beta Ray Bill
Captain America
Storm
Eric Masterson
Odin (Thor's father)
Bor (Thor's grandfather)
Buri (also known as Tiwaz, Thor's great-grandfather)
An unidentified female

Sentient constructs (non-sentient machines apparently cannot) in the primary continuity

Zarrko the Tomorrow Man's mining robot;
Air-Walker (animated by the soul of Nova Corps captain Gabriel Lan);
Awesome Android (by mimicking Thor's abilities and worthy nature).

The hammer has been lifted by Earth itself when animated by magical means.

Characters from outside the primary continuity

Conan the Barbarian
Dargo Ktor (Future Thor)
Loki
Magni
Rogue (after absorbing the entirety of Thor's life force and thus essentially becoming Thor)
Miguel O'Hara (Spider-Man 2099)
Woden
Alex Power
Jane Foster
Superman (who is amazed by the hammer, stating while holding it and Captain America's shield "Oh my lord, the power! Never felt so— Never would have guessed—")
Wonder Woman
Black Widow

Several imitations of Mjolnir have also existed. These include Stormbreaker and the mace Thunderstrike, created for Beta Ray Bill and Eric Masterson respectively. Loki has been responsible for the creation of several imitations – a version of Mjolnir, called Stormcaster, is presented to the mutant X-Men member Storm in an attempt to control her, which she later destroyed using Mjolnir. To spite Thor, another version is given to the mercenary Deadpool. Loki also allows Surtur to use the forge Mjolnir was created from to craft copies during Ragnarok. HYDRA created evil versions of Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye and Thor, the Thor imitator had a technological imitation of Mjolnir. Tony Stark and Reed Richards also create a technological imitation Mjolnir for use by Ragnarok, the clone of Thor, during the Civil War storyline. A tiny version was created from a sliver of Mjolnir for the use of Throg, leader of the Pet Avengers.

Anyone else feel like this is just a filler until Civil War and then Infinity Wars? Really hyped for those movies, but I'm not as excited for this. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the first Avengers and I'll be seeing this once it comes out in cinema, but it seems like it's just going to be very similar to the first movie. Won't be anywhere near as awesome as the Phase 3 films :pimp:

Well Ultron (in the comics) is a much better story than Infinity Gauntlet anyways. Although I'm not sure they can properly do the Ultron story justice in the course of 1 movie.

Honestly Ultron should have been in Iron Man 3 and Captain America: Winter Soldier as a force for good, and then it would be better set up.

They have a lot of footage of this movie now.

Between the three trailers, the extended trailer and the clip from the Marvel event.

Hopefully they don't go too trailer crazy. Although I'm glad to see this one.

This movie also has a lot to accomplish. At least half a dozen new characters to introduce. This has to be approaching 3 hours to pull it off.

i hope those brothers that directed the best marvel movie so far, don't **** it up with avengers 3 and make him a great villain instead of these whack jobs.
It's always the same movie, a guy attacks, he has an army, they lose at first, then win in the end and the guy either dies or escapes. It's just not interesting anymore.

Ha! I actually loved it. It is not as good as the first Avengers movie, but it would be pretty much impossible to top that wonder. Ultron was a great villain, though I agree, less of him trying to attempt humor would have made him much more sinister. They did try to explain where that part of him came from. The villainous plan was interesting. There were a few surprises. I give it a low 8/10 as it is a good bridge to Civil War and the Infinity Stones with Thanos.

Just came back from watching this.

8/10

As someone who only became a Marvel fan recently, and Avengers a movie I had already seen and paid little attention to before that, I think this movie is just as good than the first one. That may be because like I said, the first MCU movie I saw was Avengers, so it wasn't as special to me than for others.

As guessed, it's much darker and story-driven than the last one. While with Avengers 1 it was cool explosions, aliens and pure fun for it's first team-up ever, this was more detailed and serious than the first. With that, I say that there's probably more jokes and laughter in this than any other MCU film yet. Vision has one of my favourite and funniest scenes in the film, and the crowd at the cinema seemed to agree.

I think the most memorable part of this was the new characters. Vision, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver all kill it and imo, take the forefront for the original Avengers. Before this, I thought there'd be no way for Marvel to be able to replace the OG Avengers with new characters like Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch in future phases, but now I can definitely see them being just as popular. Honestly, Iron Man and Captain America, while big parts of the whole story, don't really have any memorable scenes, especially Stark.

While the humour is great, at times I felt it went a little overboard. Ultron was threatening as hell on the battlefield, but behind the scenes, he seemed weak and vulnerable. He seemed to be cracking too many jokes instead of being evil af. I think that's what they were going for though, as it's pointed out throughout the movie that he's scared or has his weak points. He's just very different from what I saw in the trailers, which was a menacing, indestructible monster.

I can definitely see the cracks in the relationship between Stark and Cap, and there's one full-on Civil War scene. They don't feel forced, but you can actually see the reasons why these guys don't agree with each other, and I already can't wait for it. I feel they could start it right now.

I have so much more to say, but I'll just leave it here. All in all, I thought it was one of the best MCU films yet, rightfully so. I don't like straight-up comparing them, but right now, I feel it can hold its own with any other.

Review:

Best way to describe Age of Ultron: it's a comic book movie, but also more of a "movie comic book".

Think about what that literally means for a second...

The pacing is fast like flipping through pages and panels of a comic book. The dialogues are straight and witty (although I'm not a fan of Joss Whedon's dialogue), and the action jumps at you like a comic book panel! It's not for everyone especially because it's fast, even gives Fast & Furious a run for it's money fast with so much going on, but if you can keep up, what a ride!

It is very different from the first Avengers. This sequel is not a feel good movie spending more time on building up characters for the final 30 minute action payoff. Instead, Age of Ultron goes on a tangent and leaves behind the unnecessary character build-up in the first film, and goes right into it's grimmer but more action packed story for 2 and a half hours.

And even though there's a lot of action, it doesn't get static and busy like the Transformers film do; the action scenes here are huge but also iconic. There's only a few films with action scenes that are so iconic they make you go *Holy (bleep)* like:

http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140519094522/character-power/ru/images/6/62/%D0%A5%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%BA_-_%D0%A2%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BD%D1%81%D1%84%D0%BE%D1%80% D0%BC%D0%B0%D1%86%D0%B8%D1%8F.gif.

Age of Ultron has like 5-6 of 'em, there's one already just in the opening 5 minutes.

What I like the most is that they are heroes saving people, this was something I miss seeing back in the Raimi Spider-Man and classic Christopher Reeve Superman films. Superhero movies need more of those, not lose them.

Things I'm not a fan of? Could've been 10-15 mins longer to explain some back story (more on that later), even though it's darker, they still throw in a good portion of jokes, I'm just not a fan of Joss Whedon at all - his writing, his dialog, and his ongoing fascination to keep *SPOILER* killing off characters he directs; the death really irked me a lot that I got really angry at the film. The redemption kind of softened it, but still... damn you Whedon! Glad the Russo's will be directing the Infinity War.

Speaking of back story, seeing the mid-credit scene in Winter Soldier and/or the last 5 mins of last night's Agents of SHIELD as well helps set-up this film's opening act.

Other than that, and aside from the more somber feel compared to it's more lighter prequel, Age of Ultron was a blast to watch. Whole crowd was all into it and we all had a fun time!

Best way to describe Age of Ultron-5/10.

I watched this last week, on Wednesday. Not sure why it is released so much earlier in Australia... Anyway, it wasn't that good.

Saying that though, it was a lot funnier than the first, and that actually made it somewhat enjoyable. There were a bunch of scenes where I legit laughed out loud. But yeah, in terms of story and just general cohesiveness, it was missing something. Everything seemed so fast paced, furious and desperate in the first one, like a real superhero movie. This one seemed to kind of just go through the paces.

I dunno if it is just that, but it really was missing something.

Language, it was missing Language.

Is it a movie where I have to listen very closely?

I plan to watch it in Hood theater (for free).....and you know black folks talk and make noise all through a movie.

After a few days of thinking, I don't think it's as memorable as Avengers or Iron Man or Winter Soldier, but still a pretty damn good movie.

I think the extended version coming out on DVD/BR will do this film A LOT of justice. It seems that Ultron must have had a lot of time cut and I'll definitely pick it up just for that.

I guess I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed this more than the first one.

Just saw it. I thought it was as good as the first one or maybe even better. Ironman and Hulk's scene was super entertaining. :applause:

Wow didn't think I'd like this movie as much as I am now!

Seeds planted for Civil War and Thor 3, can't wait!

That's what I thought at first. After a few days of thinking over it though, the flaws begin to come out at you. It's a rule for pretty much any movie really.

Still one of my favourite MCU films yet though.

It's always the same movie, a guy attacks, he has an army, they lose at first, then win in the end and the guy either dies or escapes. It's just not interesting anymore.

Thats the plot of almost every action movie. How often is the bad guy not with backup? How often does he not appear tough and unbeatable before the hero figures it out? How often does the hero not win and the bad guy dies or escapes to setup a sequel?

You described damn near every comic style action movie ever other than Watchmen. You knew what it was. The trailer showed Ultron having a gang of copies...you knew he wouldnt actually destroy the world...

What did you go in expecting?

And that's why Civil War and Batman v Superman will be epic. They're changing it up slightly.

It was good. Maybe as good or better than the first.

But there wasn't a wow factor as much. I remember the hype leading into the first Avengers. Seeing everything play out was amazing. Having already seen that this was just a good movie and not an event like that one was.
