Dwight really needs to shut his mouth. LeBron hurt his image with the Decision, but he at least started to win championships and MVPs. Howard was terrible with LA last year despite the hype. The whole Laker fan base turned on him, and most of the country sees him as a bitch.

I think Kareem took it the wrong way with Dwight keep emphasizing Dream and Machale tutoring him as an important reason to go to Huston.

Kareem and Lakers fans still salty. So funny.

i dunno man dwight really wasnt great last year.

i think kareems more insulted at the fact that someone left the lakers in their prime. which has never happend before and is a slap in the face to the best franchise

people grow up dreaming/wishing to play for them. dwight has absolutely no love for the game or knowledge of its history obviously

just another typical big who probably got into basketball because his highschool teacher told him he'd have a future in it cause of how big he is

you can tell dwight is a nerdy guy who would rather play dnd or collect bottle caps as a kid than watch the nba

most real laker fans would rather have 4-5 more years of kobe than a careers worth of dwight.

plus... i could never have looked at dwight as the face of this franchise. i'd rather another wing or pg type player take over for kobe. more fun to watch

Perhaps Dwight is arguing that Kareem's contributions in his last two rings were significantly less than in his first four. I have long maintained that the '87 Lakers would have won a title without KAJ, and clearly the '88 Lakers won a ring DESPITE him (he was awful in that post-season, and even worse in the Finals...including as horrendous a game seven that has ever been played by an all-time great.)

"Dwight is an extraordinary athlete and has incredible athletic ability, but basketball is a game where the most important muscle that you use on the court is the one between your ears," Abdul-Jabbar said on ESPN's "First Take" Thursday

anybody else think its pretty ironic to go on first take, to question someone else's intelligence?

I doubt he has the knowledge or even the IQ (especially the former) to make this his point. I doubt he knows exactly how many rings Kareem had (let alone when he won them, his stats, etc). Wasn't Dwight the one who, like 2 years ago, didn't know who Jack Sikma is?

It's A VC3!!!
10-06-2013, 09:57 AM
I don't understand why every center (ex-laker centers) need to continually attack dwight. dwight is hands down the best center in the nba. he averaged 17/12 battling through an injured shoulder last year. i predict a 20/14/2 season from him next year along with another defense of the year trophy. and kareem is just bitter because dwight asked him to stop telling him what to do and how to do it.

Still going on with the same shit to later prop up Wilt or even Magic :facepalm Please stop.

:wtf:
Of course his contributions weren't as big as before, man was 39 years old, after 2 decades of non-stop pro basketball.

In 1987 Kareem was 39 (!!) and still a big piece of one of the greatest teams ever, in the RS put up 17.5/6.7/2.6/0.6/1.2 on 56.4/71.4. in less than 32 minutes, and 19.2/6.8/2.0/0.4/1.9 on 53.0/79.5, in 31 mpg, in the PS.
Without KAJ they don't win that title, even with an easy way to the Finals (considering their level) and against an injured and banged up Celtics squad (that still took them to 6). Kareem in the Finals put up 21.7/7.3/0.8/0.5/2.5 on 51.0/66.7, in 33.8 mpg.

In 1988, at 40, he still had a good enough contribution considering his age, and stats that plenty of centers would've loved at their best.
That man was 40 years old (and again after 2 decades of basketball, amazing basketball at that), how dumb must you be to expect better than that, to critize him :biggums:

Shit, in 1985, at 37 years old (that's right), he had one of the GOAT Finals, putting up 25.7/9.0/5.2/1.0/1.5 on 60.4/76.9 in 35.5 minutes of play. Lakers would've most likely lost again if it wasn't for him, even going against the Celtics with an injured Bird.

And that 1980 FMVP belong to him, even though I think the 1988 one belongs to Magic.

I wonder who even read and quoted the article... guess I'll do it:

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9772548/dwight-howard-houston-rockets-responds-kareem-abdul-jabbar-criticism

Dwight Howard says he's not a stupid player, despite Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's criticism, and he doesn't know why the legend cares anyway.

"Dwight is an extraordinary athlete and has incredible athletic ability, but basketball is a game where the most important muscle that you use on the court is the one between your ears," Abdul-Jabbar said on ESPN's "First Take" Thursday. "Dwight's basketball IQ is not up to speed for him to be a dominant player."

Howard, who signed with the Rockets this offseason after a disappointing stint with the Lakers, fired back.

"You can't win three Defensive Player of the Year trophies and be stupid. That can't be done," he said, according to the Houston Chronicle. "And I don't think any coach that has ever coached me has said I have a low IQ for basketball.

"Have I done some dumb stuff on the floor? Yes, every player has. Have I done some stupid things in life? Yes, it's life. We make mistakes and learn from them. It is what it is. I think I am very intelligent when it comes to the game of basketball. I have been playing since I was 3 years old. Each year, I get a little smarter.

"People will have something to say. Is what it is. I'm in (Houston) now. This city has my back and we are going to ride together."

Howard is a seven-time All-Star who has averaged 18.3 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in his nine-year career, all but one of the years with Orlando. He's made one appearance in the Finals, losing to the Lakers in 2008-09.

Abdul-Jabbar averaged 24.6 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in a 20-year Hall of Fame career that included six championships. Howard was thought to be the next great Lakers center, but injuries and inconsistency led to Los Angeles losing in the first round of the playoffs.

"When I joined the Lakers I was the greatest center. When I left, I was the worst," Howard said, according to the Chronicle. "Mentally, I wasn't capable of playing center. I understand a lot of things are said out of emotion. I will say if he has anything to say, I am here in Houston. We can talk man to man. That's how I feel."

Howard said he had one conversation with Abdul-Jabbar in Los Angeles and asked that they don't talk about basketball.

"There is no need for me to go back and forth with him," Howard said. "One thing I would say is that he is old enough to where whatever I do shouldn't even matter. He is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. If I'm Kareem, I'm like why? Four championships, five championships, whatever. I've been in Airplane and done movies with Bruce Lee. I am not worried about the young whippersnapper.

"I wish him good luck. People do things different and when I am done playing, I will do what I can to help the younger generations."

So yeah, that's the thread title (or OP's translation) = the bold.

Dwight is gonna be a beast this season. Kareem and the LA fans need to shut up. Don't be bitter because the best center in the NBA a top 3 player in the NBA left LA in his prime. Just be happy the NBA rigged LA to get Gasol and rigged game 7 of the 2010 finals and that WCF game a decade plus ago.
