I better dust off mine.

Gameboy was simple entertainment. Nowadays you have to learn how to play the freaking game.

I am going to buy an Xbox One simply because I like playing Fifa online and the Xbox online experience is better. Any other game I probably won't ever play online, but I like to have the option on a good network. It's also really not that expensive considering it's something I will use all the time for the next 5-10 years until they make a new console.

If you own a solid PC it's getting harder and harder to justify each new system. I mean most of Ps3 games don't even run on 1080p. Like the ****ing stone ages.

thats why i bought a wii-u. I own a ps3 and i'll get a ps4 way down its lifespan but to me nintendo is one of the few companies out there that tries to create new experiences with gaming.

I'll probably pick up a PS4 next year sometime. Maybe when the new UFC game comes out. But I've learned my lesson about getting the launch-time systems. Always full of kinks, always full of bugs. Plus a cooler looking model always comes out a year after the original one

This, you can build a solid pc for a little more than the new ps4 and have a better gaming experience.

This difference between the upcoming generation and the current one seems minor to me as well. At least compared to previous jumps. I already have a blu-ray player with my PS3 so that's no longer a draw. I still have a ton of games for that and have a PC for anything new. I see little reason for me to upgrade as well any time soon.

you know, the last games i got excited about was conflict desert storm 2 and conflict vietnam for the ps2...........these days enemys are eiter robots or zombies, i wonder if they are not allowed to make games anymore were you fight "real" enemies on consoles

no point in playing a game if you don

I'm not getting one until late next year.

The new gens just seem rushed, like I feel like I still have another year or 2 left on my 360.

But going by what OP say why not just stick with the Atari or the regular nintendo.

The games are gonna be the same until we get into that virtual reality stuff were it feels like you're in the game

How these games are becoming, I say we got virtual reality. Have you seen GTA 5?

Basically VR right there.

pfft I've got an arcade cabinet with galaga, pac man, space invaders, pong and the like on it. Who needs a game boy.

In all seriousness I played the crap out of my gameboy and still fire up some games on emulators today (batteries annoy me in my gameboy which I still have and it still works).

I want Batman: Gotham City sometime but hopefully on the PC. These new consoles should allow that to happen and in general not hold back PC gaming as much when it comes to games that have to be multi-platform.

Not a bad value at $400. It's hard to know how well the custom GPU/CPU combo will perform. I paid more than $400 for my PC's GPU's alone.

I'm sticking with my xbox 360 until late next year, and then I'm going to invest in a souped up gaming PC and a PS4(if there are any worthwhile exclusives by next winter). The next-gen consoles are definitely not worth buying at the moment.

Yes, that's exactly what you're paying for with a ps4. Four hundred for an average GPU so they can sell you 60 dollar games that run in 720p that will be shit in 3 years.

Do you mind giving the specs of your gaming PC and how much you use it?

I have a PS3 myself, bought it back when I was in college. But now I'm working 45+ hours most weeks staring at a laptop for 90% of my day. I'd rather spend my weekday nights playing sports, going to the gym, or going out for drinks then spend the few non-work hours staring at another monitor.

I'll go a few weeks at a time without touching my PS3 or the 10-12 games I own. I probably only buy 2-3 games a year and will play them each for about 2-3 weeks each. At this point I'd rather not buy a PS4 as I'll likely not have the time for gaming.

But I was thinking about buying a nice PC and just keeping it plugged in through HDMI all the time. Use it for mostly gaming and netflix/youtube/league pass, same kind of stuff you'd use a PS4 for. Only difference being that if my personal laptop broke down, I'd have a spare on hand.

Why buy a ps4 or xbox one? I never had a 360 or ps4 but I've played it. This coming black friday, I think i'll buy my 1st console since the nintendo gamecube(Greatest Console ever created). An Xbox 360 sounds nice though. I wouldn't mind playing halo 3 and 4 since the last halo I've ever played was halo 2.

I've had it for awhile, but these are ~ the prices I remember paying at the time.

I run SLI GeForce GTX 570's ($350 each). Intel i5 2500k 3.4 Ghz ($250). Seasonic 850w PSU 80 Plus Gold Modular ($150). G-Skill 8GB Ripjaw RAM ($75). Cooler Master Storm Sniper Case ($125). Gigabye Z68 Mobo ($150). Some other stuff.

You got a $1100 PC yet you have never had the privilege to play Gran Turismo, sucks to be an only PC gamer. To those who say it's better to keep a PC and keep away from consoles, I gotta say I have been keeping both since I can remember and my PC has always cost me much more than my consoles.

Thanks, repped.

I've never used Steam before, but the majority of their games seem low-end indie-type games. I know they have some sort of Bioshock deal on their site right now, but there's also tons of random games I've never heard of, and they've got FF7 as one of their best sellers. To me, it feels underwhelming to drop more cash for a gaming PC than a PS4/Xbox and buy non big hit games so I'll probably end up staying away from Steam other than buying the on-sale big titles.

The thing I'm afraid of is over-using Steam and then buying a bunch of mindless games like I'll sometimes do for my tablet/phone and realize I've wasted $30 on 10 games I've played once or twice.

well for certain games I believe yes like BF4 will finally have the 32v32 on the console as compared to the 12vs 12 before, also most games will now run on 1080p , I to might hold of buying a ps4 maybe 1-2 years, I still have a lot of backlogged games to play.

1080 ?......... the future is 4k, and "The PS4 will be enabled for 4K resolution, but it will not have the capability to display games in 4K.

In the same interview where Yoshida revealed more about the PS4's 3D capabilities he also stated:

"The PS4 supports 4K output, but only for photos and videos; not games. PS4 games do not work on 4K."

If you're a gamer and you only game on pc, you're going to miss out on alot.
Most jrpg
Tekken 6/tag
Red Dead Redemption
GTA 5
Dark souls
FightNight
UFC
Ninja Gaiden
Marvel vs Capcom
Vanquish
etc

And then you have the platform exclusives
like the Last of Us, Uncharted, etc for ps3
and Halo, etc for the 360

dont quote me on it but I believe the reason they had to tone down the console was they had to match the xbox 360 hardware which was limited, I believe Ps3 could do the 64player but it had to be matched with the 360's hardware.

dannywpt
10-09-2013, 10:57 AM
Both the PS3 and Xbox are very similar in performance. There's absolutely no way they had to limit it to 12v12 with the Xbox and could have done 32v32 on the PS3. MAYBE the PS3 performed slightly better and theoretically could have been pushed to 16v16. 32v32? No way

If the next generation can play titles like BF4 in native 720p at 60fps with 64 players, it's like day and night compared to the PS3/Xbox generation. Should be a thousand times better for console gamers.
