In all seriousness, hes a fantastic player, who'd probably be of Manu Ginobili like quality in a league like the NBA.

14.7 ppg is basically 15 ppg, you do realize that right?

With that said, he would be a bench player in the league. Which he was, and even then probably wouldn't be good enough to earn a lot of playing time.

Look what Anthony Parker did in the league. He was like the best player overseas and he was an average at best starting SG in the NBA for just like 3 seasons. Not much longevity.

To the claim that he'd be Manu Ginobili like quality is absurd. If Manu spent the majority of his time in another league, not named the NBA ... he'd look like the Mike Jordan of that basketball league.

What makes Manu great is his ability to cut down the ego crap and do what his coach tells him to. He was dropping 16/4/3 in Euroleague, went to SA and had a sub par rookie year. Not that great at all. But he stayed, adapted and won titles. How did Spanoulis handle his NBA stint?

Not saying he isn't a good player, of course he is. But it's kind of his own fault he never made it in the NBA. A lot of players struggle in the beginning. Spanoulis could've been a great 6th man if he wasn't so full of himself.

Completely agree.

I still think a slightly worse version of Manu is where hes at. I don't see how this is laughable like some posters are saying. Then again its Andrew Wiggins, the poster, who has proven to be a plethora of absolute nothing when it comes to knowledge about any sport.

Don't know if Manu is the best comparison, he just seems a bit more versatile than V-Span to me, and better suited to create shots for himself. The best case scenario for Spanoulis would've been to pair him with a skilled face up big man who knows how to run the roll/fade game. Give him someone like Dirk/Bosh/Gasol, and he would've been a good NBA PG. But I wouldn't want him to create offense for himself. In the right system though, he could've been very good.

Not to mention, honestly, that Ginobili is a more gifted player anyway .

I might get crucified for saying this, but I see Ginobili as one of the most talented swingmen of all time... a true basketball genius. There's a reason Popovich thinks so highly of him. He is, in a way, the closest thing to a 'European' Jordan (yes, I realize that he's Argentinian, but he played in Europe and has Italian nationality): a charismatic, electrifying 6'6 SG with insane fundamentals combined with a tendency to pull off the most amazing plays on a routine basis and a real killer instinct.

If he'd gotten his own team, like Harden, he would've produced just as well (though injuries would've stopped him, so he might have ended like a Brandon Roy).

Spanoulis is not as 'special'/unique as Ginobili. He's just another scoring point guard. Talented, sure. But not exceptional.

lmao go bandwagon more top teams

spanoulis a turnover prone combo guard and manu is a 6'6" swingman who is so much more gifted that it isn't even funny

anyone who makes that comparison with a straight face either hasnt seen him play or is completely clueless about the game

Now, seriously, i know that V-Span is a good euro player, but i just dont understand how can you win an MVP trophy while shooting .397 FG% with 15 ppg...

His shooting % were really terrible this year: .397 in Euroleague and .394 in Greek League

:facepalm :facepalm

Dr.J4ever

I don't know. I've really changed my mind about him. I used to think Vspan could have been a decent PG, even starter in the NBA. I don't think so anymore. His game is just not suited to the NBA because he likes to do what PG's like Drose like to do, but with far less athleticism. Proof of this is his high turnover average as compared to assists.

I've seen him enough times now in the eurobasket and a little bit in the euroleague, and in 1 game I saw in the EL, he had like 5 or 6 turnovers by the half. He was penetrating and scoring all right, but his moves to the lane might not work too well in the NBA.

The results speak for themselves really. When Vspan was made leader of the greek NT, this is when Greece declined as a basketball power. Losing a disaster to Nigeria and now, not even making it to knockout rounds in the eurobasket.

Am I a racist psychopath for believing this?

Because these MVP awards are a popularity contest. If you saw the Euroleague finals you would see that with CCKA when Spanoulis sat his low iq ass in the bench Olympiakos made the comeback. In a way he was the reason they made the comeback.Because if he didn t go to the bench and kept playing they would lose for sure :lol Check the stats and you ll see he was minus if i remember correctly in the +/- category
Acie Law,Heinze and Papanikolaou were the reasons why Olympiakos won
With Real he played awful almost all game long but had some stretches where he would be lucky enough to score some 3pointers
If you don t believe me feel free to watch the games

I agree with this. Manu had the defense as well, his blocks on durant and KG are amazing.

Vspan's nemesis is david stern. Stern knows vspans brilliance could change the world as we know it. So he conspires w fiba, jvg, referees, and even greek league officials who made sure he lost a 5 game series last year in the finals. All of you should should be reported to the moderators for mocking vspan.

Well its the weak Euroleague, what else do you expect? A top Euroleague team is just about as good as a NDBL team, a good Euroleague team is no better than NCAA Div I team, while an average Euroleague team gets blown out by NCAA Div II team.
:lol
